Modern Black, White, and Gold Foil Wedding Invitations

These modern black, white, and gold foil wedding invitations by Meghan of And Here We Are are just seriously so awesome. I love the combination of modern sans serif type with hand lettering and illustration used throughout the invitation suite, not to mention the crisp black text with gold foil. But the patterned wrap with hand painted brush patterns under a translucent envelope? That might just be the coolest thing ever!

From Meghan: We pulled out all the stops for the invitations to Lauren and Ben’s hip NYC wedding at the Foundry in Long Island City, Queens. Our direction was “modern, black, white, and gold,” so we paired condensed sans serif type with hand-brushed patterns and illustrations. For the invitation, we combined letterpress with gold foil on double-thick Savoy in bright white. The RSVP became a true postcard, printed onto glossy stock to stand apart from the letterpress pieces; this also allowed the clients to create two different cards for recipients invited to different pre- and post-wedding events.

We had the idea to create a patterned wrap enclosed in a translucent envelope instead of a simple envelope liner, which gave the overall package a really modern feel. Inspired by our brush pattern notecards, we created a diagonal wrap of mixed hand-painted patterns, folded diagonally around the invitation.

The day-of paper goods included a plethora of items as well. We created menus, die cut escort cards, custom placemats, and used their “logo” on things like tote bags, and matchbooks.

Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! And welcome to my first Friday round up of the New Year! It feels nice to be back in a regular schedule and sharing some favorite links of the week with all of you. In fact, the last time I did one of these posts we had just embarked on the renovation of our home’s only full bathroom. And I’m happy to report that, a month later, our bathroom is finally done! It took sooooo much longer than I had originally anticipated and we still have a few finishing touches to take care of, but I can’t wait to share it with you! It’s seriously the most amazing transformation. But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

That’s it for me this week! Stay tuned for another mocktail recipe this afternoon – we’ll be doing one each week for the rest of the month! If you missed it, last week’s Mock Mai Tai recipe was SO good! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday! xoxo

Preppy and Nautical Gold Foil Wedding Invitations

Nautical weddings and gold foil were just MADE for each other. I mean, navy blue with gold foil and stripes? Perfection. These gorgeous preppy and nautical gold foil wedding invitations come to us from Samantha and Whitney of Gus & Ruby Letterpress. In addition to the shiny gold foil – including gold foil edging! – these invitations feature gorgeous letterpress printed text, a striped belly band, custom wax seal, and a vintage nautical chart envelope liner. Just gorgeous!

From Samantha and Whitney: This custom suite was designed for a lovely couple’s wedding held on the beautiful coast of Maine. The bride and groom wanted the invitation suite to reflect the classic, New England preppy and nautical feel of their event. We paired a beautiful flourished script with a traditional roman font to keep the look clean and classic. A classic, crisp palette of navy, metallic gold and white, along with nautical graphics (a sand dollar) and stripes, set the tone for their seaside event.

The elegant type-set invitation was printed on double-thick 100% cotton and featured gold foil edging to give an extra pop of glam! All of the invitation pieces were wrapped in a flat printed preppy nautical stripe belly band and then tied with gold twine and finished with a custom wax seal. A fun navy outer envelope and custom envelope liner featuring a vintage nautical chart of Kennebunkport, ME completed the suite. As always, the pieces were lovingly letterpress printed by hand on our antique press on beautiful, textural, super thick 100% cotton paper.

Industrial Glam Wedding Invitations

These gorgeous industrial glam wedding invitations from designer Liz Blumeyer combine beautiful vintage-inspired flourishes with modern details. The overall design was inspired by her wedding venue and her grandmother’s wedding dress from the 1950s (which Liz wore down the aisle!), with a classic ivory and black color palette and antique gold envelopes. I’m also loving the hand painted pink watercolor wash on the save the dates and invitation card. Such a subtle and beautiful detail!

From Liz: Our wedding stationery suite was inspired by our venue, The Guild KC – an industrial glam space featuring an enormous 1930s chandelier. Like the venue, the suite evokes a dramatic, moody feeling with a hint of vintage charm. The border on the invitation card was a nod to the ’30s, but since my dress was my grandmother’s from the 1950s we didn’t want an overwhelming Art Deco style in any of our printed pieces. We opted for a classic look without a defining influence from any particular era.

Our color palette was primarily black, ivory, and antique gold with small touches of orchid pink and emerald. The majority of the suite was letterpress printed on ivory paper in black ink. The response and website enclosures were letterpress printed on black paper in metallic gold ink. I was wary of adding too much color, so I opted for blind printed embellishments on the enclosure pieces to add a subtle texture without adding too much visual weight. I wanted an organic detail to balance the largely structured look of the suite, so I hand painted a soft pink watercolor wash on each invitation and save the date card before printing.

The pieces were tied together with a length of emerald embroidery floss before being inserted into the envelopes. We had a custom wax seal stamp made with our monogram, which we used as an embellishment on the envelopes as well as the ceremony programs.

Best of 2015: DIY

Oh So Beautiful Paper: The Best of 2015 / Calligraphy by Cast Calligraphy

We had SO many fun DIY projects on OSBP this year! Lots of really pretty printables, from tropical envelope liners to calligraphy Halloween favor bags, and some fun DIY foil projects where I tried (and failed) to resist the urge to put hologram foil on everything in sight. There were DIY rubber stamp wedding invitations and save the dates, and way more DIY party and entertaining ideas than in previous years. Also, paper flowers! I’ve been loving Rachael’s crepe paper flower posts and Mandy made some amazing gold paper air plants before heading off on maternity leave last year. We ended the year on a DIY high note with one of my all time favorite projects: DIY gold and copper leaf gift tags! And I’ve got lots of new DIY ideas and projects up my sleeves for 2016 that I can’t wait to share with all of you! But in the meantime, here are a few of my absolute favorite DIY projects from 2015!
