Quick Pick: Cheree Berry for Target

Every time I walk into Target these days, it seems like there is an amazing new collaboration with one of my favorite designers! First Oh Joy and Sugar Paper, now Thimblepress and Cheree Berry Paper! My love for Cheree Berry Paper goes all the way back to my wedding planning days 9-ish years ago (gulp!), when I first discovered Cheree’s custom wedding invitation and save the date designs – and is still going strong today. The Cheree Berry collection for Target includes a bunch of fun wedding and baby stationery, including cute fill-in baby shower invitations and announcements, thank you cards, shower games, wedding chargers, napkins, chair signs, and some seriously cute paper straws. Here are a few favorites from the collection!

Trendspotting: Vellum Inspiration!

It’s still relatively early in 2017, but I already have a favorite trend for this year: Vellum! If you aren’t familiar with this gorgeous translucent material, vellum is a semi-transparent paper made from rag or plasticized cotton and is often used in applications where tracing is involved. But vellum is seriously beautiful in its own right, especially when combined with elegant calligraphy and wax seals. You can also run a vellum sheet through a regular home printer! Vellum comes in a variety of shades, from traditional translucent white to pale pink, lavender, aqua – even iridescent and opalescent! Vellum is one of my current favorite stationery trends, along with deckled edges and all things iridescent/hologram, but I realized I hadn’t featured a ton of vellum inspiration here. So I put out a call for stationers and calligraphers to share their images via email and the #osbpvellum hashtag, and I’m sharing a few of my favorites with you today!

Rustic Succulent-Inspired Gray and Green Wedding Invitations

A rustic gray and green color palette. Nature-inspired textures. Beautiful brush hand lettering throughout. Gina of Eleven and West created these rustic succulent-inspired gray and green wedding invitations for a summer wedding in the Pacific Northwest. Gina stuck to a simple color palette to allow the natural hand lettering and stunning engagement pictures to shine through, and incorporated the bride’s love of succulents throughout the invitation suite. And seriously, how gorgeous are those brush lettered kraft paper envelopes??

From Gina: When designing Dustin and Denny’s wedding invitations, Dustin really left a lot of creative freedom to me. She did mention that she loved succulents and was going to be incorporating those into her wedding day and would like to see them in her wedding invitations, too. We worked to create a natural and simple design that went along with her other wedding elements.

I love incorporating engagement photos into invitation suites, I think it adds an even more personal touch for wedding invitations to really make them unique and special. When she sent over these gorgeous photos from Annamae Photo, I knew we had to incorporate them somehow! We actually ended up using two of them in the suite!

We incorporated hand lettering into every piece of this invitation suite, with gray watercolor swashes as accents and small watercolor succulents. The lettering style is using my natural hand, nothing tight or too formal in its overall look. The kraft paper envelopes further incorporated that natural and earthy feel. I hand lettered all of her guest addresses in white paint and we had her return address printed on the flap with a small succulent design.

With wedding websites being so popular, we added a detail card that pointed guests to their wedding website for all of their information. We added another engagement photos on the back of it and I incorporated a hand lettered overlay of their names to add a graphic touch to their suite. We kept the RSVP simple with just a white card and light gray hand lettering and we printed a small watercolor detail along the bottom.

A piece of twine helped tie the invitation suite all together. This adds not only a more tangible aspect to the piece but also builds on the overall texture of the suite. Overall, we kept everything simple with a personal and natural feel to the suite.

Seasonal Stationery: Easter Cards

Can you believe it’s almost April?! Along with the eager anticipation of spring (flowers! warmth! allergies!), it’s time to celebrate the first holiday of the season: Easter! Whether your personal celebration skews more religious or more towards the chocolate (or both!), we’ve collected a handful of cheerful Easter greeting cards to share. Let the bunny onslaught begin! â€“Shauna

Seasonal Stationery: Easter Card Round Up

From top right:

1. If the elegant calligraphy doesn’t do it for you, the striped foil liner certainly will. The die cut egg shape is the clincher. From Sugar Paper.

2. This super adorable bunny employs neon details and an overprinting letterpress technique to achieve the perfect level of cuteness. From Hello!Lucky.

3. With three color letterpress plus gold foil, this Wild Ink Press nest design is a real bang for your buck.

4. Wild Hart Paper uses a clever reverse out design and pretty hand lettering to celebrate this annual rite of spring.

5. With so many bunnies out there, aren’t you glad to see a chicken? Illustrated and designed by North Carolina-based Wit & Whistle.

6. This sweetly illustrated bunny from Gingiber is actually a downloadable greeting card. Load up some nice card stock and you are good to go!

7. This engorged bunny clearly enjoyed his easter candy a little TOO much (those peeps can be rather addicting). Illustrated by Barbara Dziadosz for Red Cap Cards.

8. Finally, some much-needed vegetables! This sweet watercolor illustration comes courtesy of E. Frances Paper.

9. I’m pretty envious of Dear Hancock’s stellar egg decorating skills. The cute bunny paw doesn’t hurt either.

10. Cleverly entitled ‘Easter Egg Hunt’, this Fugu Fugu Press design features not one, but six eggs, two bunnies, and two singing birds letterpress printed in three colors.

12. One of my favorites in this mix is this lovely rose gold foil printed design from Bespoke Press.

13. Idlewild Co.’s take on this holiday includes hand painted Ukranian inspired eggs in a modern color palate.

14. Not a bunny or egg in sight from this modern take on the holiday by Ferme A Papier.

DIY Hologram Galaxy Easter Eggs

Happy Monday everyone! Today I’m excited to share my first Easter egg tutorial of the season – DIY Hologram Galaxy Easter Eggs! I loved the marbled hologram pumpkins that I made back in October, and I was excited to apply the hologram marbling concept to Easter eggs. When marbled, the hologram nail polish takes on a galaxy-like quality that I absolutely LOVE, especially against a dark background. And they’re super sparkly, which my daughters both love. So fun!

DIY Hologram Galaxy Easter Eggs

I mean, what’s not to love about shimmery rainbow sparkles on an Easter egg? I knew I wanted to use the hologram nail polish against a super dark color, so I decided to make things easy for myself and marble a few black plastic chalkboard Easter eggs. You could also paint regular hard boiled eggs with black craft paint or chalkboard paint! I tried mixing a few different types of glittery hologram and iridescent nail polish together, and while it still worked, I found that I got the best results when I stuck to just a few drops of a single nail polish color. Each egg only takes a few drops of nail polish and a few seconds to make – so easy!

To make the DIY hologram galaxy Easter eggs:

Step 1. Fill a disposable plastic container with lukewarm water. The container should be slightly wider than an egg and deep enough to cover the entire egg in water (I used a grande size plastic Starbucks cup!).

Step 2. Drizzle a few drops of nail polish in curvy circular patterns. Wait a few seconds for the hologram glitter nail polish to naturally disperse over the surface of the water. Wearing disposable gloves, dip the egg into the water and twirl it all the way around before removing from the water.

Step 3. Set the egg on a sheet of wax paper to dry. The nail polish actually dries REALLY fast, so you can usually pat the eggs with a paper towel to soak up any excess water.

Step 4. Use a toothpick, stir stick, or disposable utensil to remove any excess nail polish from the water. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for all the remaining eggs!

Can you tell I’m just totally obsessed with these hologram Easter eggs? I’m so excited to add these hologram galaxy eggs to our Easter egg hunt this year! I hope you’ll try making some, too!
