{happy weekend!}

Sigh. Week two of this ridiculous government shutdown. And the more I listen to the news, the angrier I get. So! Time for distractions! Last weekend, we hopped into the car for a spontaneous trip to the mountains. We were only gone for a couple of days, but it was nice to get away from DC – and even more nice to see some real fall foliage. And this weekend, Paper Camp is in DC! I’m so excited to see some of my fellow panelists and meet the new students! But in the meantime…

Emmy’s Oktoberfest 30th Birthday Party Invitations

Lindsay from McMillian + Furlow always has the most creative invitation ideas! Like these fly fishing 70th birthday invitations for her dad and these amazing Memorial Day summer kick-off party invitations. Today she’s sharing the Oktoberfest-inspired invitations that she created for her sister-in-law’s 30th birthday party. I have a feeling my beer-loving husband would very much approve of these invitations!

From Lindsay: I recently designed these 5″ x 7″ postcard invitations for my sister-in-law’s Oktoberfest inspired 30th birthday. We developed the idea of naming the party “Emtoberfest” as a combination of both her name (Emmy) and Oktoberfest. The party will be held at a local German beer hall here in NYC, and typical Oktoberfest attire is strongly encouraged!

We sent the invitations out in an orange envelope which complimented the postcard design beautifully. For budget reasons, these invitations were printed digitally.

DIY Tutorial: Dinner Party Placemats + Menus

One of the most fun aspects of a throwing a great party is designing the decor. There are so many creative options to choose from and it can really help accentuate the aesthetics of the event. Today, we designed a fun, easy and inexpensive option perfect for a western style wedding or even a dinner party! â€“ Bailey and Emma of Antiquaria

Step One: Cut a section of kraft paper off of a gift wrap roll sized to fit the length of your table. At each seat, trace a plate using a black brush marker so that you have the correct plate proportion.

Step Two: Decorate each plate! Using the same brush marker, draw a pattern on the circle you’ve just traced. We used a triangle motif to stay with the western theme…but scallops or flowers could be super cute too!

Step Three: So that everyone knows exactly where to sit, write each guests name under the plate. We penciled the name lightly first so that we could be sure that it was centered. Then, we traced over it in black to match the rest of the setting.

Step Four: Now it’s time to stamp your menus. Ink your menu stamp (we used our Old West Menu Stamp) with a black pad. On the oversized stamps, such as menus, it works best to hold the stamp facing you and dab and swipe the pad onto the stamp image.

Step Five: Once the stamp is inked, center it over your menu card. Press down using moderate pressure. Lift it off and set aside to dry thoroughly. For a step-by-step video tutorial about the stamp printing process go here.

Inspired by: Mythical Creatures

It all started with this Big Foot card from Blackbird Letterpress, then Banquet Workshop came out with this awesome print – and now I’m seeing mythical creatures everywhere! Particularly unicorns, which is never a bad thing. We could all use a few more unicorns in our lives.
