Quick Pick: Heather Smith Jones

I’ve been a fan of the original artwork from Heather Smith Jones for a long, long time – I loved her pinhole series from a few years back – and I’m loving this new series of limited edition floral watercolor prints. Nasturtiums and zinnias, perfect summer floral inspiration!

{happy weekend!}

I’m heading out to spend the long holiday weekend with my family. Sophie’s first fireworks! And I’m looking forward to our annual tradition of visiting George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate on the Fourth of July. I wish you all a very happy Independence Day! I’ll be popping back in on Friday afternoon with a summer cocktail recipe, so check back for that in a couple of days! In the meantime…

Trisha + Richard’s Arizona Sunset Wedding Invitations

I received the sweetest email from Caroline of Lovely Paper Things with an even sweeter wedding invitation for a couple that reconnected after 40 years apart! For their wedding invitations, Caroline combined their love of Arizona and aviation for a beautiful “Adventure in Love” theme – which was carried through to the wedding menus and seating cards. The design features an ombre watercolor pattern evoking the Arizona sunset, hand cut fringe on the invitation, and lots of pretty hand lettering.

From Caroline: From the very beginning, there was something magical about Trisha and Richard’s love story. The couple went to high school together, followed different paths but kept in touch, and over 40 years later they fell in love! (How neat is that?!!) They came to me looking for a whimsical wedding invitation. We decided that uniting their passion for aviation and  the welcoming Arizona vibe they love so much would create a marvelous “An Adventure In Love” theme to help them share their unique love story!

Their adventurous suite incorporated many elements of flight with a fresh and vibrant southwestern twist. The ombre watercolor background, inspired by the beautiful Arizona sunsets, the hand lettering, hand stamped tags, envelopes and hand cut fringe all exude Arizona’s cheerful spirit.

And oodles of hand painted illustrations of aviation aspects from compasses and mini tickets to pilot wings and birds eye view maps had their guests ready to celebrate the couple’s Adventure In Love!

Haley’s Romantic Floral + Lace Bridal Shower Invitations

These bridal shower invitations from Kara Anne Design combine three of my favorite things: beautiful calligraphy, kraft paper, and a colorful floral pattern. What could be better for a summer bridal shower in the South? I’m also loving the lace-inspired inner envelopes made from doilies. Such a sweet and feminine detail!

From Kara: For my life long friend, Haley, I wanted to create a beautiful and tasteful bridal shower invitation. The envelope liners are a custom watercolor painting that gave the invitation the perfect pop of color for a summer wedding.

The inner lace envelopes were hand made using paper doilies and silk ribbon that enclosed the invitation.

The invitation was printed on a bright white laid paper to add a little texture to the paper suite. For the final touch I used white calligraphy ink on kraft envelopes. The invitation set the tone for the party! For Haley’s special event, Lulu’s Cake Shop in Montgomery, Alabama created a delicious and beautiful cake that embodied exactly what I had in mind: lace and flowers!

We made a cake banner with kraft paper, little wooden sticks, and white calligraphy ink to match the invitation envelopes.
