Crystal + Jason’s Red and White Retro Wedding Invitations

I love the versatility of the color red. Dress it up for a classic winter wedding invitation, or down for a picnic-inspired summer wedding. Today we have a set of fun red and black vintage-inspired invitations from Mary at Real Mart. Originally created for the wedding of Real Mart print designer Crystal Dennis, the invitations feature lots of swirls, flourishes, and playful polka dots!

From Mary: Crystal is a print designer here at Real Art. One of our favorites of her designs is the retro invitation suite that she designed for her very own wedding! It has a classic retro theme filled with polka dots, swirls, and curly Qs. It features custom bird and index illustrations, polka dot ribbon and paper, a cute little hang tag, and red envelopes. The invitations were letterpress printed on off-white paper with red and black ink.

Crystal’s wedding reception was held at America’s Packard Museum, an automotive museum filled with beautiful vintage cars! The reception also featured a rockabilly band for some “Real Retro” entertainment.

{happy weekend!}

Sigh. Week two of this ridiculous government shutdown. And the more I listen to the news, the angrier I get. So! Time for distractions! Last weekend, we hopped into the car for a spontaneous trip to the mountains. We were only gone for a couple of days, but it was nice to get away from DC – and even more nice to see some real fall foliage. And this weekend, Paper Camp is in DC! I’m so excited to see some of my fellow panelists and meet the new students! But in the meantime…

Galina + Lee’s Timeless Typography-Inspired Wedding Invitations

When it came time to design the invitations for her own wedding, Australia-based designer Galina Dixon drew inspiration from one of her passions – typography! Galina created a classic design based on interlocking typography flourishes. The suite was letterpress printed in raspberry red ink and paired with recycled paper envelopes and rustic twine. Lovely!

From Galina: Being a passionate typographer, the pressure was on to create uniquely elegant invitations when it came time for my own wedding. Our wedding had a white and raspberry colour theme matched with raw recycled paper texture and twine throughout. I designed invitations that focused on the beautifully interlinking typography of our names, while paring back all other information. Oh, and I had them letterpress printed of course!

Lindsy + Eric’s Hot Pink and Navy Floral Wedding Invitations

For her cousin’s wedding this past may, designer Kate Holgate was inspired by the garden reception location to create these beautiful floral wedding invitations! The design features classic navy and white for the main invitation, with vibrant watercolor flowers throughout the suite. Absolutely gorgeous!

From Kate: Lindsy is my cousin and I was thrilled when she got engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Eric. They are an amazing couple. Lindsy and Eric were married in May at a formal Catholic church in Connecticut. The ceremony was followed by a gorgeous reception in a garden. When designing their invitations, I wanted to capture the beauty of springtime flowers….floral watercolors punctuated every piece.

Paired with navy, sophisticated type and textured felt paper, the suite was elegant and classy. Eric plays hockey so we even subtly incorporated some symbolism in their monogram. Their wedding could not have been a more perfect occasion. They are now expecting their first baby in February, so more happy occasions are ahead!

Jacqueline + Florian’s Screen Printed Tea Towel Save the Dates

What do you do when two foodies plan a destination wedding in Italy? Send out tea towel save the dates! Becca from Suite Paperie printed the recipe-inspired design onto red and white tea towels, then finished the whole thing off with some striped baker’s twine and airmail-inspired mailing labels. Love love love!

From Becca: Big-time foodies Jacqueline and Florian came to me for a unique save the date. They wanted to give a nod to their love of cooking and food, while also playing into the vintage atmosphere of their upcoming wedding in Piedmont, Italy.

We came up with the perfect recipe for love, sharing bits and pieces of their lives together, their dating history and hopes for the future. This practical and fun save the date was folded and tied together with baker’s twine and a custom monogrammed tag. We then placed the towel inside a white square box and sealed with an airmail-inspired address label to be mailed to guests around the globe.
