Best of 2015: Wedding Invitations

Oh So Beautiful Paper: The Best of 2015 / Calligraphy by Cast Calligraphy

Before we jump into brand new posts for the new year, I always like to take a look back and revisit some of my favorite posts from the past year. Asking me to pick a favorite wedding invitation from the year is like asking me to pick a favorite child – I truly love them all! A round up of the best wedding invitations of 2015 could have easily included 20+ images, or basically every single invitation I had the pleasure of featuring in 2015. But don’t worry, I exercised a bit of restraint when pulling this recap together. 2015 definitely saw a continued focus on shiny metallic foil and whimsical watercolor washes, with plenty of calligraphy and hand lettering along the way. It’s fun to see similar techniques applied to different wedding invitation styles and aesthetics, from classic to rustic to modern. Here are a few wedding invitations from 2015 that stuck out from the crowd – I can’t wait to see what those talented stationers cook up in 2016! I’m personally hoping for (and looking forward to) lots more tropical-inspired invitation suites in 2016!

New Year’s Eve Party Printables

True story: this entire post was inspired by a trip down the snacks aisle of my local grocery store. I have a MAJOR weakness for Rice Krispies Treats and couldn’t resist picking up a box while ostensibly shopping for the more appropriate items on my list. But I got to thinking about New Year’s Eve and how I always want a sweet post-midnight snack, so I thought I’d combine a few of my favorite items into a cute favor bag with a printable label that you can hand out to your guests on New Year’s Eve! Plus, Lauren created a beautiful fill-in card for you and your guests to record your New Year’s resolutions, giving us a perfect trio of New Year’s Eve party printables. Just add in some champagne (or a couple of signature cocktails) and you’ve got everything you need for a fantastic fête on New Year’s Eve!

I also found some travel size bottles of pain reliever tablets at the grocery store, and it seemed like a good idea to toss one of those into the favor bags for any friends that might, ahem, find themselves with a bit of a headache the next day. But pain reliever labels aren’t the cutest thing in the world, so I created a little label to use instead. You can find both printable labels for download below!

To make the New Year’s resolutions card, just download the template here and print onto text weight or cover weight letter-sized paper. Use a paper trimmer to cut the printed paper into quarters. So easy!

To make the favor bags:

Step 1. Download the printable favor bag label template here, and print onto text weight or cover weight letter-sized paper in the color of your choice. Cut out each individual label using scissors or a paper trimmer. If you like, you can add a bit of sparkle to your labels using a metallic gold paint pen.

Step 2. Attach the label to your favor bag (mine are from the Sugar Paper collection for Target!) using washi tape. Fill with some of your favorite treats, a travel size bottle of pain reliever tablets (you can find a cute label for the travel size bottles here), and perhaps a bit of sparkly confetti, and set them out for guests to grab on their way home!

Finding The Paper: Boboli

During a busy season filled with packing, wrapping and shipping (not to mention parties) I welcome the brief lull of holiday festivities within the sample studio. I need those moments to recalibrate and get back into my favorite routines. It was during one of those reprieves that I came upon the brand refresh of Vancouver’s luxury boutique, Boboli. In this installment of Finding the Paper, we’ll see how Glasfurd & Walker updated and unified a brand through the use of its paper and print techniques. – Jill of Parse & Parcel

Finding the Paper: Boboli / Oh So Beautiful Paper

Established in 1985 and situated in Vancouver’s South Granville Shopping District, Boboli is a luxury boutique known for its exquisite collection of clothing and accessories for women and men. The team at Glasfurd & Walker were tasked with updating the existing brand across an extensive number of touch points including packaging, stationery and signage as well as some bespoke interior elements.

Glasfurd & Walker drew inspiration for the design from the original logo (which had the building in it and had been in existence since their launch in 1985), with an updated more modern typographic system featuring a classic, minimalist sensibility to compliment the many brands that Boboli showcases.

All of the print elements are unified in look and feel, with the logo and crest featuring a stunning a gold foil stamp. The letterhead, business cards, thank you notes and envelopes are all printed offset on Classic Linen Recycled 100 Bright White stock with Pantone 405 as the flood of gray or type.

The business cards are actually two 80# Cover sheets laminated together to create a custom duplex sheet, lending some nice heft and stature to reinforce the brand’s classic style. The letterhead follows suit, using 100# Text as the paper stock, imparting a feel of importance coupled with the tactile hand of the linen finish.

The minimalist design lends itself beautifully to the print techniques and papers selected, the gold foil of the crest on the envelope makes one do double take, closely resembling engraving. The stationery suite is a great example of how minimal paper specifications paired with the right print production techniques can have maximum impact on a project.
