Jaime + Anthony’s Modern Woodgrain Wedding Invitations

I love, love, love the texture in these beautiful woodgrain and overall nature-inspired wedding invitations from designer Kate Holgate. Kate’s clients Jaime and Anthony are planning an outdoor wedding in Sun Valley, Idaho and wanted an invitation that reflected the natural surroundings while preserving the elegance of the event. The entire suite just comes together perfectly – from the woodgrain elements to beautiful blind impression details to gorgeous typography to soft muslin bags.

From Kate: Jaime and Anthony are getting married outdoors in the beautiful historic Sun Valley, Idaho. Sun Valley is a laid back resort town surrounded by gorgeous mountains with numerous aspen groves. Jaime was open to ideas and only requested that I somehow tie in an ‘aspen’ theme.  Her wedding colors are coral and khaki, and I introduced teal to the invitation color palette.

The save the date cards have a tree ring timeline in blind letterpress showing important dates in Jaime and Anthony’s relationship.  For the invitation suite, I created a pattern that repeats the aspen leaf symbol (also blind letterpress), a wood grain texture, and used vintage-inspired typography.  Stamped muslin bags replaced the traditional inner envelope.  The overall result feels elegant and natural.

National Stationery Show 2011 – Part 9

Today we’re all about weddings – or at least wedding invitations – from the National Stationery Show.  Several designers had booths either wholly or largely devoted to wedding invitations and albums, and of course I was like a kid in a candy store gawking at such lovely wedding stationery.  After making her NSS debut last year, Meredith from Regas was back with a booth dedicated entirely to her new wedding invitation album.  I’m loving all of the little design details throughout the collection, from literary-inspired details to crisp blind emboss patterns and bright pops of color.

Love those pops of (almost-neon) peach!

The suite above was inspired by Victorian-era literature – so library chic!

The ladies over at The Lettered Olive also had a brand new and absolutely stunning wedding invitation album, with their signature blend of classic southern style and charm.

In addition to a gorgeous wedding album, they also had one of the coziest booths at the show… well, it was really more like a tent – look at that roof!

And please forgive my terrible photo, but I just can’t get over how cool this is – the entire wedding album comes on an iPad along with samples of the actual invitations contained in the album.  The ladies gave me a demonstration at the booth and it’s clear they’ve put a lot of thought, time, and effort into creating an album app that is both easy to navigate and contains a ton of beautiful invitation eye candy.  Well done ladies!

Avis from Avie Designs also premiered a brand new wedding invitation album, along with holiday cards, calendars, party accessories, and imprintable invitations perfect for a low key or last minute party.  My favorite invitation is the papel picado-inspired design based on the invitation from Avis’s own wedding a couple of years ago.

The team over at Twig + Fig are the masters of unique wedding and party invitations, including some awesome Bar and Bat Mitzvah invitations, incorporating non-traditional materials – from acrylic invitations to cork with gold foil.  So cool!

Amber from Flywheel Press had a beautiful booth – all chalkboard paint and hand drawn chalk decorations!  Seriously pretty – and full of lots of pretty paper, from wedding invitations to note cards.

Love the split fountain wedding invitations!

Flywheel Press

Jodi from Paisley Tree Press had a booth full of letterpress goodies – from note cards to calendars to coasters, but of course I was particularly smitten with the wedding invitations.  Red accents with a blind impression and letterpress calligraphy?  Yes, please!

Katrina from Paper Mill Designs sent over a sneak peek of the greeting cards making their debut at the show, but she also exhibited some fun and modern wedding invitations in her booth!

Of course you’ll remember the gorgeous new Dauphine Press wedding invitation album from the sneak peek last week – it was so great to see the full collection in person at the show!

The Gwyneth Paige Couture Letterpress booth was also full of pretty wedding invitations, along with a brand new Bar/Bat Mitzvah album!

{happy weekend!}

The big weekend is finally here – the Stationery Show starts on Sunday!  I head up to New York tomorrow and can’t wait to catch up with everyone at the show.  Speaking of the Stationery Show (which as of the last few days has been all the time, I know), I’ll be participating in a panel about the importance of written correspondence in the digital age.  I’d love to be able to share a few anecdotes from my readers, particularly why you enjoy sending and receiving stationery.  So if you have a few moments, please share your thoughts and help answer a few short questions right here!  But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

I’m planning a rare Saturday post so that I can share the photos from our trip to Italy, finally!  Have a wonderful weekend everyone! xoxo

National Stationery Show Recipe Card Scavenger Hunt

Designers often have cute little promotional items at trade shows, from tote bags to pencils to yummy snacks.  Not only do they help make trade shows even more fun, but if done correctly they can also be a fun memory for years after the show (like Lisa’s awesome tote bag from last year).  For this year’s Stationery Show, Amber from Flywheel Press has partnered up with 14 amazingly talented designers and Legion Paper to create this fun letterpress recipe card promo – sort of like a letterpress scavenger hunt at the Stationery Show!

From Amber at Flywheel Press: I love how people create calendars and other clever promotions for the Stationery Show.  But I wanted to do something a little different, something without a shelf life, something that celebrates the timeless art of letterpress printing.  The idea of the recipe card seemed to work hand in hand with celebrating the diversity and collaborative essence of the letterpress community.

If you happen to be attending the Stationery Show next week, don’t forget to collect each recipe card!  Here’s a list of all the participating companies and booth numbers:

Stationery Show Sneak Peek – Paper Mill Designs

The National Stationery Show is coming up in just a few days and I’m starting to get really excited for this year’s show.  It almost feels like Stationery Christmas – putting together my walking list of exhibitor booths and checking it twice!  Katrina from Paper Mill Designs sent over a quick sneak peek at some of the new designs that she’ll be exhibiting at the show (in booth #1966).  I can’t wait to see them in person!
