Joanie + Todd’s Romantic Linen and Lace Wedding Invitations

These wedding invitations from The Blue Envelope are so soft and romantic.  Amanda from The Blue Envelope worked with bride and groom Joanie and Todd to create a linen pocket fold-out invitation for their destination wedding in South Carolina – with just a bit of lace to tie the invitation suite together.  So pretty!

From Amanda: Joanie and Todd were married at the beautiful Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, South Carolina.  Joanie wanted her wedding invitations to be simple yet unique and elegant yet understated.  The wedding took place on the cotton dock and the entire wedding reflected the couple’s personality, right down to the cocktail straws that guests adorned in mason jars during the ceremony.

After settling on a destination wedding on a holiday weekend, the couple decided to make it a three day event with a crawfish boil to kick off their new lives as husband and wife.  As a result, the invitation suite required several different pieces, each conveying a lot of information for their guests.  We wanted to come up with a way to make it all fit together in one beautiful package.

We started off using card stock as our pocket fold invitation but it needed something more… I wanted the invitations to reflect not only the couple’s personalities but the simplistic elegance of the location.  We decided to use linen fabric instead of card stock and hand stitched the edges to create an invitation that unfolds into a pocket invitation.  We topped it off with a lace garnish to pull in that beautiful vintage feel.

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone!  We’re currently in upstate New York for a few days to spend time with my husband’s family, including our nieces + nephew, before the baby arrives in just a couple of months (eek!).  It’s also really nice to escape the heat and humidity of DC for a few days!  Today I’m heading out a bit early and hoping you all have a wonderful weekend!  But in the meantime…

Michelle + Martin’s Classic Purple Edge Painted Wedding Invitations

These sophisticated wedding invitations from Courtney Callahan Paper combine modern patterns with pops of color and a classic calligraphy font – all letterpress printed on soft and thick cotton paper.  I love the bold dose of color from the purple envelope liner and edge painting!

From Courtney: Michelle and Marty, a NYC-based couple, have a dynamite sense of style and wanted a fresh, modern wedding invitation suite that also incorporated their wedding colors, slate and plum.  Mixing bold patterns is one of my favorite design techniques, so when a bride tells me she is not afraid of pattern – it’s music to my ears!

Letterpress printed on Crane’s Lettra Pearl White, this oversized square invitation combined quatrefoil and geometric circles in slate with pops of plum on the invitation edging and inner envelope liner.  A flourished calligraphy font adds just a touch of timeless elegance to the overall suite.

Menden + Jonathan’s Travel-Inspired Destination Wedding Invitations

I will always be fond of travel-inspired wedding invitations.  This destination wedding invitation suite from Momental Designs features both a travel theme and antique modes of travel, from old timey bicycles to hot air balloons!  Designer Kristy Rice and her team at Momental Designs added their signature hand painted touches on top of letterpress printed text and illustration elements.  So pretty!

From Kristy: Menden’s ideas for her wedding invitations were entirely inspired by vintage travel: hot air balloons, early bicycles, and the like.  She also was obsessed with letterpress and our hand painted look.  We launched into creation of the save the dates first – mini booklets designed to fill guests in on all the important details for this destination wedding in Greece.

Inspired by vintage tags, the save the date booklet was all tied up with airmail-inspired baker’s twine.  We hand painted stripes in red, white and blue inks atop the letterpress text and illustration to complete the look.  The save the date mini-booklets made sure guests were prepared to “email away,” “enjoy your stay,” and “find your way.”

Boarding pass invitations were the perfect fit for the wedding’s travel theme.  We added a swooping banner inviting guests to a “wedding getaway” as they slid out of each brightly striped sleeve.

The color palette was made up of chipboard materials in various shades of tan in addition to bold red, blue and crisp whites.  Deep letterpress impressions mixed with the super thick chipboard made a big statement and had a certain sense of restrained luxury to the touch.
