Elizabeth + Justin’s Modern Destination Wedding Invitations

These destination wedding invitations from Megan of Mae Mae Paperie combine soft gray with blind emboss geometric shapes – such a refreshing approach for a wedding in Florida! In addition to the main invitation and rsvp card, Megan created a custom map of the beach town so the couple could share their favorite spots with friends and relatives. Love!

From Megan: This suite was designed for a sweet southern couple who had a destination wedding on the Florida panhandle. While the suite doesn’t feature color it was filled with texture through the mixing of typefaces and tactile letterpress printing of blind embossing and a soft gray ink on cotton paper.

My favorite element was the map featuring lots of fun illustrations scattered along the shore of Florida. The bride’s family vacationed annually in Carillon Beach and the couple wanted to share their favorite places to dine and visit through this map.

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone! We had a wonderful week in New York, but I’m definitely happy to be back home in DC. Sophie had such a great time on our little trip – she rode Amtrak for the first time, visited the Museum of Modern Art (she loved Mondrian and Pollock), and explored the city with her papa during the day. She even got to visit NYIGF and absolutely loved it; I think she enjoyed all the bright lights and colors around the show. As for me, I really just need to nap for about 36 hours to recover from so many long days at the Javits Center. I’ll be wrapping up my NYIGF coverage with a couple of final posts next week! But in the meantime…

NYIGF Winter 2013, Part 2

There were a bunch of familiar faces from the National Stationery Show exhibiting at NYIGF this year, which I love since it means I get to see some of my favorite stationers more than just once a year. Joel and Lauren from Old Tom Foolery made their NYIGF debut back in August, but they were back again for this show with their hilarious greeting cards.

Joining Old Tom Foolery in the snarky stationery category, the ladies of 9SpotMonk had some fun new goodies in their booth, including neon letterpress coasters, reminder note sheets, and fill-in party invitations.

With their beautiful large prints, gift wrap, and temporary tattoos, Banquet Atelier and Workshop is such a great addition to NYIGF! They also just released a new collection of greeting cards with animal motifs. So cute!

The team at One Canoe Two has also been super busy these last few months, dreaming up everything from a brand new line of offset printed cards based on hand painted designs to helpful weekly meal planning calendars (something I desperately need in my home). They also created an heirloom wood recipe box to hold and organize their recipe cards. Fun!

Katie + Matt’s Classic Southern Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! Today I’m hanging out at the New York International Gift Fair, and I can’t wait to share some of my favorite finds from the show later this week! But in the meantime, designer Kristen Smith sent over these classic invitations that she designed for a Southern wedding. I’m loving all the vibrant pops of red – such a great touch!

From Kristen: Katie is an art teacher and Matt is an industrial designer, and when it came to the invitations they wanted something elegant and classic with a few modern touches. We first set to work creating a custom monogram (since the bride and groom have last names that begin with the same initial), which could be used on everything from invitations to favor tags. The monogram was one of my favorite parts!

The RSVPs were done as postcards and pre-stamped so attendees could simply return them in the mail. On the front of the RSVP was a “Marriage Advice” madlib for guests to fill out and return as well. At the reception they were hung in a tree near the tent for everyone to see!

The invitations were letterpress printed while the other flat pieces were printed digitally. All three were then edge painted in a beautiful red to match the red liners chosen for the envelopes. The belly band that held everything together featured a gate on the front with wreaths containing their initials. On the wedding day, similar wreaths were hung with moss initials for both Katie and Matt.

The programs were done to match the invitations with the monogram and names prominently featured on the front. On the inside we used the same red from the liners and edging to make the pages stand out a little more. The inside featured information and historical tidbits about the venue as well as the history for all of the important items incorporated during the wedding ceremony. The programs were punched and tied with bakers twine as well.

Thanks Kristen!

{happy weekend!}

I’m beginning to suspect that I’m coming down with a case of the winter blues, which definitely isn’t helped by the lack of progress in our house hunt. So I’m actually really excited to break up our routine this weekend – we’re heading to New York City for a few days! My husband and Sophie are coming along, so I’ll be attending the New York International Gift Fair and serving as a judge for the Louie Awards during the day and then meeting back up with them later in the afternoon. We’re taking the train (my favorite way to travel from DC to NYC), so right now I’m trying to figure out how on earth I’m going to fit all of our clothes and baby gear into a reasonable amount of luggage. Next week I’ll report back with some of my favorites from NYIGF! But in the meantime…
