Paula + Bryan’s Whimsical Floral Wedding Invitations

These stunning wedding invitations from Belinda Love Lee feature whimsical hand lettering paired with watercolor illustrations! Created for her brother’s wedding this past summer, Belinda was inspired by the vineyard wedding venue to incorporate vine illustrations along with floral details. Hand lettering (by the bride!) in white ink on the kraft envelopes was the perfect finishing touch!

From Belinda: Paula and Bryan’s wedding invitations are very dear to my heart because I had the privilege of designing for my very own brother’s special day. The invitations were inspired by the vineyard wedding venue. We definitely had to incorporate vines of some sort into the design.

I hand illustrated the vines and flowers using gauche and watercolor, then paired it along side some whimsical hand lettering to make it really unique and individual to them. They wanted the invitations to have a good balance of elegant and rustic elements. The envelopes themselves were penned by the bride to give a personal touch for each guest.

Prior to the wedding we designed a wedding website for guests to read their love story and submit rsvps. It was really awesome to see my design not only on paper but on screen!

The programs I designed for the day were not only pretty but also very functional as we added little handles, making them into fans for guests to use on that warm day.

Christine + Danny’s Sophisticated Floral Wedding Invitations

Last month, designer Kate Holgate sent over these vibrant navy and pink floral wedding invitations. Today she’s back with another floral invitation, this time pairing elegant sophistication with vintage floral illustrations. The green, black, and white color palette was inspired by the wedding floral arrangements and bridesmaid dresses. So pretty!

From Kate: Christine is a close family friend and was married last December in Boise, Idaho. She was so laid-back and open to ideas. I loved working with her. Christine has impeccable taste. She wanted a invitation suite that was not over-the-top but unique.

Her flowers were white and green, and her bridesmaids were wearing black. I decided to use classic type paired with vintage floral illustrations for the design.

Digitally printed on a pearlized paper, we tied the piece with a monogram and black + white striped string. The result was stunning (just like the bride!).

Sarah + Blake’s Dip Dye Destination Wedding Invitations

Becca from Suite Paperie sent over these beautiful dip dye invitations for a destination wedding, and in fact they’re quite a global affair! Bride and groom Sarah and Blake currently live in Uganda but are planning a New Year’s Eve wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico! Becca incorporated a beautiful blue dip dye to echo the beaches of the wedding venue, metallic details, and hand lettering from the bride!

From Becca: This is one of our all-time favorite suites from any wedding season…ever! We channeled the beaches of Cabo San Lucas (where this couple will be getting married) to create the ultimate destination suite. Square invitations that incorporate hand-drawn elements were carefully dip-dyed by hand over the course of 4 days to create the perfect ombre look.

Custom mini maps of the Cabo San Lucas area were created, including points of interest for guests as well as a schedule featuring the events of the wedding weekend. Manilla tag RSVP cards were paired with kraft envelopes to keep the suite a bit earthy, while the gold doily liners and metallic twine that tied everything together gave it the perfect pop of glam for a New Year’s Eve wedding.

This project comes with a pretty amazing back story. Sarah, the bride, found us online from a previous feature on OSBP. She is currently living in Uganda with her fiancé, Blake. The pair met while they were working on a mission together, and decided to stay in Africa and continue to work and better the community they live in. Not only are these two amazing people, but Sarah is an incredible artist!

In between power outages, she managed to draw and scan all of the script elements that appear in this suite. She sent them via email and we turned her handwriting into vector art. I’ve never spoken to Sarah or Blake on the phone, we’ve never skyped, and I only know what the two look like from their engagement photos on their website (they’re quite the adorable couple!) It’s amazing what a powerful tool the Internet can be. We hope creative collaborations across the globe become the norm: you never know what kind of talent you’ll stumble upon.

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! Did you all have a happy Halloween? Sophie was a little lion and all ready to hand out candy, but it was rainy and windy so we didn’t get as many trick or treaters as we had expected. More candy for us I guess? Anyway, I’m super excited for this weekend. I’m co-hosting a party for a dear friend due with a baby girl in just a few short weeks! And of course I’m looking forward to sharing the decor and paper details with all of you! But in the meantime…

Lauren + Juan’s Literary Letterpress Wedding Invitations

The ladies of Typecase Industries – Emily, Stephanie, and Alessandra – created these whimsical wedding invitations for a pair of book-loving high school sweethearts right here in Washington, DC! The invitation features a timeline of their relationship along with whimsical illustrations and a gatefold layout with a wax seal. So pretty!

From Typecase Industries: Lauren is getting her MFA in poetry and is a book lover, and wanted to evoke both of those things with her wedding invitation suite. The save the date is a bookmark! The gatefold invitation with the wax seal was a perfect choice: romantic but not overly complicated, much like the couple themselves.

Lauren and Juan have been together since high school, so we decided to include a timeline along the gate-fold flaps so the wedding guests could get to know a bit more about their history. Their favorite illustration is the book with a ring in it. Juan had the engagement ring in a hollowed-out copy of Jane Austen’s collected works when he proposed to Lauren in the Bishop’s Garden at the National Cathedral.

The invitations were letterpress printed on our Vandercook 4 in our studio in Washington, DC. The wax seal was made using an ampersand from our metal type collection at our studio.
