Abby + Natalie’s Sweet Sixteen Balloon Party Invitations

Sweet Sixteen party invitations! Designer Cristina Pandol was commissioned by two very design-savvy teenagers to create invitations for their upcoming Sweet Sixteen party. Cristina wanted to match the girls’ enthusiasm by screen printing the main invitation on colorful balloons, each of which was then mounted on letterpress printed cardstock and enclosed in a box with custom confetti. So fun!

From Cristina: I have no idea how, but I was tracked down by two soon-to-be-16 year-old girls about designing an epic invitation for their Sweet Sixteen party. I’d never had a Sweet Sixteen, so I decided to live vicariously through Natalie and Abby. The first thing I noticed about them was how excited and enthusiastic about everything. Their emails had sooooo many exclamation points that I felt pressured to match that enthusiasm in the invitation.

I found an online vendor to screen print my design on the balloons and I letterpress printed the remaining pieces myself at Lala Press in Silverlake. Natalie and Abby really wanted to be involved in the invitation process, so the three of us got together to assemble and build the invitation.

We mounted pink card stock to the back of each invitation to add some more color, tied the balloons to the invitation, and then cut our own confetti to put them inside of the boxes. The entire processes felt like a DIY craft party and it was so fun to reconnect with my teenage self.

Meg + Kyle’s Modern Mint and Yellow Wedding Invitations

Laura from Duncan Park Papers recently had the great honor of designing wedding invitations for one of her best friends. No pressure, right?! Laura incorporated mint green and yellow into a modern-meets-rustic wedding invitation suite, complete with a soft ikat pattern and digitally printed white ink on kraft paper. Pretty!

From Laura: Meg and I have been friends since the first grade, and I had the pleasure of witnessing her love story with Kyle unfold during our frequent visits to each others’ nearby colleges. Needless to say, I couldn’t have been happier when he proposed – and I was beyond honored when she asked me to design their wedding invitations.

Meg and Kyle knew they wanted to incorporate their colors of mint and yellow, as well as include a few rustic elements and touches of chevron. I created a simple monogram and a loose ikat chevron pattern as the key design elements, and combined them with casually elegant typefaces and a variety of papers.

The invitations and reply postcards were digitally printed on lovely 100% cotton cardstock. For the information cards we used digitally printed white ink on kraft cardstock to bring a rustic touch to the invitation suite. Gold and white twine with a mint monogram tag secured the pieces and the suite was carefully tucked into matching mint envelopes. I love how this project turned out, and enjoyed trying out a new-to-me printing technique with the white ink on kraft.

Lauren’s Kentucky Derby Day Party Invitations

After moving to a new house last year, designer Lauren Chism is getting ready to host her first big party! Fueled by her husband’s enthusiasm for the Kentucky Derby, they’re planning a fun Derby Day party full of mint juleps, big hats, and bow ties. For the invitations, Lauren went with a preppy navy and green infographic design with a striped pattern on the back. So cute!

From LaurenHaving moved from a condo to a house last year, we have enjoyed being able to entertain a bit more. We don’t typically host big parties, but are giving it a go this weekend and throwing a Derby Day party.

My husband has a real soft spot for the Kentucky Derby – it might be the bow-ties or mint juleps, I don’t know –  but his enthusiasm is infectious and is quickly turning this into an annual weekend for our family and friends. I can’t pass up an opportunity for paper goods, so I wanted to send invitations, but really struggled with a way to merge classic derby themes with the fun casual party we wanted to host. Also, when you run an invitation business, turns out there’s not a lot of time for your own invitations!

With a looming deadline of send invitations or just opting for an evite, I was pretty stuck. In an attempt to get me out of my designer’s block, my husband was listing themes, facts and ideas about the derby and it hit me: we should do an infographic! We then compiled all the details we wanted to included, and filled the rest in with fun facts about the derby. It all came together easily after that. They were digitally printed in a fun layout with a preppy striped pattern on the back.

I wanted it to feel casual and fun and get people excited to grab their hats, bow ties and cute kids and enjoy the Derby with us. It was a nice collaborative effort and I really love how they turned out.

Rustic Market-Inspired Fabric Wedding Invitations

I’m completely smitten with the idea of fabric wedding invitations, whether printed on vintage handkerchiefs or swatches of linen or muslin. But vintage-inspired miniature grain sacks? Such a great idea! Inspired by farmer’s markets, these fabric invitations from Erin at Lucky Luxe are paired with letterpress printed enclosure cards – all tucked perfectly into the invitation itself!

From Erin: We recently finished up my favorite invitation suite of all time — it’s called Market. From the rolling hills of California to the lavender fields of Provence, Market is the quintessential wedding invitation for an elegant rustic wedding in the countryside. Inspired by French grain sacks and fresh picked farmer’s market herbs, enclosure cards tuck inside our 100% cotton miniature grain sack invitations which are handprinted and available with or without vintage red stripes.
