Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! And yay for long weekends! Do you all have anything fun planned for President’s Day weekend? It’s supposed to be bitterly cold here this weekend, so I’m trying to come up with new fun indoor things to do to entertain my girls. Museums are usually our go-to solution for hot summer and cold winter days – and the U.S. Botanic Garden is perfect for a dose of greenery in the middle of winter. But in the meantime…

DIY Googly Eye Classroom Valentines

Okay, so this officially qualifies as last minute – but hey, as a busy mom, pretty much EVERYTHING I do is last minute. Luckily there’s a printable in this post and these Valentines take all of 10 minutes from start to finish, which makes them the perfect solution for busy moms everywhere. I made these DIY googly eye classroom Valentines with my 3 year-old in mind. She can’t yet read the words and she definitely doesn’t understand puns yet, but googly eyes? Every toddler can get behind googly eyes! We’ll be pairing our Valentines with cute temporary tattoos (another toddler favorite), but you could easily staple these to a gift bag full of Valentine’s Day candy or punch a hole in the top and use them as oversized gift tags!

So here’s the thing about preschoolers: even though they’re only just now learning how to write and read, they LOVE writing letters to each other. At my daughter’s preschool, each child has their own little mailbox where they can leave each other notes, and I’m constantly delivering envelopes to the teachers because the kids “write” so many letters to each other. It’s just the cutest thing ever. Our school is having a Valentine’s Day social tomorrow morning and I can’t wait to see these tiny humans all exchange Valentine’s Day cards with each other!

To make the googly eye classroom Valentines:

Step 1. Download the free printable here and print onto any color card stock. I can’t resist an opportunity to use my Heidi Swapp Minc foil applicator, so I turned mine into gold foil Valentines – but they also look super cute in black and white! Trim the cards down to size using scissors or a paper cutter.

Step 2. Apply a small dot of school glue to the back of a pair of googly eyes (mine are from Michaels) and place them on the card – or let your toddler do it! Allow to dry. If you don’t have googly eyes on hand, try drawing a pair of eyeballs instead! Write the name of each recipient at the bottom, along with your child’s name, then adhere to a Valentine’s Day treat of your choice.

I’m also planning to print a bunch of these for my 1 year-old’s daycare class. Googly eyes! The perfect solution for tiny humans of all ages. Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

Seasonal Stationery: Valentine’s Day Cards, Part 1

I tend to view Valentine’s Day as less of a romantic occasion and more as a general celebration of love all around. Besties, family members, kids, and even work colleagues are all just as deserving of a Valentine’s Day card as spouses, partners, boyfriends, and girlfriends. Because we can always use a little bit more love, right? I have a few friends that actually send annual Valentine’s Day cards instead of holiday cards and I love that idea SO much! It’s a wonderful bright spot in post-holidays winter dreariness to find a cheerful Valentine’s Day card in my mailbox. Here are a few of my favorite Valentine’s Day Cards this year!

Best of 2015: Babies + Kids

Oh So Beautiful Paper: The Best of 2015 / Calligraphy by Cast Calligraphy

Nothing makes me happier than a beautiful baby announcement or colorful birthday party invitation. It’s hard to resist anything that involves an adorable photo of a newborn baby, and birthday party invitations can be so much fun – especially in those first few years when you can really do whatever you want! Ha! Baby announcements and birthday party invitations are a fabulous opportunity to create beautiful stationery (but without the added pressure that can come with creating a wedding invitation). My favorite baby announcements and birthday party invitations are those that manage to be whimsical, sophisticated, and kid-appropriate all at the same time while somehow not being overly cutesy. Some favorites from the year include a simple and modern hand lettered birth announcement, woodland critter birthday party invitations, gold foil polka dot baby announcements, watercolor popsicle birthday party invitations, and some SUPER fun invitations for a 5th birthday party!

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! So, apparently I’m a wee bit crazy, because I decided that the last couple of weeks before Christmas was just the perfect time to completely gut and renovate the only full bathroom in our house. Ha! Actually, our contractor just happened to have an opening in his schedule (we’d been on the waiting list for 5 months), so I decided to just go for it. I’ve absolutely loathed our bathroom from the very first time we ever looked at our house, so I’m super excited to see it go – even if our house is a complete disaster zone at the moment. Our contractor is doing all the demo and pre-tile prep work for us, but we’re planning to do all the tiling. So my Dad is down from New Jersey this weekend to help with everything – wish us luck! I’ll be sharing the final results here in January and I can’t wait! But in the meantime…
