Deirdre’s Southern Charm Baby Shower Invitations

These baby shower invitations from Christa Alexandra are beyond cute. The new parents live in South Carolina, so Christa was inspired to incorporate a few southern details into the design, from a little bow tie to a seersucker pattern at the bottom of the invitation, all in a fresh mint green and charcoal gray color palette. So fun!

From Christa: I designed and printed this two-color letterpress baby shower invitation for the new mom of a little boy born in August. The family and friends organizing the party loved the idea of using mint and charcoal for the color palette.

The parents live in Charleston, South Carolina, so I brought in a few southern elements: a bow tie on the onesie, a little Ball jar with “Boy” written instead, and a seersucker pattern that lines the bottom of the invitation (and with letterpress it actually feels like seersucker). I used a light kraft envelope with wrap-around address labels to coordinate with the invitation. The invitation was printed on my Chandler & Price 1918 press.

Baby Emily’s Whimsical Typography Birth Announcements

I’m absolutely thrilled to share these adorable baby announcements today, in part because I actually had the pleasure of meeting this darling baby at NYIGF back in January! Shelley from Albertine Press welcomed her second daughter, Emily, in early October. I absolutely love the fold-out design that she came up with for Emily’s announcements, and how sweet is the photo of Emily with her big sister??

From Shelley: I was hugely inspired by a lot of the wedding invitation work I’ve been doing lately in designing her card, both the typography as well as the accordion tri-fold, which allowed me to create a splash quote on the face, include a photo in a printed frame, and finally the welcome message. I love the idea of unfolding a piece to keep discovering more.

The announcement design has a lot of personal significance to our whole family; besides being about love, the Einstein quote on the face has always been one of my favorites, and is especially perfect since my husband is also a physicist.

On the face is an E which is actually an ampersand. Though no “and” appears in the quote, it fit to include it as both a reference to her name (Emily), Einstein, and the fact that we’d added her to the family. We letterpress printed the suite in dusty magenta (a nod to big sister Sadie’s absolute favorite color pink) and charcoal gray ink. The announcements were completed with slate gray envelopes which I addressed in white ink. The hardest part was picking out which picture to use.

We don’t do many birth announcements in the studio, but I couldn’t have been more thrilled with how these came out. I owe a huge thanks to my super-fabulous production team at Albertine Press, who not only created this amazing piece (and all of the rest of the work we do!) but also welcome Emily into the studio every day.

Kristen’s Fly Fishing Inspired Baby Shower Invitations

Baby showers often revolve around traditionally feminine themes and color palettes, so these shower invitations from Elpitha of Print In Cursive are a nice and refreshing change of pace! With a fly fishing theme, Elpitha letterpress printed the invitations in a navy and gray color palette with kraft paper backing. Love!

{happy weekend!}

So I have big news: we finally bought a house! You may remember that we’ve been hunting since early December, and after a few unsuccessful offers we’re finally under contract on a cute little rowhouse – we move in just a couple of weeks! We’re just a wee bit stressed out trying to make arrangements for the move and some minor house repairs that need to be done after we close, and of course pack up our entire apartment (ugh), so if things seem kind of erratic for the next few weeks I hope you’ll bear with me! But even with the stress of a move, I can’t wait to start making our new house our own, starting with a fresh coat of paint in every single room. Yay! But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

We have a fun cocktail coming up for you this afternoon, so check back a bit later for the recipe!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday!  xoxo

Fletcher’s Simple and Scented Birth Announcements

I’ve heard of scented paper, but this is the first time I’ve seen baby powder scented paper! Lesley from Inclosed Studio used this subtly scented paper for her son Fletcher’s birth announcements, keeping the rest of the design classic and simple with clean blue stripes and gray text. Such a wonderful announcement for a sweet little man!

From Lauren of Inclosed Studio: When Lesley created these announcements for her newborn son, Fletcher, she knew she wanted to use baby powder scented paper. She kept the design clean and simple to match the subtle scent. The design was then letterpress printed in gray and light blue inks on the custom handmade paper. The photo was digitally printed on a felt weave paper to match the texture of the paper.
