From Erin: I’m so excited to share one of my favourite custom projects, these travel-guide inspired invitations! This project started with kind of a funny, serendipitous story! The groom, Brian, was a good friend of mine from back in high school, but we had lost touch over a decade since I moved to London. His fiancée, Stef, was browsing through Oh So Beautiful Paper and Pinterest while planning their wedding and found my work. Then, she decided to get in touch with me about designing her wedding invitations. After a few rounds of funny emails, we finally discovered that we had known each other all along! What a small world!

Stef and Brian are a fun-loving couple who love to travel the world. Their destination wedding was at a beautiful resort in Phuket, Thailand and they were married on the beach at sunset!

At the outset, Stef already had some lovely ideas for her invitations, which she shared with me and I used as a starting point. She loved the idea of a travel guide which documents not only their wedding details, but all the amazing restaurants and local haunts that their friends could try out when they arrived for the wedding weekend. Armed with lots of content, we decided on a pocket-sized accordion fold-out booklet as our format. This was able to house all their restaurant and spa reviews, as well as dress codes, packing guide, and a helpful map of the local area!

Stef also showed me the beautiful lace pattern of her dress which incorporated dragonflies, and I was immediately smitten with it! The color palette for her wedding was cool blues and cream, inspired by sandy beaches and the flowing dresses of her bridesmaids. We worked that inspiration into the aesthetic of the suite, with the subtle dragonfly lace illustration on the front cover, and gold foil hand lettering for their names.

To complete the stationery suite, we also made wedding programs, which doubled as confetti pockets, calligraphy place cards and thank you cards!

Brush Lettered Gold and Navy Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! Let’s start the week off right with some gorgeous wedding invitations! It can be so hard to find a balance between elegant and semi-formal yet fun and beachy in a wedding invitation. Alex of Goodheart Design really hit the nail on the head with these brush lettered gold and navy wedding invitations! This invitation suite features Alex’s signature brush lettering, shiny gold foil against deep navy paper, and a surprise tropical pattern!

From Alex: This is definitely one of my favorite wedding invitation suites so far! This was my first time using this navy and coral color palette and experimenting with patterns – so it was fun trying to figure out how to make it all flow together in a beautiful way. I think gold foil is super classy, so pairing it with fun vibrant colors and patterns makes it feel a little more relaxed but still very nice.

The bride and groom were married at a beautiful villa by the beach in southern California. They had a very specific color scheme they wanted to stick to: navy, coral, peach, and gold. They wanted a semi-formal and elegant invitation with a fun beachy vibe.

We decided to keep the design simple with a modern sans serif font and brush lettering emphasizing their names. To bring in the fun factor, as well as the navy and coral color scheme, we had each piece printed on a different colored paper. To help incorporate the beachy vibe we printed a navy blue watercolor illustrated tropical leaf pattern on the back of the main invitation.

All three pieces were printed by Czar Press. The main invitation features gold foil on 110# navy paper that was duplexed to 110# white paper with the digitally printed tropical leaf pattern. The RSVP was digitally printed with navy text on 110# coral paper and the details card was also digitally printed with navy text on #110 blush paper. We wanted to keep the watercolor look throughout all the pieces, which is why most of the pieces were digitally printed. The envelopes were an orangey/coral color from Paper Source and were all hand addressed by me.

Tropical Seafoam and Gold Foil Save The Dates

Today’s tropical seafoam and gold foil save the dates were inspired by the destination wedding’s seaside venue of sunny Cabo San Lucas, Mexico! Designed by Clara of Goldie Design Co., this save the date combines traditional and elegant design elements with a beach-inspired color palette and plenty of shiny gold foil. So pretty!

From Clara: When designing this custom save the date, the bride wanted to incorporate the fun Cabo destination wedding vibe while keeping it very traditional and elegant. By using a beach-inspired color palette of teals and blues, along with pops of blush pink and gold, and gorgeous engagement photos taken at the beach where the wedding will take place, the guests are sure to get a good feel for this destination wedding!

The outer envelope is covered in beautiful navy blue calligraphy for the address, paired with beach-inspired vintage stamps – always a must! One of my favorite things about this navy blue ink is the way it has that flowing gradient effect throughout the letterforms. Upon opening the envelope, guests will find a seafoam green enclosure wrapped in a custom belly band. This belly band features a geometric pattern inspired by Mexican tiles found throughout the architecture of this destination, and topped off with a custom wedding monogram.

When opening the enclosure, you will first see the custom calligraphy save the date card printed in gold foil front and center. The design of this card was kept very simple so that the eye wasn’t pulled to one part of the enclosure only – the entire invitation flowed together in perfect beachy unison! The pocket to the right holds the gold foil printed accommodations card and an accordion style card with several of the couple’s engagement photos.

The bride had so many favorite engagement photos (I don’t blame her – I mean look at that beach!) that she asked me to design a creative way to display several of the images in addition to the one in the enclosure oval slot! So, this accordion card is what we ended up with, and it was a perfect little unique touch, especially with the wedding hashtag displayed on the back of the card!

Nautical Navy and Gold Foil Wedding Invitations

Nautical aesthetics are so timeless and these nautical navy and gold foil wedding invitations, inspired by Cape Cod, are no exception! Laura of Paper & Honey designed this invitation suite with a simple, yet bold, color palette to complement the bride’s oceanside nuptials. Can’t you just smell the salty ocean air?!

From Laura: Working on Megan and Gavin’s Cape Cod-inspired suite was a complete joy. With the current trends leaning towards lots of blush, greenery, and light, feminine details, it was so much fun to break out of that a bit and play with rich colored paper for an oceanside soiree.

Together with her wedding planner, Cape Cod Celebrations, Megan described her wedding as a “romantic beach wedding with a touch of prep.” The perfect event to close out the summer! We worked with a color palette of deep navy, crisp whites, and the loveliest gold. The invitation and information card were stamped with white and gold foils, the RSVP card was letterpress printed and gold foil stamped. All pieces were delivered to guests in an envelope crisp with hand calligraphed addresses, gold envelope liners, and vintage postage stamps.

As an accountant living in Chicago, Megan loves to mix the preppy and traditional with modern new trends. She is a huge fan of bold, beautiful calligraphy, and wanted to scrap traditional wording etiquette in favor of a large and in charge hand lettered “Megan & Gavin.” We took this element and used it in the invitation and custom address rubber stamp, and even throughout their reception stationery via menus and wooden welcome signage.

While their wedding was held in historic Cape Cod, Megan didn’t want her suite to get too kitschy and nautical. We kept it simple with the color palette and use of bold stripes on several cards, as well as a navy and white striped ribbon to hold everything together. We were able to have some fun with the lobster bake rehearsal dinner invitation by including the littlest gold foil lobster! This tiny crustacean detail brought some amusement for an otherwise gorgeously preppy suite, and it just might be my favorite part of Megan and Gavin’s wedding invitation.
