Spence’s Modern Blue + Kraft Paper Birth Announcement

These modern baby boy birth announcements from Brianna at Collected show that clean and simple can still be incredibly sweet and beautiful. The double-sided layout features all the essential details on one side and a photo on the other. I love the way the navy and kraft paper color palette highlights Spence’s gorgeous baby blue eyes!

From Brianna: I was so happy when Brooke contacted me about these birth announcements. She  didn’t want anything babyish and wanted to keep them modern and simple, which of course is music to my designer ears. While we kept the design of the announcement relatively simple, I think the kraft petal envelopes add an element of sweetness and fun.

{happy weekend!}

Happy First Day of Summer everyone! I tried to make the most of the last official week of spring: I took a pointed pen calligraphy class taught by Michele of Meant To Be Calligraphy (that’s my handiwork below) and took Sophie for her first real outing in a playground – including her first experience in a swing! We don’t have any particular plans for the weekend, but I’m hoping to make some progress in setting up my office and unpacking our remaining boxes. I can’t wait to be organized again! But in the meantime…

Sophie at 9 Months

Between moving and the National Stationery Show, these past few months have raced by in a complete blur – and this week Sophie turned 9 months old! In my last real update, Sophie had just developed head and neck control, and now she’s getting ready to crawl! She’s sitting up, grabbing everything in sight (including the cats when they get close enough), and has a new tooth with a couple more on the way. She’s an incredibly social little baby: all smiles, giggles, and happy babbling sounds everywhere she goes. She loves food of any and all variety, bath time, animals, and – most of all – other babies. I don’t know if I have the words to express how much joy she brings us on a daily basis, so instead I’ll just share a few of my favorite photos from the past few months!

Her first birthday is barreling towards us, which makes me want to squeeze her tight and hope that time slows down just a smidge. Good thing she’s such a snuggly baby.

{happy weekend}

Hello friends. It was a sad week here in my Capitol Hill neighborhood of DC: Frager’s, our beloved hardware store (and 93-year old community institution), was destroyed in a huge fire on Wednesday night. Thankfully everyone made it out of the store okay and the brick facade of the building survived the fire. The owners plan to rebuild and neighborhood businesses have offered temporary work for displaced employees, but I’m still reeling from the destruction. My husband and I moved to Capitol Hill in 2009, and Frager’s quickly became one of my favorite places on the Hill. That probably seems weird, but it’s so much more than a hardware store: my husband and I bought our first Christmas tree together from Frager’s. I’ve purchased enough paint that the guys behind the counter know Sophie by name. Frager’s supports local sports teams, employs neighborhood teens during the summer, and even hosts an egg hunt for little kids during Easter. I look forward to a future teenage Sophie getting her first part-time job there. I just can’t imagine Capitol Hill without Frager’s. Thankfully our neighborhood has a history of rallying together to help local families and businesses in need, and I’m looking forward to helping in any way that I can.
