DIY Tutorial: Red and Gold Heart Save the Dates

We’ve definitely been in the Valentine’s Day spirit over the past few weeks! We’ve been busy sending out cards and decorating our studios with hearts and shades of pink and red. We just love the way that all of the shades of red, magenta, and purple played together and thought that they would make a stunning save the date design. Our tutorial today incorporates tonal papers, a touch of gold and a love theme for a beautiful but not over the top cutesy design – perfect for any time of year! –Bailey and Emma of Antiquaria

Step One: To start, you will emboss the save the date card (we used our Floral Calligraphy Save the Date stamp) in gold.  Simply stamp your save the date design in the center of your A2 card (either in matching ink or with Versamark glue ink, as pictured), dust the powder over it, tap off the excess, and heat set the print. For more information about how to emboss using stamps, please watch this instructional video.

Step Two: These days, wedding websites are almost a requirement to manage wedding logistics and pass along event information. More often than not, our clients ask to include their web address on their save the dates or invitations. For this save the date, we decided that instead of having a standard rectangular tag, we’d mix it up and cut out cute heart shaped tags! It really is super simple! Just stamp your web card stamp (we used our Floral Banner Web-card stamp) on a sheet of 8.5″ x 11″ card stock, spacing each printing out so that there is room around each design (we got 6 out of one sheet). With a pencil, freehand heart shapes around the design and cut out the cards. Erase any stray pencils lines that remain after cutting. Questions about using stamps? Please watch this video for more information.

Step Four: Now that all of your individual pieces are complete, you’re ready for the final touches. Tie your heart tag onto the save the date with peach tailors ribbon or another tonal shade. Address your your save the dates in a matching gold ink (either calligraphy ink or gold gel pen) and apply postage to them. We LOVE the new forever heart postage from USPS and think it ties in beautifully with the tonal heart design!

Nicole + Thomas’s Navy and Orange Lovebird Wedding Invitations

Well, this is a first (at least for OSBP) – wedding invitations inspired by a favorite hockey team! Becca at Suite Paperie sent over these whimsical wedding invitations with a navy and orange color palette inspired by the New York Islanders (aka the bride and groom’s favorite team). Beyond the color palette, Becca incorporated a sweet lovebird motif throughout the invitations along with a playful script font and bright orange envelope liner!

From Becca: Nicole and Thomas were a fun duo to work with on their wedding invitations. The couple wanted the design to capture their enthusiasm for their favorite ice hockey team – the NY Islanders – so we channeled the team’s signature colors with a navy and orange color palette. Digitally printed on soft white luxurious cotton cover stock, this suite is both whimsical and pretty.

To keep the feel of the invitation youthful, we placed small hearts and singing lovebirds throughout the suite. A playful script pairs perfectly with a clean serif typeface, and the simple double-lined borders frame the invitation, RSVP postcard, and reception card. The suite is completed by a double sided accommodations and directions card that tells guests where to stay and how to get there, and an orange chevron liner makes for a fun surprise when guests open their invitations.

Rustic Hand Lettered Wedding Invitations

I love the mix of elegant and nature-inspired details in these rustic hand lettered wedding invitations from Kim at Bright Room Studio – from the burgundy website tag and envelope calligraphy to the leather cord and kraft paper welcome reception invitation! So beautiful and perfect for a fall wedding!

From Kim: I loved creating this invitation suite for Adam and Lauren. Together we created what I think is the perfect mix of rustic and elegant. We kept the suite neutral with a small red accent on their website tag.

Everything in the suite was lettered by hand, giving it a casual feeling, but the double-thick paper, leather cord wrap, and vintage stamps made it all feel really special (the leather cord also made it smell amazing!). The kraft paper for the welcome dinner was a perfect way to set that piece apart, while still making it feel like it coordinated with the whole suite.

I was also lucky enough to design a modern Ketubah (Jewish marriage contract) for Adam and Lauren. Their promises to each other were hand lettered and surrounded by simple vines and then screen printed with gold ink on to a beautiful cotton paper. They signed it on their wedding day!

Romantic Modern Blush and Gold Wedding Invitations

I don’t often see wedding invitations that manage to be both modern and feminine – but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Ellie from Hello Tenfold! For the Clara suite from her brand new wedding invitation collection, Ellie went for it with a feminine color palette of blush taupe and gold combined with some of Hello Tenfold’s signature patterns throughout the suite. So pretty!

From Ellie: The first thing I designed for this suite was the save the date pattern, which morphed into the pattern for the envelope liner, was used again at a much bigger scale for the detail card, and then I used the same motif to create a delicate border for the invitation and menu. Combined with some dots, the motif shows up again on the reply card and thank you card. I love taking a few simple elements and expanding upon them throughout an entire stationery suite. This suite features one of my favorite color schemes: blush pink, taupe, and gold. The cotton ribbon and hang tag pull it all together!
