DIY Warhol-Inspired Shoe Table Runner

My love for Warhol is not a secret. His early illustrations of shoes – though not his most famous – will always be one of my favorite things in the world. So, when we were looking for fresh ideas of how to interpret a table runner for a girly party, his shoe imagery immediately came into my head. I love the pops of color and the lovely unique shapes of the shoes against a black background, giving a table setting an instant wow factor. And although Laura and I styled this with Warhol’s famous red lips, bananas, and striking black and white houndstooth, you can also do this look with pastel colors (maybe a bit of metallic or glitter), because, well, a shoe-themed party is the best kind of party! –Erin from BerinMade Paper Goods

To make the runner:

Step 1. Cut out your shoe shapes from the downloadable templates. Our templates can be used on any paper cutting machines, or you can use good old fashioned scissors and a cutting knife.

Step 2. Lay out your black kraft paper – or tape several sheets of black card stock together to make a strip the length of your table.

Step 3. Lay out all your shoe shapes and arrange until you’re happy with how it looks. Stick down using a glue stick and let dry!

Blue and Gold Fern Wedding Invitations

Botanicals are having such a moment right now! From tropical palm fronds to the gorgeous fern silhouettes in these wedding invitations from Ellie of Hello Tenfold, I’m loving all the leaves I’m seeing these days! I also loved how Ellie combined the fern silhouettes with an unexpected color palette of blue and lavender and beautiful gold details. That gold wax seal over the vellum wrap alone is just so beautiful!

From Ellie: With a 2 year-old in the house, a lot of my inspiration for new designs comes from children’s books! My daughter has one with great botanical illustrations. One afternoon I started sketching ferns, which became the motif for the new Fern suite. Instead of go-to greens, I used blues, golds, and pale lavenders in this suite, which I think makes it a bit more wintery. The suite was finished with a vellum wrap, gold thread, and a gold wax seal. I love the mix of modern fonts, colors, and silhouetted ferns, with more traditional colors and textures.

DIY Let’s Party Tropical Palm Frond Ice Bucket

Happy Monday everyone! It’s getting super hot out there, and a cute ice bucket is an absolute necessity for any summer parties. So here’s a fun (and totally easy) tutorial for making an awesome “Let’s Party” tropical palm frond ice bucket using vinyl decals made with the Silhouette CAMEO®!

DIY Let's Party Tropical Palm Frond Ice Bucket / Oh So Beautiful Paper

This tropical ice bucket was inspired by a sign that I made for the bar at Paper Party 2015 using a vinyl decal made with my Silhouette CAMEO® on painted acrylic. The sign featured gorgeous “Let’s Party” lettering from Jenna of Mon Voir Calligraphy surrounded by amazing palm frond illustrations by Courtney of Swiss Cottage Designs. This tropical motif is absolutely perfect for summer! And it turns out that a pretty vinyl decal is an awesome way to take your ice bucket game to the next level.

Okay, now onto the fun part – making the decal!

The original ice bucket. Totally fine, but just begging for an upgrade.

Supplies

Silhouette CAMEO®

12″ Matte Dark Green Vinyl (or another color of your choice)

12″ Transfer Paper

Vinyl Ice Bucket (mine was vintage via eBay – but you can find new versions here!)

Scissors

Exacto knife (optional)

DIY Let's Party Tropical Palm Frond Ice Bucket / Oh So Beautiful Paper

Instructions

1. Download the decal file right here and open the file in Silhouette Studio – it’s all traced and ready to go! My ice bucket measures around 7.5″ tall and 24″ around, but I made the file a full 12″ tall with some extra tropical leaves along the bottom so you can fill in as needed if your ice bucket has different dimensions.

2. Cut a piece of vinyl 24″ in length. Load your vinyl into the machine, adjust the page size to 24″ wide by 12″ high with no cutting mat, set the cut settings to vinyl, then click Send to Silhouette and watch the machine do its thing!

3. Carefully remove excess vinyl from the liner, leaving just your words and tropical leaves. Use the exacto knife to hold down thin parts of the decal while removing the excess vinyl and to pick out the tiny bits inside the lettering and leaves. If needed, trim the decal to the height of your ice bucket and cut away any unnecessary leaves.

4. Place a piece of transfer tape over the entire decal, remove the liner backing, and transfer to your ice bucket as desired, making sure to press down firmly and smoothly along the entire decal.

Paper Party 2015!

I’m so excited to FINALLY share the photos from this year’s Paper Party during the National Stationery Show! I can’t believe the party was almost two weeks ago already – the whole evening went by so fast! I shared the party invitations designed by Moglea and printed by Bella Figura a couple of weeks ago, and the invitations really helped guide the overall party design. This year’s party had a tropical vibe, with a color palette inspired by the party invitations – shades of pink, dark blue, and gold – and lots of tropical details from foliage to flamingos!

This year’s party was again held at Hudson Terrace – but this time in their rooftop terrace! My talented friend (and professional event planner) Janice from Bellwether Events helped me plan the party and kept the entire evening running smoothly and Mandy (one of our resident DIY mavens) helped with a lot of the party décor. We also partnered with an incredible team of sponsors and creative companies to bring the party to life, including The National Stationery Show, Minted, Etsy Wholesale, Silhouette America, Smock, Simply Framed, Rifle Paper Co., Hester & Cook Design Group, Legion Paper, Postable, Mailchimp, May Designs, Flower Muse, StationeryHQ, Foryourparty.com, and Swiss Cottage Designs.

Mandy made the most amazing sign for the Paper Party this year! She hand painted some white canvas fabric in our party colors then cut out the letters and backed them with gold fabric! We accented with lasercut tropical paper foliage and pineapples from Alexis Mattox Design. Our tables featured gorgeous table runners and placemats from the new Chilewich + Hester & Cook collaboration (so pretty!) and table confetti from Minted! Michele from Meant to Be Calligraphy also lettered our menu selections on Chilewich + Hester & Cook place cards.

Courtney from Swiss Cottage Designs offered to help out with some of the day-of stationery pieces – didn’t she do the most amazing job?? Courtney designed a fun tropical-inspired cocktail menu, name tags, cocktail stir sticks, coasters, matchboxes, and a giant welcome sign! For Your Party printed the coasters, matchboxes, and stir sticks in rose gold foil.

I had a blast making signs for the party! I used my favorite DIY technique for making spray painted acrylic signs – but instead of a paint pen I used my Silhouette CAMEO to cut out vinyl decals! Michele from Meant to Be Calligraphy and Jenna from Mon Voir kindly provided lettering, which I cut out in white and hot pink vinyl. The signs ranged in size from 5″ x 7″ to 18″ x 24″ and were seriously so easy to make!

We also had a table with a demo of the Silhouettte CAMEO for party guests – we cut pineapples out of yellow and navy vinyl to wear as stickers around the party. They were such a hit! Mandy made a pineapple garland from navy card stock (so cute).

These cascading honeycombs probably made the biggest visual impact and were one of my favorite decorations at the party! We mixed 5″ honeycombs with crepe paper streamers and Mandy‘s DIY air plants. We had 4 or 5 of these cascades around the party. I love how they turned out!

The team from Smock made a couple of these “chandeliers” using strips of their gift wrap! They looked so beautiful blowing in the breeze.

This gallery wall in collaboration with Simply Framed was hands down my favorite element of the party! We mixed original calligraphy artwork from some of my favorite calligraphers with tropical-inspired illustrations, and I looooooove how it all came together! The prints all look amazing together and Simply Framed did a wonderful job matching each print to its perfect frame. Stay tuned for a little something special involving these prints tomorrow!

Can we talk about the AMAZING floral arrangements for a few minutes? Dawn from Soirée Floral absolutely killed it! We combined gorgeous peonies, garden roses, ranunculus, and greens from Flower Muse with a few tropical flowers like king protea and pink ginger flowers. We mixed a few large arrangements with smaller cocktail-size arrangements that guests could take home at the end of the evening. I’m still dreaming about these amazing blooms!

Our Smilebooth backdrop featured more lasercut tropical paper foliage from Alexis Mattox Design: palm fronds, philodendron leaves, and even a few pineapples! We also had some plastic flamingos for props, along with real philodendron leaves, protea, and ginger flowers. So. Much. Fun!
