Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Favor Ideas

I think the best wedding favors are personal AND practical (and yes, I count mini pies as practical!). Here are some wedding favor ideas to send your guests home with an extra special thank you gift, from the aforementioned mini pies to adorable custom matchboxes and seed packets. Bonus: you can make some seriously adorable labels to accompany any of these favor ideas! – Annie

New Year’s Eve Party Printables

True story: this entire post was inspired by a trip down the snacks aisle of my local grocery store. I have a MAJOR weakness for Rice Krispies Treats and couldn’t resist picking up a box while ostensibly shopping for the more appropriate items on my list. But I got to thinking about New Year’s Eve and how I always want a sweet post-midnight snack, so I thought I’d combine a few of my favorite items into a cute favor bag with a printable label that you can hand out to your guests on New Year’s Eve! Plus, Lauren created a beautiful fill-in card for you and your guests to record your New Year’s resolutions, giving us a perfect trio of New Year’s Eve party printables. Just add in some champagne (or a couple of signature cocktails) and you’ve got everything you need for a fantastic fête on New Year’s Eve!

I also found some travel size bottles of pain reliever tablets at the grocery store, and it seemed like a good idea to toss one of those into the favor bags for any friends that might, ahem, find themselves with a bit of a headache the next day. But pain reliever labels aren’t the cutest thing in the world, so I created a little label to use instead. You can find both printable labels for download below!

To make the New Year’s resolutions card, just download the template here and print onto text weight or cover weight letter-sized paper. Use a paper trimmer to cut the printed paper into quarters. So easy!

To make the favor bags:

Step 1. Download the printable favor bag label template here, and print onto text weight or cover weight letter-sized paper in the color of your choice. Cut out each individual label using scissors or a paper trimmer. If you like, you can add a bit of sparkle to your labels using a metallic gold paint pen.

Step 2. Attach the label to your favor bag (mine are from the Sugar Paper collection for Target!) using washi tape. Fill with some of your favorite treats, a travel size bottle of pain reliever tablets (you can find a cute label for the travel size bottles here), and perhaps a bit of sparkly confetti, and set them out for guests to grab on their way home!

Rustic Moonrise Kingdom-Inspired Wedding Invitations

Rubber stamps are such an underutilized method for printing wedding invitations! Michael of Anticipate Invitations created these Moonrise Kingdom-inspired wedding invitations for a rustic wedding in Maine – and almost the entire suite is printed using rubber stamps! I love the attention to detail in these wedding invitations, right down to the vintage postcard hexagon tag!

From Michael: Alexis and Brian drew inspiration for their custom wedding invitation from Wes Anderson films (think Moonrise Kingdom and Grand Budapest Hotel) and the vibe of their rustic venue, Josias River Farm in Cape Neddick, Maine. It had to be colorful—but not bold, vintage—but not campy, and modern—but not unwelcoming. Although with the venue being a farm it could skew rusticly romantic, the couple requested something a bit more unexpected. We were happy to accept the challenge and the couple was a breath of fresh air to work with. They were able to articulate what it was they wanted their guests to feel, and that was a great starting point from which to jump from.

Since materials were just as important as the design to the couple, we turned to the beautiful handmade quality that only rubber stamps can give for printing. The printing was done on large sheets of paper and then later cut down to size so that less precision was needed to ensure they were printed straight. Aside from the full-color vintage postcard hexagon card, all the pieces were printed using this method.

The invitation card was printed on pale blue paper, backed with an off-white, speckled recycled paper for thickness, and then printed using an extra-large custom rubber stamp. The coral RSVP postcard was cleverly written in a Mad Libs style and was also backed with a contrasting paper color to give it rigidity and cohesiveness. All the pieces were packaged together with coral bakers twine and a hexagon card made from a vintage Maine postcard. A brown kraft pastry bag stood in for an envelope and added just the right amount of quirkiness and vintage flair.

Return address labels were printed on the same blue green paper as the invitation and sealed the pastry bag closed for mailing. A collection of nature-themed, vintage postage stamps were sourced by the bride and completed the whole package.

Lucas + Judah’s Wild Kratts Birthday Party Invitations

I really don’t know how Lisa from Good on Paper does it. Every year she comes up with the best themes for her two boys’ birthday parties and then completely knocks it out of the park with the invitations! For her older son’s 5th birthday (BTW – how is Lucas FIVE already??? You can also check out birthday invitations 1, 2, 3, and 4), Lucas requested a Wild Kratt’s theme for a shared party with his friend Judah. The resulting invitations and party paper are all so much fun!

From Lisa: For Lucas’ 5th birthday party he asked for a “Wild Kratts” party. If you haven’t seen this show, it’s an educational animated series on PBS, created by and starring brothers Chris and Martin Kratt. The show is full of fun facts about animals, ranging from polar bears to geckos, and each episode features a particular critter’s unique “creature power.” Lucas gets really excited learning about animal powers and defenses, and I love when he enlightens me with new animal facts! This year we decided to throw a modern animal-themed birthday party together with Judah, Lucas’ good friend from school, who turned five the day before.

Starting with the invitation design, I painted abstract animal patterns using simple black watercolor paint, and hand wrote “Go Wild” which would later become a logo for the party. I took a cute photo of Lucas and Judah and used it as a custom envelope liner. The envelopes were finished with matching wrap-around address labels.

We originally scheduled the party for Saturday, and had all the invitations printed up. We later changed it to Sunday due to Little League conflicts. I didn’t want to waste the old invitations, so I cut off the old RSVP information, and used the top half to make “creature power” trading cards that accompanied each t-shirt. Each trading card had fun facts about different animals. Cute AND educational! The bottom of the invitations were used to create name tags and were handwritten with each kid’s name.

If you’ve seen our other birthday parties, you know that donut holes are a Jackson family tradition. This year’s donut cones were made with the animal printed recycled paper.

One of my favorite ideas for the party was to make “polar bear ice,” aka popsicles. There’s a Wild Kratts episode called “Polar Bears Don’t Dance,” and I wanted the “polar bear ice” to tie into that. The team at Whole Foods Market Gilman made custom paletas in three fruity flavors (blueberry cream, apple/pineapple and fresh strawberry). All were a huge hit on the warm day.

I designed some packaging for the pops using wax food bags, snipped at the bottom and  sealed on top with a hand lettered label. The package kept the pops from sticking together in the cooler, and also doubled as a place for the melty drips to fall. They were devoured in seconds!

The tags and labels are ideal for wedding favors – can’t you imagine the round labels on jars of homemade jam or local treats for a summer wedding?? We also loved the idea of pairing the printable tags with welcome bags for out of town guests. I just love the gradients in the watercolor lettering and illustrations!

For the postcards, we wanted to mix things up a bit – we thought they would make a wonderful alternative guestbook! And these postcards are the easiest things in the world to use. Just print and fold along the fine perforated lines – no cutting or measuring required!

The tent cards make the most perfect place cards and escort cards! And as much as I love calligraphy, I know it’s not always in the budget. And that’s the beauty of these printables – just add your own text using your favorite fonts! I used two fonts from calligrapher Molly Jacques – Brushy (one of my all time faves) and Asterism.
