Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! So, apparently I’m a wee bit crazy, because I decided that the last couple of weeks before Christmas was just the perfect time to completely gut and renovate the only full bathroom in our house. Ha! Actually, our contractor just happened to have an opening in his schedule (we’d been on the waiting list for 5 months), so I decided to just go for it. I’ve absolutely loathed our bathroom from the very first time we ever looked at our house, so I’m super excited to see it go – even if our house is a complete disaster zone at the moment. Our contractor is doing all the demo and pre-tile prep work for us, but we’re planning to do all the tiling. So my Dad is down from New Jersey this weekend to help with everything – wish us luck! I’ll be sharing the final results here in January and I can’t wait! But in the meantime…

Indigo Watercolor and Gold Foil Wedding Invitations

Woah! I’m absolutely loving the vibrant indigo watercolor on these wedding invitations from Alex of Goodheart Design! I’m used to seeing pale watercolor washes on wedding invitations and save the dates, and this deep indigo is so pretty paired with the shiny gold foil and Alex’s signature hand lettering! And each piece was individually hand painted, so no two are alike!

From Alex: Alisha and Spencer are a super fun couple recently married in Los Angeles. Alisha has been a close friend (even roommate!) for a while now, so it was even more exciting getting to work on this invitation with a friend! Not only did the wedding have a modern/vintage/boho style, but the wedding venue was super eclectic and homey. They got married at Big Daddy’s Antique Shop in Los Angeles and the venue was filled with amazing one of kind pieces from old school neon signs to vintage tables and mismatched designer chairs.

The wedding had a very easy going neutral vibe going on. Alisha and Spencer wanted to portray that vibe through their invitations, along with some bold indigo watercolor, which was sprinkled throughout the wedding as well. The invitations feature hand lettering mixed with modern text and hand painted watercolor. They had everyone RSVP online, so we made a fun extra piece explaining how to do that. The main invitations were printed in gold foil and the extra piece was letterpress printed, both by Czar Press.

We had the main invitation printed on 220# paper so that the paper wouldn’t warp when the watercolor was added after printing. I hand watercolored each invitation with indigo watercolor, giving each invitation it’s own unique style.

Elegant Dip Dyed Pink and Gold Wedding Invitations

Pink and gold. It’s just such a great combination. Gold looks great with just about anything, but especially with the gorgeous shade of petal pink used in these invitations from Allie Ruth Bridal. Allie created these elegant dip dyed pink and gold wedding invitations for a summer wedding in Texas, with plenty of cactus and succulent illustrations included throughout the wedding stationery. In addition to the gorgeous wedding invitations, Allie also shared some of the day-of details from this beautiful wedding!

From Allie: Catye and Trey’s wedding was absolutely stunning, with florals that would make anyone swoon. Each card of the invitation suite was dip-dyed in graduated shades of pink from the small info card to the main invitation. The package was tied with natural twine and a hand-stamped custom monogram. The suite came together with an illustrated succulent motif, which found its way into the day-of wedding details, as well!

The pocket envelopes were show-stopping. Each one got letterpress printed on the back in matte gold with my full succulent illustration, and then I hand-painted the watercolor to fill in each one. They were lined with a matte gold-printed illustrated pattern. I then addressed them all and affixed Texas inspired vintage postage and finished them off with a band of pink masking tape and a custom-designed “mailed with love” sticker, with their return address stamped on the back.

The day-of design was so much fun. All of their food—menu, desserts and cocktails sounded amazing, so my mouth was totally watering as I was calligraphing the cards and created the stamp that you see on those pretty pink napkins. I dip-dyed all of the escort cards to match the invitation suite, and even designed large program and welcome signs for the ceremony.

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! And guess what? Today my husband and I are celebrating the ten year anniversary of our very first date! Ten years! We’ve been through grad school together, major career developments and changes, several cat adoptions and rescues, not to mention a wedding and two kids. It’s been a wild and crazy first ten years, but I’m so excited for the next ten and beyond. But in the meantime…

DIY Watercolor Paper Snowflake Gift Toppers

We’ve been playing “Jingle-Bells” since the moment the weather turned chilly here in London. It is, after all, the most wonderful time of the year! With under three weeks to go until Christmas Day, I wanted to share an easy gift wrap idea that you can make with things you can find at home. These snowflakes are – like the real ones – unique and personal in every way. They only take 5 minutes but look amazing! - Erin from BerinMade Paper Goods

Supplies

Copier paper (1 sheet makes two small ones)

Flat brush

Stapler

PVA glue

Blue watercolor paint or acrylic paint

Sharp scissors

Step 1. Dilute your paint with water in a plastic container. Dip your brush into the paint, then tap the brush so that the brush is slightly wet but not dripping. Stroke lightly over the paper to make faint, painted lines. Paint over the entire piece of paper. If you’re making more than one gift topper you can also paint multiple sheets at the same time.

Step 2. Cut the paper in half length-wise, and fold into a 12-part accordion, and trim the ends into points. Staple the center of the accordion, then cut a combination of straight and curvy lines into the folded accordion. Get creative with your snowflake designs by experimenting with different sizes and shapes for the cutouts.

Step 3. Fold the accordion in half and gently open it up like a fan, carefully separating the snowflake tips. Secure the ends with glue or double-sided tape.

Step 4. Use mounting squares or double-sided tape to adhere the gift topper to your present!
