Wildflower Wedding Invitations from An Lim

With spring right around the corner, I’ve been craving bright and vibrant color in any form. These wildflower wedding invitations from Vanessa An Lim are so perfect for spring and summer, with tons of saturated color and whimsical illustrations. So cheerful!

From Vanessa: As a former event planner, I have worked with many brides who wanted more than a two color palette for their weddings. They wanted something festive, colorful, and whimsical. I created this invitation so they could have fun with color. Something they could match with vibrant accents like paper flowers in an array of colors, mismatched china, or more organic accents like wood and simple greenery.

Constellation Wedding Invitations by Moontree Letterpress

I’ve been slightly obsessed with anything constellation-related for a while now (evidence here and here), so I was seriously excited when I saw this beautiful new constellation wedding invitation in the Heritage Collection from Rebecca of Moontree Letterpress. Rebecca was inspired by the ceiling of Grand Central Station (hands down one of the most beautiful places in New York City), collaborating with Philadelphia designer Ed Brogna to create this beautiful star-filled invitation in her clean and classic design style.

From Rebecca: With Spring just around the corner, wedding invitation season is upon us once again. This year at Moontree we’ve added some new designs to the wedding invitation collection, inspired by the things that capture our imaginations and interests. Again this year I have teamed up with Philadelphia designer Ed Brogna to expand the Heritage Collection, which focuses on elements of the great outdoors, classic American design, typographical trends and vintage graphics.

Our new Constellation design came from our walk through one of my favorite places in New York, Grand Central Station. The entire ceiling of the main terminal hall features a breathtaking map of the night sky. And if that wasn’t special enough, the artist positioned the constellations so they read in reverse, in order for us to see the stars “as God would.”  I’ve always loved that.

Baby Emily’s Whimsical Typography Birth Announcements

I’m absolutely thrilled to share these adorable baby announcements today, in part because I actually had the pleasure of meeting this darling baby at NYIGF back in January! Shelley from Albertine Press welcomed her second daughter, Emily, in early October. I absolutely love the fold-out design that she came up with for Emily’s announcements, and how sweet is the photo of Emily with her big sister??

From Shelley: I was hugely inspired by a lot of the wedding invitation work I’ve been doing lately in designing her card, both the typography as well as the accordion tri-fold, which allowed me to create a splash quote on the face, include a photo in a printed frame, and finally the welcome message. I love the idea of unfolding a piece to keep discovering more.

The announcement design has a lot of personal significance to our whole family; besides being about love, the Einstein quote on the face has always been one of my favorites, and is especially perfect since my husband is also a physicist.

On the face is an E which is actually an ampersand. Though no “and” appears in the quote, it fit to include it as both a reference to her name (Emily), Einstein, and the fact that we’d added her to the family. We letterpress printed the suite in dusty magenta (a nod to big sister Sadie’s absolute favorite color pink) and charcoal gray ink. The announcements were completed with slate gray envelopes which I addressed in white ink. The hardest part was picking out which picture to use.

We don’t do many birth announcements in the studio, but I couldn’t have been more thrilled with how these came out. I owe a huge thanks to my super-fabulous production team at Albertine Press, who not only created this amazing piece (and all of the rest of the work we do!) but also welcome Emily into the studio every day.

Natalie + Paul’s Southern Magnolia Wedding Invitations

We had the most gorgeous weekend here in DC, and with spring just around the corner these magnolia wedding invitations from Brynne at Harken Press seem like the perfect way to start off the week! Created for a spring wedding in Baton Rouge, Brynne drew her inspiration from both the season and the wedding venue, with a sunny yellow color palette and beautiful vintage stamps.

From Brynne: Natalie and Paul are getting married this spring at a charming southern plantation called Magnolia Mound in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The magnolia blossom reoccurs throughout their wedding stationery as a symbol of spring and the venue. I really wanted to capture Natalie and Paul’s creative personalities and the mood of their quaint outdoor southern wedding. My inspiration was Gone With The Wind meets happy spring colors.

Natalie and Paul both have Masters degrees in historical preservation from the College of Charleston in South Carolina, where they met. The vintage stamps that Natalie collected for the postage are a perfect combination of Louisiana and South Carolina landmarks, as well as the couple’s love of architecture and literature. One of their favorite quotes, “Be silly, be honest, be kind.” by Ralph Waldo Emerson is attached to the twine that holds the suite together. I also illustrated the map of Baton Rouge to highlight some of the unique parts of the city, and of course the wedding venue.

The wedding invitation was letterpress printed, while the rest of the suite and save the dates were digitally printed. A great compromise for letterpress lovers on a budget!

{happy weekend!}

So I have big news: we finally bought a house! You may remember that we’ve been hunting since early December, and after a few unsuccessful offers we’re finally under contract on a cute little rowhouse – we move in just a couple of weeks! We’re just a wee bit stressed out trying to make arrangements for the move and some minor house repairs that need to be done after we close, and of course pack up our entire apartment (ugh), so if things seem kind of erratic for the next few weeks I hope you’ll bear with me! But even with the stress of a move, I can’t wait to start making our new house our own, starting with a fresh coat of paint in every single room. Yay! But in the meantime…
