Pretty + Paper

I’m inspired by so many of the beautiful things that I see every day, from dresses to flowers to cakes, so I thought it would be fun to start pairing up some of those pretty things with a complementary wedding invitation! – Nole

Jody + Rain’s Eastern-Inspired Lasercut Wood Wedding Invitations

Designer Kate Holgate sent over these fantastic invitations that she designed for a recent destination wedding in the mountains of Colorado.  I love the way Kate combine two very different influences – a woodsy outdoor wedding venue and Eastern-inspired elements – within the framework of a very cool lasercut wood veneer design.  So unique!

From Kate: Jody and Rain contacted me about designing their save the date and invitation for an outdoor mountain destination wedding in Durango, Colorado.  Jody and Rain wanted something that was outdoorsy, but not the commonly used rustic cowboy theme.  Jody is an accomplished yogi and Rain used to teach Tae Kwon Do, so they wanted something unique and natural that also carried an Eastern vibe.  They loved the idea of incorporating real wood, lots of texture and ornate Eastern patterns.  Their color palette was inspired by the purple wildflowers of the Rocky Mountains: aster, bachelor buttons, wild lupine with accents of bright green.

For the save the date, we printed cherrywood veneer cards from Cards of Wood and attached a small envelope teaser.  I designed a monogram that contained the bride and grooms initials in a modernized Eastern-influenced font.  Rain sent me a photo of a tapestry that he and Jody loved thus inspiring the custom lotus pattern used throughout the suite.  Attached to the save the date card was a folded trail map of the wedding destination: Durango Mountain Resort.

For the wedding invitation, I designed a custom lasercut wood piece.  Candyspotting did a phenomenal job producing the intricate design on matching cherrywood veneer.  Rain mention that he was fond of a particular mountain called The Diamond at Longs Peak.  I used this mountain’s profile in the design and surrounded it with Eastern ornaments and floral shapes.  I enclosed the lasercut card in a deep purple petal pouchette, fastened shut by a lotus-motif pattern sticker and tied in twine.

The RSVP card was a printed wood piece slipped inside a bright green mini envelope.  The entire set was contained by a monogram-stamped muslin bag.  Using the monogram and lotus pattern, we also printed ceremony programs backed by matching cherrywood.

Piper’s Neon Pink + Gold 2nd Birthday Party Invitations

From fun flourishes to the neon and gold color palette, these girly birthday party invitations from Wiley Valentine are seriously adorable!  Rachelle, half of the talented duo behind Wiley Valentine, created these sweet invitations for her daughter Piper’s second birthday party, with each invitation letterpress printed on cotton paper by Rachelle’s husband Michael of Czar Press.  Michael even edge painted the invitations with an amazing gold-to-pink ombre effect!

From Rachelle: The inspiration behind the invitations was the theme of her birthday party “A Fancy Afternoon.”  Piper really loves her Fancy Nancy books so the “Fancy” element was an obvious choice.  I went over the top with fancy flourishes and designs to set the tone for her party.

The neon pink lent a playful tone as did the ombre gold-to-pink edge painting.  The Dr. Seuss quote we printed on the neon gift tags is such a fabulous quote and it incorporated the reading aspect of the theme.

Anna + Mark’s Preppy Yellow and Green Wedding Invitations

Becca from Lavender’s Blue sent over these colorful and preppy wedding invitations that she created for an upcoming summer wedding in Texas.  Becca drew her inspiration from the bride’s color palette and wedding flowers, with a few Texas icons thrown in for good measure.  I’m loving the striped envelope liners and bold belly band!

From Becca: Anna wanted something simple, elegant, and summery – with just a “hint of Texan” – and sunshine yellow and lush green for the colors.  She also had an idea of what flowers she wanted for the wedding, so I worked off of those images to create some summery florals to adorn the invitations.

I created a logo using their initials to include in the invitation, which we ended up using in several elements of the suite, including the address labels, the belly band, and also as a sticker for the envelope flap.  For envelope liners, we went with a striped yellow lining to add elegance and playfulness to the entire suite.

For Anna’s “hint of Texan,” I incorporated a small silhouette of the state of Texas on the main invitation, then used sheriff’s stars for the RSVP card, and a cowboy boot for the post-wedding brunch invitation.

Ben + Mandy’s Modern Letterpress Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone!  We’re starting the week off with some modern wine-inspired wedding invitations from designer Cristina Pandol.  Cristina created these invitations for the wedding of a friend and colleague, drawing inspiration from wine labels to complement the vineyard wedding venue.  So cute!

From Cristina: Ben is a colleague of mine, so this project was very personal for me.  Ben and Mandy are a young couple who are fun, energetic, creative, very hands on, and most importantly crazy in love.  They asked me to design something that represented them as a couple and was young and different, without being too unconventional.  The only design inspiration I was given was to “think wine” to fit with the vineyard wedding venue.

After spending a lot of time in the wine aisle, I knew that I wanted to do an invitation for a #10 vertical envelope.  The vertical layout made it a little younger and the long and skinny dimension would give the feeling of a wine label.  This also made it possible to fit all of the information on one piece, which brought down the overall production cost.

Since a wedding is all about two people coming together I wanted to mix two typefaces in an interesting way, but keep it looking clean by stacking it.  I chose Soundtrack as the focus typeface because it’s clean, but looks handwritten and fits with their DIY style.
