{happy weekend!}

As much as I grumble about housing prices and other various DC-related headaches, this week reminded me of how much I really do love my city. We took Sophie to the Natural History Museum for the first time, mostly on a whim and only about an hour before it closed, but the museum was practically empty and it was so perfect. We enjoyed the live butterfly pavilion, but she really loved the gemstone exhibit â€“ and who can blame her? Sparkly things in bright colors? Perfect for babies! Our afternoon at the museum made me even more excited for spring and summer, when we can do more outdoor things with Sophie. But in the meantime…

Veronique + Benjamin’s Multilingual Coral and Gold Foil Wedding Invitations

I’m absolutely fascinated by the many, many languages in the world, and I love the idea of picking up a few key phrases when traveling to a foreign country â€“ so I absolutely love the multilingual inspiration behind these beautiful invitations from Melinda and Dave at Lion in the Sun. Working with the design team at Bella Figura, they came up with a text-driven design featuring the phrase “I love you” in the languages of all the countries where the bride and groom have traveled, all letterpress printed in the lovely color combo of coral and gold foil.

From Melinda and Dave: Travel enthusiasts in love, Veronique and Benjamin have incorporated “I love you” in languages from all the countries they have traveled to into this invitation, highlighted with whimsical graphics for their Quebec wedding. The pieces are punched up with gold foil, coral ink, and kraft envelopes, making for a warm, rustic, but oh so modern suite.

NYIGF Winter 2013, Part 3

Today is the final day of the NYIGF Winter 2013 market, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it is impossible to see everything in the entire show during the five-day run. Impossible! I’m still going through photos taken over the last few days, but I have a few more stationer booths to share with you today! First up, the colorful gift wrap and stationery at Smudge Ink; that hot pink zebra pattern is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorites!

Kathryn from Blackbird Letterpress and Rachael from Pistachio Press shared a booth this year, which meant tons of pretty paper eye candy in one space. I love Kathryn’s die cut animal cards and her new typewriter collection â€“ too cute! Rachael’s side of the booth was full of fun color, from greeting cards to notebooks to letterpress prints.

Next up, the shared booth of Shelley from Albertine Press, Kelly of May Day Studio, and Angela of Carta, Inc. Angela added some lovely new ribbon and twine colors to her collection along with a beautiful measuring tape, while Kelly debuted a new gift wrap pattern in two additional colors (teal and indigo) along with some fun coasters. Shelley added some new cities to her letterpress city card libraries (along with a nautical pattern!) and notebook collections.

I love the clean modern style at Poketo, reflected in everything from pens to iPhone cases to tea towels. I think my favorite this year were the sweet gold foil planner notebooks, with an open date system to give flexibility when planning your goals for the year!

NYIGF Winter 2013, Part 1

Okay! Today we’re jumping into coverage from the Winter 2013 New York International Gift Fair, and there’s a LOT to see from this show. I skipped the Summer 2012 show since I was at the very end of my pregnancy, so I had a lot of catching up to do at this show. I can’t wait to show you all of my favorites! First up, the absolutely packed Crow & Canary booth, which was representing several fantastic stationery lines like Dear Hancock, Sapling Press, and Smock. I was really impressed with one of the newest additions, Ashkahn, which had a bunch of sweet cards printed in fun bright colors and gold foil. So much to see!

Ebony from Snow & Graham always has the most amazing and creative displays. Just look at that fantastic map using Snow & Graham gift wrap sheets! I adore all of those beautiful floral patterns.

The team from Rifle Paper Co. has been very busy over the last few months, debuting a bunch of new items at this show â€“ from new cards and calendars to beautiful tin recipe boxes to iPhone cases! Anna even made sure to create a version of the iPhone case with an extra thick rubber border for those of us prone to dropping our phones.

{happy weekend!}

I’m beginning to suspect that I’m coming down with a case of the winter blues, which definitely isn’t helped by the lack of progress in our house hunt. So I’m actually really excited to break up our routine this weekend â€“ we’re heading to New York City for a few days! My husband and Sophie are coming along, so I’ll be attending the New York International Gift Fair and serving as a judge for the Louie Awards during the day and then meeting back up with them later in the afternoon. We’re taking the train (my favorite way to travel from DC to NYC), so right now I’m trying to figure out how on earth I’m going to fit all of our clothes and baby gear into a reasonable amount of luggage. Next week I’ll report back with some of my favorites from NYIGF! But in the meantime…
