2018 Gift Guide: Handmade Gifts

For today’s final gift guide installment, we’re focusing on handmade gifts from small business makers. Supporting small businesses has been important to me since day one of this blog, and while I might turn to big box stores for things like vacuum cleaners and kid toys I always feel like the most special gifts come from artists producing beautiful handmade products. We’ve got plenty of ceramics, some hand painted leather goods, woven art, and some of my favorite jewelry. So many great options!

2018 Gift Guide: Handmade Gifts

1. I let out an audible gasp when I first saw these necklaces from Rare Bird Designs. So beautiful!

2. I could easily spend all of my money in Lillian Faraj’s gorgeous shop. I have one of these hand painted leather clutches (and it has already become one of my favorite possessions), but I desperately want one of the marbled circle purses. Aaaah!

3. I stumbled upon a pair of gorgeous Alchemilla Jewelry earrings at a cool store here in DC, and now I’m obsessed! Each earring is individually beaded completely by hand. It’s honestly wearable art and I love it.

p.s. I’m definitely feeling jewelry vibes this year. Check out more of my favorites from Four Eyes ceramics and Tidy Clutterings. I want all of them!

4. Did you know that each and every product at Moglea is individually hand painted? Yep. From notebook covers to greeting cards, they’re all painted by hand – making this jotter notebook a truly special holiday gift. I’m loving the colors on this one!

5. I’m absolutely smitten with the fiber artwork from Mandi Smethells. The rainbows are just so cute and clever! I can’t wait to save up and purchase my own piece some day!

6. Completely obsessed with these tassel earrings from Wkndla

7. These ceramic desert bells by West Perro are just so cool – like sculptural, interactive art.

8. If you know someone who drinks coffee every day, I can guarantee they’d love to receive a handmade pour-over coffee set. I’m completely obsessed with this coffee set from Jars of Dust, and this speckled set from The Lulu Bird is also lots of fun!

9. I love these hand painted ceramic rainbows – wouldn’t it be so perfect in a nursery? Comes in a range of colors, each with adorable tassels at the bottom!

10. These color-blocked macramé plant hangers are so cool for any friends or family with a green thumb.

p.s. Love macramé but not plant inclined? Check out the gorgeous macramé wall hangings from Noma Macramé!

11. This inspirational quote card set from In the Daylight is the perfect gift for someone working hard to make their side hustle into a full-time gig. The set includes twelve inspirational hand lettered quotes to help brighten any day.

2018 Gift Guide: Gift Ideas for Kids

If you’re on the hunt for creative gift ideas for kids, this guide is for you! We try to focus on having a smaller number of toys that the kids truly love and play with all the time, instead of a tons of toys that the kids ignore or only play with for a few minutes before moving on. Today I’m excited to share a few of our tried-and-true favorites in a range of prices! Since I have two girls, this guide is a bit more geared towards girls – although boys also love building toys, play kitchens, and STEM activities, so there is plenty in here for all kids. I hope you find something helpful below!

2018 Gift Guide for Kids

1. Magnatiles will always have a spot on my gift guide for kids. It’s the only toy that my kids consistently play with for hours – and play with together! – and it’s fun to add to our collection each year.

2. These adorable t-shirts from Jean & June are more of a gift for the parents, but as a mom of daughters I just couldn’t resist! I picked up a set of matching shirts for me and my girls and love them so much!

3. These notebooks from Wee Gallery are absolutely GENIUS – and the perfect stocking stuffer for kids that love to draw!

4. As much as we love our Magnatiles, I’ve always wanted to invest in a beautiful set of classic wood blocks. This castle wood block set is surprisingly affordable, and my girls will love that it looks like a castle!

5. This photo printer would be a great gift for teens or tweens. Our 13 year-old niece has started doing little styled photo sessions with her friends and taking really artsy photos with her phone, and it would be fun for her to be able to print out her favorites!

6. For any STEM-inclined kids, this crystal growing kit looks very cool. And you can even use it as a night light once all the crystals are fully grown!

7. Gathre makes the most beautiful modern leather goods for kids, from changing pads to floor cushions. These modern playmats are perfect for smaller kids, and you can even take them out to the park or the beach!

8. Wood transformers! This toy folds into a variety of different configurations, from robot to vehicle. So cool!

9. Love these sun printing kits! So great for artistically-inclined kids.

10. I’m not sure I was mentally prepared for Caboodles to come back, but here they are! Perfect for holding a variety of little treasures for girls of all ages.

11. You can’t go wrong with a cute purse! I love this glittery heart-shaped bag and this iridescent gold bucket bag

12. One of our local indoor play spaces has this amazing architecture play set and Sophie absolutely LOVES playing with it, so I’m thinking about getting one to have at home. Great for kids over 5!

13. Dolls are the perfect gift for babies and younger toddlers. These dolls from Cuddle & Kind are ridiculously adorable, and each doll provides 10 meals to children in North America and around the world.

14. The dreamiest play kitchen I’ve EVER SEEN – all completely non toxic and made from sustainable wood. It’s really quite the showstopper.

2018 Gift Guide: Cocktails + Entertaining

Today’s gift guide is all about entertaining! It’s no secret that we love gatherings around here, from Friendsgiving to small cocktail parties. We know how difficult it can be to find the perfect gift for someone who loves to entertain and make cocktails at home, so we’ve got your back with today’s gift guide. We rounded up a few of the things that we love using for making cocktails or entertaining at home – including a couple things that are on our own wish lists! You can also find some fantastic ideas on our gift guide from 2017 and 2016!

2018 Gift Guide: Cocktails + Entertaining

1 – The prettiest cheese board I’ve ever seen – just look at that mother of pearl inlay! This wood, marble, and brass board is another great option, and I also love this ceramic slab with gold splatters from the Suite One Studio x Food52 collaboration.

2 – Two spirits that make wonderful gifts: this single-village Mezcal from Del Maguey (it’s sort of like the equivalent of a single malt scotch for Mezcal drinkers – if you live in a city you can also probably find it on Drizly) and Riptide Whiskey from Cali Distillery.

3 – The cutest little cheese picks to go with your board!

4 – This infusion kit looks like a fun gift for a cocktail enthusiast! There are a few versions for different spirits, but each one comes with a bottle with a built-in strainer and a variety of infusing ingredients for making your own custom infusion!

5 – A ceramic french butter keeper is a wonderful luxury for anyone that entertains – or just enjoys soft butter on a fresh baguette. I bought this french butter keeper a little over a year ago, and it has basically changed my life. Plus, they look beautiful out on the dinner table during gatherings!

6 + 7 – A couple of fantastic recent cocktail books, including this amazing book from The Aviary – an innovative bar in New York City â€“ and Cocktail Codex, the most recent book from the folks behind Death & Co. The Aviary book is so beautiful it can even sit out as a coffee table book!

8 – Linen napkins are the perfect addition to any table, so if you know someone who loves to set a beautiful table and doesn’t already have a set – a beautiful set of colorful linen napkins is basically like gold. I’m loving the color options for these linen napkins!

9 – This atomizer is a fun toy for cocktail enthusiasts. It turns any liquid into a fine spray!

10 – Know someone who loves wine? Get them a beautiful way to display their favorite bottles at home! Loving the sculptural quality of this brass wine rack.

11 – I’ve had this french market tote on my own wish list for the longest time. Perfect for anyone that makes regular trips to the farmer’s market!
