{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone! Our house is currently recovering from the cold from hell, so it has been one. rough. week. Sophie and Andrew got sick first, then it was my turn a few days later. Oh, and OF COURSE this would be the week that Sophie got her newest tooth! Way to pile it on, nature. There’s nothing worse than a sick and sad baby, so I’ll definitely be happy once we’re all back to full strength! But in the meantime…

Folk Art-Inspired Birth Announcements

How adorable are these folk art-inspired birth announcements from Jackie of 42 Pressed? Jackie designed a beautiful floral border that combines folk art and nature-inspired influences, all letterpress printed in complementing shades of green and blue. The new parents also included a kraft paper tag with a quick life update for family and friends. Such a great idea!

From Jackie: Designing a custom baby announcement is definitely one of my favorite things because it’s so personal. When a designer can hit it right for their client, and their aesthetics seem to match, the result is normally pretty incredible. The mother really wanted something that had a folk-woodsy-flora feel to announce her daughter without it being overtly feminine. She wanted there to be a balance of soft and feminine while still remaining very natural and woodsy.

I always really like to design for overprinting when something is going to be letterpress printed; I think it adds great depth and a little pop of color without it being too much. We chose an olive green color and a soft blue, which enabled us to print the olive green over the soft blue without the colors competing with each other. We also printed a kraft tag that was designed to be sent along with the baby announcement, as a sort of “update” on what has been going on in their busy lives recently. That tag needed to be simple and clean to compliment the announcement. All pieces were designed and letterpress printed in house.

Jett’s Little Newsboy Birth Announcements

Okay, so these little newsboy birth announcements from Suzanne of SHE Paperie are pretty much the cutest thing ever! The headline format provides the perfect spot for baby Jett’s adorable newborn photograph, while all the important details are enclosed in the “article” text below. Beautiful letterpress printing on super-thick gray paper and newspaper envelope liners complete the design!

From Suzanne: The vision for this custom birth announcement was all about newspaper! Before her baby arrived, my client found a tiny newsboy cap for him to wear during his newborn photo session with with Natalie Ann Photography. I collected newspapers from the actual day of the baby’s birth and used them to line the inside of each envelope. We also used a stack of the same newspapers for the baby to lay on during his newborn session.

The featured photo was digitally printed then mounted onto 333 lb. Gmund gray cotton paper stock. The beautiful letterpress work was done by Somersault Letterpress. Together, the creative verbiage, luxe cotton paper, and special envelope liners created the perfect touch to what what I’d imagined this birth announcement to be. Announcing baby Jett’s arrival to the world was truly a newsworthy event!

Theo’s Mini Flip Book First Birthday Party Invitations

Happy September everyone! I hope you had a nice holiday weekend! I take such delight in watching my friends grow their families, and my friend Lisa from Good on Paper has two of the most adorable little boys. Her younger son, Theo, is just a month older than Sophie! For Theo’s first birthday party invitations, Lisa created an adorable mini flip book full of cute photos of a happy and smiling Theo. Such a great idea!

From Lisa: Plans for Theo’s 1st birthday party came together rather quickly. A super mellow second child, Theo did not seem to mind at all. In fact, he is smiley and happy about 85% of the time so I decided to make “smiles and saying cheese” the theme of his party. I took a bunch of photos one day while he was eating (his favorite thing to do) and turned them into a mini flip book. They were mailed out in gray envelopes with custom liners.

{happy weekend!}

Happy August everyone! July flew by especially fast thanks to our trip to California and I’m having a hard time accepting that we’re more than halfway through summer! Luckily, August is my favorite month in DC – the college students are all back home and Congress is on recess, making the next few weeks the perfect time to go to museums, the zoo, or snag a table at a popular restaurant. I’m looking forward to making the most of these last few weeks of summer. But in the meantime…
