Calligraphy Inspiration: Mon Voir

With spring just around the corner, I really wanted to showcase the work of some fresh talent. Something playful and charming; something that feels like a breath of fresh air. I found just what I was looking for in self-taught calligrapher and illustrator Jenna Rainey of Mon Voir. Her illustration work really comes through in her style, as it has smooth painterly quality. I’m quite smitten with Jenna’s calligraphy and I’m sure you will be, too!  – Julie

Jenna’s lively style floats and dances its way across the surface. Elements of her writing have an air of romance, much like that of an old love letter.

Youthful and lighthearted, I love that even a single word can bring the ordinary to life. Jenna’s calligraphy is all the embellishment you need!

Welcome to the new OSBP!

The-New-Oh-So-Beautiful-Paper

Hello, and welcome to the new OSBP! You may notice that things look a bit different over here today (and for those of you reading through a reader or via email, click on through to check it out!).

This change has been a long time coming, and I’m thrilled to finally share our new look with you – I hope you like it as much as I do! I was thrilled to work with Liz from Linda & Harriett, who contributed her beautiful hand lettering and illustrations to the new design, and Eli Van Zoeren, who worked his magic to bring our design to life on screen – including our first ever responsive (and mobile friendly) design!

We’ve also updated the navigation to make it easier to find content and move around the site, updated the Designer Rolodex (featuring a brand new logo by Meant to Be Calligraphy), and made our curated shopping galleries front and center with the new Market List section. Have fun exploring!

Preppy Palm Beach Wedding Stationery Inspiration

Happy Monday everyone! We’re experiencing yet another winter storm here in DC, so I’m excited to start the week off with some colorful wedding invitation inspiration from Nichole at Coral Pheasant! Inspired herself by the playful vibe of Palm Beach, these invitations feature brush style lettering from Moira Ink and lots of pineapples. So fun!

From Nichole: Punchy colors, pineapples and a preppy chic Palm Beach vibe were the inspiration behind this invitation. I asked Jenny of Moira Ink to create playful brush style lettering that I incorporated into the suite and signage. Striking envelopes with bold edge coloring were paired with a pineapple patterned envelope liner.

This same pattern was used to create custom fabric that became matching napkins and a bow tie for the groom – a great and unexpected way to carry this design element throughout, creating a really cohesive experience. (Something to think about all you brides-to-be!) A laser cut pineapple belly band repeated the motif and held all the pieces together. Laser cutting was also used to create the front of the wedding program and mini laser cut pineapples adorned cute cupcakes.

One of my favorite elements were the pineapple welcome bags. Treats for the guests included tropical trail mix and a pineapple upside down cake shot! Little pineapple juice cans were wrapped in coordinating labels and a recipe card provided illustrated instructions. The instructions were tucked into a polka dot bag and affixed to the welcome letter. I don’t know about you, but I’d love to be on the receiving end of this cute package – and I’d be super stoked for the wedding!
