Sneak Peek: Martha Stewart Spring 2013 Issue!

As you could probably tell from yesterday’s cherry blossom post, I’m kind of anxious for spring to arrive. And now I have another reason to look forward to spring – the new issue of Martha Stewart Weddings is about to hit! It just so happens that the spring issue is my favorite of the year: the Color Issue!

The issue includes everything from a delicately engraved invitation by Smythson to a simple suite from Minted, stationery that perfectly combines the elegant calligraphy of Bernard Maisner and the custom heraldry of Happy Menocal, a vibrant watercolored set by Julie Song Ink, calligraphed escort cards by Nancy Hopkins, a pastel pink letterpress suite by Two Paper Dolls, and a punchy suite from Cheree Berry. Plus plenty of downloadable clip art so you can put your own spin on things.

Keep an eye out for the new issue soon!

Seasonal Stationery: Cherry Blossoms

A lovely reader wrote in yesterday requesting a round up of cherry blossom stationery, and of course I was happy to oblige… but now they’re all I can think about! I’m starting to see the first daffodils and crocus pop up around DC, so hopefully the cherry blossoms (and spring!) won’t be too far behind. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy this round up of cherry blossom cards and invitations!

Paper Dress Inspiration from Paper Posy Designs

I love paper in all forms, and it can be so inspiring to see all the different ways that paper can be used and transformed into works of art. Enter Liz – the artist behind Paper Posy Designs and also the store manager + window display artist at the fabulous Gus & Ruby Letterpress boutique in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Liz was inspired by one of her window display creations to pull together a full inspirational shoot around two seriously amazing paper dresses, along with gorgeous invitations and table decor!

From Liz: This paper dress shoot was an opportunity for me to meld two elements that constantly inspire me: fashion design and art installation. I originally designed a dress made out of flower petals from 100% post-consumer recycled cardstock for a window display at the incredible Gus & Ruby Letterpress boutique.

Customers asked whether or not the dress could be worn. For weeks, I laughed off the concept because I wouldn’t be able to staple a paper dress onto a real life model as I had done to the dressform! I was later inspired by the challenge that type of project would be for me… and so, production began. After cutting and forming hundreds of thousands of little individual paper petals, and scheming up a tablescape with white on white as the main theme, I pulled together a group of vendors to flesh out the shoot with stationery, flowers, and even a few cakes!

I spent about two months producing the paper dresses that each model wore, and the satisfaction of seeing them climb into their respective garb the day of the shoot was more than I could take. It was such a fun project!

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone! It may have been a short week, but it was busy busy busy over here. Lots of planning for the 2013 Paper Party (yay!) during the National Stationery Show in May and a new special (but currently top secret) project that I can’t wait to share with you! Oh, and some not-so-fun tasks, too, like our 2012 taxes and trying to navigate the world of homeowner insurance quotes. But really, nothing makes me feel better than getting things done, particularly when the length of my to do list was starting to freak me out! Now I get to actually enjoy the weekend and spend time with my sweet little girl. But in the meantime…

Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Colorfully Illustrated Menus

So I’ve talked a lot in the past about black and white day-of wedding stationery because, really, can you go wrong with that combination!? But today, prepare for a full on color-fest! An illustrated color-fest, to be exact. I’m a sucker for illustration, especially when it’s whimsical and colorful. While you may have already considered it for your wedding invitations, have you thought about added a little hand-drawn or watercolored detail to your wedding menus? You will after this!  — Kelly
