Best of 2014: Wedding Invitations, Part 1

It’s time to kick off my annual “best of” round up with some of my favorite posts from our regular columns – starting with wedding invitations! We had so many great wedding invitation submissions this year that I decided to split things up into two separate posts. Here are a few favorites from the first half of the year!

Hi everyone! Hopefully wherever you are in the midst of this busy holiday season you are taking a break from all of the hustle and bustle to relax and enjoy yourselves. Around here at Urbanic things are quite lively, and as we approach the year’s end we are feeling celebratory about what is – and what’s to come. We’ve rounded up some favorite bubbly things from around the shop and beyond that we think are bottle popping goodness. Cheers!  â€“Audrey

The Laughing Monk

A certain baby kept us away from our regular Friday Happy Hour column last week. But we didn’t want to leave you hanging right before the Christmas break, so here’s a delicious cocktail with one of our favorites – St-Germain – that is guaranteed to be a hit at your holiday table. – Andrew

The Laughing Monk

2 oz Old Tom Gin (we like Hayman’s – but you can also use dry gin if you don’t have Old Tom Gin on hand)
1 oz St-Germain
1 oz Lemon Juice
1/4 oz Ginger Liqueur (like Domaine de Canton)
1 dash Green Chartreuse

Add the Chartreuse to a cocktail glass and swirl to coat, then discard the rest. Combine the gin, St-Germain, lemon, and ginger liqueur and shake well with ice. Strain into the Chartreuse-rinsed glass and garnish with a bay leaf. Enjoy!

This is a fun pick-me-up drink, bright and clean and crisp like a winter day. There’s a lot going on in this drink: lots of botanicals with a hint of herbal sharpness from the Chartreuse and a subtle savoriness from the bay leaf. (Which I originally added as a lark, looking for an interesting garnish, but I liked it so much that I’m working on some other recipes that can use it too).

We first featured this drink over on my Instagram feed, which has become something of a test kitchen for our happy hour posts. Go check it out for more fun experiments!

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! Our little Alice celebrated her quarter birthday earlier this week. I can’t believe she’s already three months old! She’s smiling up a storm and generally the happiest and most chill baby we could have asked for – unless her gums (hello early teething!) or tummy are bothering her. And then she definitely lets you know that she’s not happy! We’ve had a few more of those nights than I would have liked this week, so I’m looking forward to a quiet weekend and a short week next week before we all head out for the holidays. But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

No cocktail this week, sadly, due to a certain unusually fussy 3 month-old – but we hope to have a pre-holiday cocktail for you early next week! Have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday! xoxo

Lisa + Paul’s Gold New Year’s Eve Wedding Invitations

With 2015 just a couple of weeks away (!!), I couldn’t resist sharing these sparkly gold New Year’s Eve wedding invitations from Courtney Callahan Paper. Courtney paired gold foil and calligraphy with clock and confetti-inspired details – the perfect mix for a New Year’s Eve wedding!

From Courtney: Since Lisa and Paul’s New Year’s Eve wedding will take place at Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago, their wedding invitation had to be equally luxurious. Each piece of the invitation is printed on Crane’s Pearl White Lettra stock and features gold foil and custom calligraphy.

To tie in the “festive” part of their wedding, the inner envelope was lined in gold glitter and the entire suite was tied together with a gold glitter belly band and tag featuring the couple’s names, wedding date, and a clock at the stroke of midnight – which was also featured on a custom stamp. Guests also noted if they would be “ringing in the new year together” or “toasting from afar.”
