Montana Nature-Inspired Calligraphy Wedding Invitations

We’ve seen beautiful tropical-inspired wedding invitations and black tie garden party wedding invitations from Anna of Cast Calligraphy – and today she’s here to share some gorgeous Montana nature-inspired calligraphy wedding invitations! Anna kept a neutral color palette of gray and white paired with a soft powder green to accommodate the temperamental June weather in Montana. The design includes classic serif text paired with Anna’s modern calligraphy, a custom map of the Seeley Lake area, and vintage cactus stamps paired with a more recent (but still vintage-inspired) black and white rose stamp!

From Anna: Katie and Sam got married in June in Seeley Lake, Montana – one of the most beautiful places in the state, in my opinion! They wanted the wedding to simply reflect the beauty of the area, and were deferring to nature to make the biggest impression. The weather in Montana in June can be temperamental, so keeping the design neutral was important. Luckily it was a perfectly beautiful day!

The invitations were digitally printed on a thick eggshell paper in a charcoal grey ink and soft powder green. We had a lot of fun finalizing the custom map, which highlighted the venue, lodging sites, trails and recreation areas, and local towns. On the back side were the details outlining the weekend events and directions. It’s quite a distance from the nearest airport, but guests surely soaked in the beautiful views along the way.

Rubber stamps were used to print the return addresses and vintage stamps were mixed with the beautiful black and white rose stamps (which were very popular this year!). A perfectly natural wedding invitation for a perfect Montana ceremony. Congrats Katie and Sam!

Best of 2015: DIY

Oh So Beautiful Paper: The Best of 2015 / Calligraphy by Cast Calligraphy

We had SO many fun DIY projects on OSBP this year! Lots of really pretty printables, from tropical envelope liners to calligraphy Halloween favor bags, and some fun DIY foil projects where I tried (and failed) to resist the urge to put hologram foil on everything in sight. There were DIY rubber stamp wedding invitations and save the dates, and way more DIY party and entertaining ideas than in previous years. Also, paper flowers! I’ve been loving Rachael’s crepe paper flower posts and Mandy made some amazing gold paper air plants before heading off on maternity leave last year. We ended the year on a DIY high note with one of my all time favorite projects: DIY gold and copper leaf gift tags! And I’ve got lots of new DIY ideas and projects up my sleeves for 2016 that I can’t wait to share with all of you! But in the meantime, here are a few of my absolute favorite DIY projects from 2015!

Tropical Hawaiian Calligraphy Wedding Invitations

I’m still in love with the tropical foliage trend, and what could possibly be a more perfect application of this gorgeous motif than invitations for a wedding in Hawaii?? Anna from Cast Calligraphy created these tropical Hawaiian calligraphy wedding invitations for a sophisticated and modern wedding in Kauai. I’m absolutely loving the delicate letterpress printed palm leaf pattern on the invitation – and of course Anna’s gorgeous calligraphy throughout the suite!

From Anna: When Portia and Daniel mentioned their wedding was in Kauai I was immediately brainstorming ideas for their tropical invitation. I had been vacationing there for years and knew the character of the island. I also knew that Portia and Daniel were looking for a sophisticated and modern invitation suite, with simple imagery and clean lines.

We landed on a neutral color palette with hints of yellow and green. The invitations, printed by Birdwalk Press, were letterpress printed lightly with the palm tree leaves in a light buttery yellow color and with the custom calligraphed text on top. The rsvp card was printed digitally on a matching pearl white paper, with a vintage pineapple image to pay homage to the island’s local treasured fruit.

The envelopes matched perfectly and were calligraphed in white ink and addressed to their list of close family and friends. A rubber stamp was made to stamp the return address in white and a custom liner of a banana leaf detail was assembled inside (not shown). I was thrilled with the result and lived vicariously through the bride and groom during their romantic tropical getaway. Congrats Portia and Daniel!

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! We’ve definitely entered cold and flu season here in DC – my entire family has been through the ringer over the last week! Today it’s poor little Alice’s turn to have a cold. So I’m off to snuggle my sweet almost toddler and hope that she feels better soon! But in the meantime…

Rustic Moonrise Kingdom-Inspired Wedding Invitations

Rubber stamps are such an underutilized method for printing wedding invitations! Michael of Anticipate Invitations created these Moonrise Kingdom-inspired wedding invitations for a rustic wedding in Maine – and almost the entire suite is printed using rubber stamps! I love the attention to detail in these wedding invitations, right down to the vintage postcard hexagon tag!

From Michael: Alexis and Brian drew inspiration for their custom wedding invitation from Wes Anderson films (think Moonrise Kingdom and Grand Budapest Hotel) and the vibe of their rustic venue, Josias River Farm in Cape Neddick, Maine. It had to be colorful—but not bold, vintage—but not campy, and modern—but not unwelcoming. Although with the venue being a farm it could skew rusticly romantic, the couple requested something a bit more unexpected. We were happy to accept the challenge and the couple was a breath of fresh air to work with. They were able to articulate what it was they wanted their guests to feel, and that was a great starting point from which to jump from.

Since materials were just as important as the design to the couple, we turned to the beautiful handmade quality that only rubber stamps can give for printing. The printing was done on large sheets of paper and then later cut down to size so that less precision was needed to ensure they were printed straight. Aside from the full-color vintage postcard hexagon card, all the pieces were printed using this method.

The invitation card was printed on pale blue paper, backed with an off-white, speckled recycled paper for thickness, and then printed using an extra-large custom rubber stamp. The coral RSVP postcard was cleverly written in a Mad Libs style and was also backed with a contrasting paper color to give it rigidity and cohesiveness. All the pieces were packaged together with coral bakers twine and a hexagon card made from a vintage Maine postcard. A brown kraft pastry bag stood in for an envelope and added just the right amount of quirkiness and vintage flair.

Return address labels were printed on the same blue green paper as the invitation and sealed the pastry bag closed for mailing. A collection of nature-themed, vintage postage stamps were sourced by the bride and completed the whole package.
