Rustic Watercolor Garden Wedding Invitations

These beautiful wedding invitations from Amanda at Wide Eyes Paper Co. seamlessly combine whimsical watercolor, beautiful botanicals, and a nature-inspired color palette of green and kraft for a casual-meets-rustic elegance design. Amanda carried the garden-inspired design all the way from the save the dates to the wedding invitations, menus, and day-of stationery!

From Amanda: This bright and cheery garden themed set is inspired by a wonderland of floral botanicals with rustic and whimsical accents that highlight the onset of Spring and Summer.

Hannah, the bride, contacted us with a specific vision for her wedding invitations and stationery. She wanted the design to convey a combination of casual and rustic elegance. With this in mind, we painted whimsical floral elements in her color scheme, and also created symmetry among the pieces by adding in simple sprigs of greenery. We executed her vision starting with the save the dates all the way through to the day-of stationery, including a custom rubber stamp and menus.

One of the more personal touches to the stationery is the custom scenery we painted for the couple. They were married under a beautiful botanical arch that we captured and incorporated onto the information card.

Hannah and James wanted to stick with the “natural look” for the envelope liners so we painted a simple watercolor liner with touches of greenery and paired it with our natural kraft envelopes to tie in her rustic theme. The set also showcases a custom monogram we created for the couple which is engraved into real wood and assembled together with natural jute twine. The monogram is also displayed on the menus as well as the letterpress tags created to assemble the save the dates.

This is one of our favorite new sets, and we had an absolute blast collaborating with Hannah and James to make it perfect for their charming outdoor wedding.

How to Send Beautiful Mail

I’m all about sending beautiful mail. And this goes beyond the adorable card on the inside (which, ahem, I’m assuming you already found the perfect card right here on OSBP) to include the actual envelope as a way of brightening someone’s mailbox. With the holiday season – and holiday cards – right around the corner, I thought we could all use a few tips on how to send beautiful mail, from colorful envelopes and envelope liners to quirky off-center address alignments! Let’s all step up our envelope game this year!

1. Colorful Envelopes

I’m going to assume that you already have a super cute card picked out – or that you made your own. But if you can, ditch the white envelope in favor of a bright colorful envelope. It becomes a literal bright spot in an otherwise dreary mailbox.

2. Envelope Liners

Envelope liners are a great way to signal that the contents of that envelope are particularly special. I like to use envelope liners for milestone stationery like birth announcements and wedding invitations – as well as our annual holiday cards. Vintage wallpaper and gift wrap sheets make fantastic DIY envelope liners!

3. Creative Addresses

Now that you have the inside of the envelope sorted out it’s time to think about the outside of the envelope! It can be fun to think creatively when writing out the address – from asymmetrical alignments to incorporating brush pens (or even actual brushes!).

This envelope features brush watercolor lettering for the name combined with a fine tip pen for the street address. Brush lettering requires a bit of practice to get a hang of the technique but isn’t as hard as you might think!

This envelope was addressed with paint pens – a wonderful way to add even more color to an envelope! A white paint pen is also the best way to address in white ink on a dark colored envelope.

4. Adorn the Envelope

Add a bit of decoration to your addressed envelope! Playful polka dots. Bold lines. Even an illustration or two! Rubber stamps (and pencil erasers in a pinch) work well for adding a colorful pattern to any envelope.

If you are working with white envelopes, dip dyeing is a quick and easy way to add a pop of color to your envelopes! You can use anything from food coloring and Kool-Aid to Rit Dye, so the colors are completely customizable!

5. Pretty Stamps

The final step! Pretty postage stamps are a surefire way to elevate any envelope into a work of art. Vintage postage stamps are readily available in large quantities and look amazing when grouped together – but you can also find some really beautiful stamps from USPS these days.

Now stick your beautiful card in the mail and make someone’s day instantly brighter! Isn’t sending (and receiving) mail the absolute best?!?

“Baby Bean” Brunch Baby Shower Invitations

Colleen from Printwheel Printshop sent over these adorable invitations for a brunch baby shower that she co-hosted for her sister! The invitations (and envelopes) feature Colleen’s whimsical hand lettering that perfectly set the tone for a laid back brunch, along with patterns and details inspired by her sister’s favorite fabrics. So cute!

From Colleen: “Baby Bean” was on the way, and it was time to celebrate! I was so excited to design these invitations for my sister and “Baby Bean” (our nickname for her little bundle of joy). A baby shower brunch is a simple and sweet event, so I wanted these invitations set the tone for this beautiful and fun day.

My sister owns her own sewing business, Little Luvins. So I pulled inspiration for the style and color of the shower invitations from her favorite fabrics. I also decided to use hand lettering on each piece to create a whimsical, playful look.

Along with the invitation, we included a tiny pocket, containing instructions and a blank library card. The instructions asked each guest to bring a children’s book to help fill Baby Bean’s future library. Guests could fill out the library card and add a special note. It would then double as a gift tag and keepsake for the mom-to-be.

The invitations were printed on Crane’s Lettra paper by Rise and Shine Letterpress. Their team was fantastic to work with, and the letterpress truly brought the design to life.

I ordered envelopes from Paper Presentation and created my own envelope liners to complement the triangles on the invitations. Each envelope was addressed in similar lettering to match the invitations. I ordered a custom “Baby Bean” stamp from Simon’s Stamps for the envelopes, and it was the perfect finishing touch. My sister was thrilled with the result! As for the shower, it was a success, and “Baby Bean” (Samantha) arrived this past June.

Gold Foil and Lace Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! Designer Lauren Chism shared these beautiful gold foil and lace wedding invitations here a couple of years ago – and today she’s here to share a slightly more traditional spin on that combination! The invitations feature gold foil text surrounded by a subtle lace-inspired letterpress blind impression pattern, and a beautiful gold floral envelope liner. So classically beautiful!

From Lauren: Gold foil is definitely having a moment right now… and you would think if you’ve seen one gold foil and lace wedding invitation, you’ve seen them all, but these invitations might prove you wrong!

Brittany and her mom were drawn to Carley and John’s wedding invitations but were looking for something a little more traditional with lace accents instead of the lace taking up the whole invitation background. I played with a lot of lace arrangements before we landed on this classic look and I love how timeless and elegant this suite is.

The insert and RSVP card were also printed in gold foil, with the insert featuring the lace again, that coordinated, but wasn’t exactly the same. We paired them with ivory envelopes and Brittany picked this gold floral paper from Paper Source for the liners, which she ordered and I cut down to fit her envelopes. I love how two invitations with the same printing method and general ‘style’ can be so different!

Happy (Early) Weekend!

I know, I know – it’s only Thursday! But I’ve been solo parenting this week while my husband is out of town, so I’m heading out a bit early to spend the day with my girls. We’ll have a cocktail post for you tomorrow afternoon (it’s SO good!), but in the meantime…
