Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Marbled Paper

I fell in love with marbled paper when I studied abroad in Florence, Italy, and have been excited to see it pop up in so many places lately! Marbled paper and marbled patterns have shown up on everything from wrapping paper to napkins – and there are endless opportunities for marbled elements in weddings! I will definitely be incorporating marbled paper elements into my future (currently non-existent) wedding. – Annie

DIY Gold and Copper Leaf Hexagon Gift Tags

I’m not a super traditional kind of girl when it comes to the holidays. I like to mix things up! And that is especially true when it comes to holiday gift wrap. So today I’m teaming up with Fiskars to create some fun and colorful gift tags for the holidays! I actually saw this extra large Hexagon Squeeze Punch at one of my local craft stores a few weeks ago and thought it would be perfect for creating a non-traditional geometric gift tag – and that’s exactly what I did! Add in some fun colored paper and metallic shimmer and you’ve got a fantastic combination for any time of year!

This Hexagon Squeeze Punch is my new crafting best friend. I’ve tried to cut hexagons using only scissors before, and it was SUCH a disaster. The angles were all off and everything looked hopelessly wonky. The Hexagon Squeeze Punch made all my hexagon dreams come true and now I want to punch hexagons out of everything! The extra large Hexagon Squeeze Punch makes 2″ wide hexagons, which is the perfect size for gift tags and place cards. I’ve been loving the combination of metallics and pastels lately, so I used some pretty pastel paper – with some bright pink and dark navy mixed in – to make these hexagon gift tags, then added some gold and copper leaf for extra holiday shine.

We actually used both gold leaf sheets and liquid gold leaf on the gift tags. The liquid gold leaf has a much smoother look, but I really love the texture of the regular gold leaf! And the copper leaf against pale pink or navy paper? DREAMY.

Pastels pair well with just about everything, but these gift tags look particularly fantastic when paired with metallic ribbon or twine. Let’s make some!

Supplies

Fiskars Hexagon Squeeze Punch (Extra Large)

Fiskars Standard Tag Maker with Built-in Eyelet Setter

Fiskars Original Orange Handled Scissors

Pastel card stock

Gold and copper leaf

Metallic ribbon or baker’s twine

To make the hexagon gift tags:

Step 1. Cut sheets of cover weight card stock into 3″ squares, then punch the hexagon shape from those squares using the Fiskars Hexagon Squeeze Punch. Create a small hole for ribbon and twine using the built-in eyelet setter of the Fiskars Standard Tag Maker. You can even keep the little eyelet circles to use as confetti!

Step 2. Cover your workspace with a protective layer of kraft paper or newsprint, and follow package instructions to apply the gold and copper leaf. This usually involves applying a thin layer of gilding adhesive, allowing it to dry until clear and tacky, applying a small sheet of metallic leaf, then brushing off the excess metallic leaf with a clean brush. I wanted the gift tags to look like the gold and copper leaf was casually painted onto the paper – so we intentionally freehanded the adhesive and liquid leaf application and dry brushed the adhesive so that we wouldn’t get full coverage across the paper. You could also use washi tape to tape off one side of the gift tag for a gold-dipped look.

Step 3. Write the name of your gift recipient on the gift tag using pens with metallic ink or bright colors, tie the gift tag to the package using metallic ribbon or baker’s twine, and voila!

Indigo Watercolor and Gold Foil Wedding Invitations

Woah! I’m absolutely loving the vibrant indigo watercolor on these wedding invitations from Alex of Goodheart Design! I’m used to seeing pale watercolor washes on wedding invitations and save the dates, and this deep indigo is so pretty paired with the shiny gold foil and Alex’s signature hand lettering! And each piece was individually hand painted, so no two are alike!

From Alex: Alisha and Spencer are a super fun couple recently married in Los Angeles. Alisha has been a close friend (even roommate!) for a while now, so it was even more exciting getting to work on this invitation with a friend! Not only did the wedding have a modern/vintage/boho style, but the wedding venue was super eclectic and homey. They got married at Big Daddy’s Antique Shop in Los Angeles and the venue was filled with amazing one of kind pieces from old school neon signs to vintage tables and mismatched designer chairs.

The wedding had a very easy going neutral vibe going on. Alisha and Spencer wanted to portray that vibe through their invitations, along with some bold indigo watercolor, which was sprinkled throughout the wedding as well. The invitations feature hand lettering mixed with modern text and hand painted watercolor. They had everyone RSVP online, so we made a fun extra piece explaining how to do that. The main invitations were printed in gold foil and the extra piece was letterpress printed, both by Czar Press.

We had the main invitation printed on 220# paper so that the paper wouldn’t warp when the watercolor was added after printing. I hand watercolored each invitation with indigo watercolor, giving each invitation it’s own unique style.

Seasonal Stationery: Gorgeous Gift Wrap

Gift wrap is one of my favorite things any time of year, but especially during the holidays! And there are just so many gorgeous gift wrap patterns to choose from! I like to pick a different wrapping paper theme each holiday season, picking a few favorite colors and patterns within that theme to mix and match. This year I’m finding myself drawn to darker colors mixed with metallic accents, classic black and white with pops of red, and light pink and peach tones. When it comes to patterns, I can never resist a pretty floral, but I’m also loving some of the more organic and hand painted patterns this year. Or how about simple stripes and polka dots mixed with calligraphy gift wrap? Here are twelve favorite wrapping papers for the holiday season!
