Colorful Watercolor Crest Wedding Invitations

When I think about summer, I think of bright, vibrant colors and bold patterns (ideally of the fruit or floral variety). I’m loving these colorful watercolor crest wedding invitations from Sandy of Roseville Designs (one of our fantastic Designer Rolodex members!), whcih feature beautiful summery tones and a vibrant floral envelope liner. The custom watercolor crest is both whimsical and elegant, and the watercolor floral details throughout the suite are the perfect burst of summer color!

From Sandy: I am so excited to share Melissa and Andy’s colorful watercolor crest wedding invitations! I love doing watercolor wedding crests because they can be used for not only invitations, but day-of wedding stationery, too! The beauty of a custom crest is you can take the elements of the crest and use them for designing the other paper elements.

For Melissa and Andy, I created a watercolor wedding crest incorporating greens, blues, pinks, and peaches to celebrate their bright, summer wedding along the Connecticut shoreline. Since we knew we wanted to use a calligraphy-style font for the names, we used a more formal serif font for their initials inside the shield of the crest. The finishing touch were the rich green vines on the bottom.

I used elements from the watercolor crest in the rest of the suite, with different pieces of the floral and greenery on the RSVP card, reception card, and details card. Then I took florals from the crest and enlarged them for a bright and happy custom envelope liner! I knew this detail would put a big smile on the faces of their wedding guests when they opened the envelope.

The final piece was a custom wax seal incorporating the monogram from the crest. This was placed on the outside of the envelope. I used a sea foam green wax to give it a soft feel. I love using wax seals in my suites because they give texture to design, and we all know invitations are a tactile experience!

The entire suite was digitally printed on thick smooth white stock, to allow us unlimited flexibility with colors for the entire suite. This also allowed us to allocate more of her wedding invitation budget to additional pieces, like the envelope liner and wax seal. The result was an invitation suite that is romantic, timeless, and sets the tone for her elegant wedding celebration.

In addition to rebranding her calligraphy business, originally named Silver Fox Calligraphy, Ciarra Claire also opened an online paper shop with art prints called Plein Air Paperie. She shares, “I am most excited about recently rebranding and standing on my own as an artist, and being able to offer a fine art paperie online to a wider audience beyond wedding stationery.”

What inspires Ciarra? She finds inspiration in classic calligraphy, such as copperplate. “But I love the casual look of hand writing, such as the little notes you find inside old book covers,” says Ciarra. “And I try to blend historical calligraphy technique with organic movement. I love old hand written letters and the calligraphy notes on vintage botanical prints.” Here’s a peek at one of her art prints:

Ciarra chose the name Plein Aire Paperie because the pieces are inspired by historical artwork and vintage prints. And she notes that they are also designed to be displayed “en plain air” free standing or in a floating frame to show the pretty deckled edges. “They come with a tag about the line and a little black card to write a short note to your loved one and a blind embossed envelope,” she shares.

Thanks to Ciarra for sharing all the many things she’s working on! You can also find her on Instagram and see more of her work in the Designer Rolodex!

Navy and White Modern Eclectic Wedding Invitations

These navy and white modern eclectic wedding invitations from Camille of Robinson Paperie combine clean, modern lines inspired by the wedding venue SoDo Park with playful brush lettering on the envelopes! I love the way Camille translated the industrial cement floors and exposed air ducts into an elegant invitation design. The white brush lettering on navy envelopes and gold wax seals are the perfect finishing touches for this suite!

From Camille: I actually had the pleasure of knowing the bride and groom before I started working with them. We all attended the same college and that is where Patrick and Tana met for the first time many years ago! We started Patrick and Tana’s design process by trying to incorporate the look and feel of their wedding venue, SoDo Park. A downtown Seattle venue known for its modern eclectic style, cement floors, and high vaulted ceilings with exposed ducting. It is a lovely venue that doesn’t need a lot of extra decor to feel dark and romantic but modern and elegant at the same time.

I knew that I had to make something bold and beautiful, but also not let it feel like it was overpowering you with too much color or too many soft touches. Their wedding was in the spring, but aside from the time of year, the bride didn’t want to do anything with the traditional florals and watercolor she had been seeing.

So we went on ahead with using the venue as inspiration. With its traditional finishes we stuck with clean lines, lots of white space and one of my favorite fonts of all times, Valencia. Everything was digitally printed on Crane Lettra’s Ecru White. The matte finish of the suite, mixed with a bold geometric pattern of the response card really captured the overall theme and feeling the couple was going for.

The navy guest envelope was finished with a cream brush lettering and an antique gold wax seal which added a touch of whimsy to the whole suite. We also added a rehearsal dinner invitation that mimicked the invitation suite. Overall, the bride and groom were very pleased with how everything came together and felt like it captured their look and feel perfectly!
