Gold Quilled Wedding Anniversary Certificate

I’ve had the pleasure of featuring several of Ann Martin‘s beautiful quilled wedding keepsakes over the years – from ketubahs to framed wedding invitations. Today I have the privilege of sharing a gold and white marriage certificate that Ann created to celebrate a 15th wedding anniversary!

From Ann: Quilling is the art of rolling narrow strips of paper to create a variety of shaped coils and scrolls. The technique dates back hundreds of years and has changed very little with the passage of time. For this certificate, the couple’s 15th anniversary is coming up in April. As a celebration of the occasion, I was asked to create a design based on their wedding invitation. Calligrapher Riva Brown of Living Letters Studio did the lettering. She used shimmering gold gouache for the names and also the first letter of each vow.

All of the quilling was done with gilded-edge gold and white quilling paper. The bride carried lilies in her bouquet, so she asked me to include them in the design. I used metallic gold paper to make sculptured peace lilies. The certificate is 15 x 22 inches, about half the size of the Quaker marriage certificates Riva and I often collaborate on, as they require additional space for guest signature lines. A marriage certificate can also function as an alternative guest book that can later be framed as a reminder of the day.

Aaaah! How cute are these calligraphy and watercolor popsicle birthday party invitations?? From Holly: I wanted to share a recent birthday invitation I created alongside my client, Britney Smith, for her daughter’s first birthday. She wanted something colorful and fun for an outdoor summer party. After sketching out a few ideas, we decided on a popsicle template with a white background. I did the custom calligraphy and lettering on both sides, and she then printed and watercolored them by hand to make each one a little different for each of their guests. She carried the colors from the invitation into the party decor making for a bright, joyful summer celebration!

Valentine’s Day Dinner Party Invitations

I’m not a huge fan of the traditional chocolate and roses approach to Valentine’s Day (a pretty card is more than enough for me, please and thank you) – but a Valentine’s Day dinner party with friends? I can totally get behind that idea! Luckily for us, Lana from Lana’s Shop sent over some beautiful hand lettered and illustrated paper goods that she created to help inspire a Valentine’s Day soirée!

From Lana: Valentine’s Day is typically a holiday reserved for two. But who says that it has to be? Instead of celebrating just with your special someone, why not invite invite other couples and make it a party?

To set the whimsical and intimate tone of the celebration, I hand-lettered each invitation. The wording formed the shape of a heart and was painted directly onto luxe 130lb arches watercolor paper. I paired the invitations with a playful illustrated arrow envelope liner. Each envelope was then sealed with coordinating custom address labels.

Each guest was given a mini ‘I Love you card’ to share with someone special. Other paper items included hand lettered and illustrated menus, straw flags and a love quote chalk board sign. We loved this one of a kind, personal soirée!

Minyi + Brian’s Modern Watercolor Wedding Invitations

These beautiful wedding invitations from Meghan of And Here We Are mix whimsical watercolors and hand lettering with a modern chevron pattern for a Fall wedding at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Boathouse. And the illustration of the bride and groom’s French bulldog on the RSVP? So cute!

From Meghan: Minyi and Brian had a fall Brooklyn wedding in the Prospect Park Boathouse. The wedding style was classic romance with a modern & fun twist, so we mixed a loose hand lettered script with watercolor backgrounds and chevron pattern, and also got to make a fun illustration of their French bulldog, Thor, for the RSVP postcards. Their colors were deep purple and succulent green; and Minyi loves all things sparkly, so metallic gold was a must.

The save the date and invitations feature hand-drawn letters and illustrations, which were then hand painted, letter press printed AND hot foil-stamped. They also included an after-party invitation on gold paper, and a tri-fold map of Brooklyn with some of Minyi & Brian’s favorite Brooklyn places listed. We printed a double run of the maps so that they could also be tucked into the welcome bags for out-of-town guests.

We also created loads of day-of goods including menus, programs, seating chart, signage, and place cards. The day-of items were mostly digitally printed, and the signs were hand painted with watercolor and gold leaf gilding.
