Happy Weekend!

Happy Halloween weekend everyone! Today is the annual Halloween parade at Sophie’s daycare – and if you haven’t ever seen dozens of babies and toddlers in full costume all in the same place, well, it’s pretty much the cutest thing ever. This year, Sophie will be rocking a homemade costume of sorts: she’ll be a snail, which is just about the extent of my limits with a newborn at home. We don’t get many trick-or-treaters on our street, so we’ll be hanging out with friends and their adorable daughter tonight to help them pass out candy. Best of both worlds! But in the meantime…

DIY Tutorial: Vintage Map Save the Dates

As wedding season winds down, all of us here in wedding land are getting ready for engagement season! The first thing that comes to mind with an engagements is planning the save the dates. Save the dates are the first chance you get to show your guests what they get to look forward to on your big day. So whether you DIY it or find a designer to work with, make sure it represents you, your partner, and your theme! – Lauren

I love the idea of using vintage maps for a destination wedding. It could work for couples that love to travel – or are just incorporating the idea as inspiration for their wedding decor. Here are the simple steps to creating your own map save the dates!

Materials

Maps – vintage, reproduction, or current (these are from etsy)

Paint brush

Acrylic paint in your color of choice

Pencil

Envelope and stamps

Step 1. Start by tracing and planning where you want all of your text to lay on the map. If you do it lightly with pencil you can paint over and you won’t have to do any erasing.

Step 2. Go in with your paint brush and make your first pass over the pencil.

Step 3. Add 2-3 more coats over the letters so that they are opaque and legible against the map lines and type.

Step 4. Fold and fill all of your envelopes. I love these string & button envelopes. They are a little more interesting than your standard envelope.

Step 5. Address and send off to your friends and family.

This idea would be especially great for a destination wedding as you will probably have a smaller guest count and hand painting would be much more manageable. Finding maps for the state or country you will be married in would make them even more memorable.

I know we’ve received a few save the dates that were put away in a drawer after we marked the date on the calendar. These poster-style vintage map save the dates would be a fun work of art for your guests to enjoy and definitely wouldn’t be hidden!

Have you ever considered hand painting pieces like this for your wedding?

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! I’m going to be honest – we’ve had a rough week over here. Sophie is going through some typical two year old tantrums (we’ve started referring to her as our “twonager” since it’s a nice little preview of what she’ll be like as a teenager), and when you combine that with a needy newborn you get two very tired parents. I know this is just a phase, but I feel like I could sleep for about a week straight if given the opportunity! For now I’ll just settle for (hopefully) a few extra minutes this weekend, but in the meantime…

Mary + Kosta’s Luggage Tag Save the Dates

Luggage tag save the dates for a destination wedding in Greece? Simple idea, and 100% effective! Melissa from Atheneum Creative incorporated an elegant silver monogram on real luggage tags, then put the entire save the date together in pool blue mailer boxes with a liner showing a map of Greece!

From Melissa: Mary and Kosta are getting married in Greece and wanted to set the tone for their destination wedding with a luggage tag. We printed real luggage tags with a custom monogram and created an insert with the wedding details.

The luggage tag save the dates were mailed in a pool blue box with the inside cover showing a map of the wedding location. A simple design, a simple save the date, but it definitely left a great first impression with the guests who will be traveling to attend the wedding!

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! Thankfully this week was easier than last week; Sophie is feeling much better, which definitely makes for a happier household overall. I’ve been keeping very busy with behind-the-scenes preparations for my upcoming annual Paper Party during the National Stationery Show – the invitations have been printed and we’re busy getting ready to mail them out to retailers and friends! I can’t wait to share them with you here, but for now you can see a teeny tiny sneak peek right here. And in the meantime…
