Sheebani + Devin’s The Darjeeling Limited-Inspired Wedding Invitations

These screen printed wedding invitations from Reshma of Marigold Paper are so bright and fun – and with a color palette inspired by The Darjeeling Limited! Reshma combined illustrations inspired by traditional Indian wood block stamps with modern typography for this festive fusion wedding. Love!

From Reshma: This wedding invitation suite was designed for my friend, Sheebani Patel, and her then-soon-to-be husband, Devin Sikes. The theme and color palette (red, blue, orange, green and yellow) for their wedding was the film The Darjeeling Limited by Wes Anderson. With this being a fusion wedding, the invitation needed to blend the design sensibilities of India and America. This was achieved with three custom illustrations of a paisley, elephant and a sunflower (the groom is originally from Kansas), which were inspired by traditional Indian wood block stamps.

These illustrations were then combined with modern typography and bold colors and used on the event invitation and RSVP cards. All the pieces were then housed in a sleeve, which was placed in a red mailing envelope with recipient address labels.

Each piece of this suite was screen printed on Colorplan paper by Mama’s Sauce. The event cards were screen printed in 1-color on the front and back, and the RSVP card is screen printed in 1-color on the front. The blue sleeve was custom die cut and 1-color screen printed with an illustrated border, the names of the couple, location and date of the wedding. The RSVP envelope and mailing envelope were also screen printed in 1-color.

Kristen + Tim’s Hermès-Inspired Wedding Invitations and Save the Dates

Any time I hear that a couple wanted something they’d never seen before for their wedding invitations or save the dates – I know the results are bound to be good! These wedding invitations and save the dates from Melissa at Atheneum Creative are elegant and classically beautiful, but also innovative – starting with the letterpress printed SILK save the dates!

From Melissa: Kristen and Tim wanted something they had never seen before for their save the dates – always a great challenge! We letterpress printed their text on silk and layered it with a letterpress printed die cut cover with a custom pattern inspired by a Hermès scarf.

Their invitation picked up all the elements of the save the date, incorporating the silk fabric into a bellyband with a die cut logo tag.

For their wedding logo, Kristen wanted a monogram that resembled her favorite Hermès bracelet. We created a wedding logo/monogram with the letter “S” that emulated the rope pattern on her bracelet. In addition to the invitations and save the dates, the logo was used on the reception floor and ceremony backdrop.

Maggie + Steven’s Neon Split Fountain Wedding Invitations

I love colorful wedding invitations, so it’s no surprise that I’m a fan of these neon split fountain wedding invitations from photographer Maggie Winters. Maggie designed and hand lettered the invitations, then letterpress printed them herself (under the tutelage of Old City Press) using a neon split fountain technique!

From Maggie: I designed these myself (mostly hand lettered) and we printed them at Old City Press in Alexandria, Virginia. Pete at Old City Press helped us to print our own invitations, teaching us how to letterpress print and then setting us free with his amazing letterpress! We went with a neon color roll and some blind embossing of the confetti bits around the edges. It was really fun to try a bunch of different printing styles.

We also included a couple dinosaurs in the photos, they were our cake toppers. We made an intro video for our new business (Pop Wed Co) late last year with the same dinosaurs, so we thought it would be fun to bring them back to life in our wedding.

Where the Wild Things Are Baby Shower Invitations

How cute are these baby shower invitations from Arley-Rose and Morgan of Ladyfingers Letterpress?!? Created for their sister-in-law Mara (and the first new baby in the Calderini family!), Arley and Morgan wanted to make something really special. They ran with Mara’s love of books for these beautiful literary shower invitations!

From Arley-Rose and Morgan: Mara is an an avid book lover, so we only thought it suitable to have a book-themed baby shower inside of one of her favorite bookstores and cafés. Each page is letterpress printed on soft cotton Crane’s Lettra paper with a quote or sentiment from her favorite children’s books – words soon to be shared with little Ezra.

The cover is letterpress printed on shimmery Gmund Reaction paper and hand-sewn with grey and white bakers twine. The inside end papers are embossed with a wood-grain pattern and tipped in with a library card that serves as an RSVP card. Turning the page, a book plate attached to the page by metal photo corners invites the guests to bring their favorite kids book to help build Ezra’s reading library. Details about the shower grace the opposing page, while another favorite quote is printed on the last page.
