Urbanic Faves | All That Glitters

With the holiday season quickly approaching, we’re gravitating towards things with a little more sparkle and shine around here at Urbanic. Okay, who are we kidding?!  — we actually kind of *always* are, but this is the perfect time of year to do a round up on it.  This month, I  decided to start the project of organizing, re-arranging, and fancying up my desk area for a fresh perspective going into the new year. Below are some top picks from Urbanic and beyond that have that perfect golden touch.  xo  â€“Audrey

Lindsay and Ryan’s Illustrated Wedding Ceremony Programs

We saw Lindsay and Ryan’s beautiful wedding invitations from Melissa of Atheneum Creative earlier this morning – and Melissa was also kind enough to share the ceremony programs that she designed for this beautiful wedding! We so rarely get a peek into a full ceremony program so I thought it was worth highlighting in case any of you are on the hunt for some ideas and inspiration. Melissa created custom portrait illustrations for the entire bridal party and illustrated the order of the ceremony. So fun!

Lindsay + Ryan’s Modern Boho Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! I’m so excited to start the week off with this bright and colorful wedding invitation suite from Melissa at Atheneum Creative! In addition to all the wonderful pops of color, I’m loving all the fun details in this suite – from hand lettered hang tags to custom illustrations!

From Melissa: I loved this wedding! The color, the illustration, the type, everything! Lindsay and Ryan had a boho style wedding and the sky was the limit on the amount of fun and color for the whole day!

We knew were were going to incorporate a lot of hand drawn elements, a lot of illustration and tons of color – so for the save the date we started with an illustration of the couple that really represented their style and personality.

We had fun with the invitation wording and also brought in the love of the couple’s favorite movie — UP.

We incorporated a block with Lindsay and Ryan’s hand lettered names on the envelopes and hang tags. A pair of birds (which came from matching tattoos on the bride and groom) also represented the couple through all the wedding stationery. We took tons of elements from the save the date and invitation to create a lot of the day of materials like napkins and stir sticks.

Mulled Daiquiri

“Life starts over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

There’s little better than a seasonal drink: a drink that captures the moods and flavors of the season, that reflects the changing light and complements the weather. For fall, that means darker, richer drinks to match our darkening skies, and, for me lately, lots of spicy flavors that bring back childhood memories of a house filled with the smells of fall baking. So I whipped up a simple syrup that embodies some of the best fall flavors that can easily turn any cocktail into the perfect fall cocktail. Let’s start with an easy one: the Mulled Daiquiri. – Andrew

The Mulled Daiquiri

2 oz Dark Rum
1 oz Lime Juice
1 oz Mulling Spice Syrup*

Combine the rum, lime, and syrup with ice and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and enjoy.

Mulling Spice Syrup Recipe

1 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
1 1/2 cup Water
2-3 Cinnamon Sticks, Broken Up
1 tbsp Nutmeg, Crushed
1 tbsp Allspice
1 tbsp Black Peppercorns
1 tbsp Cloves

Break up the cinnamon sticks and crush the nutmeg with a mallet. Combine the sugar and water over low heat until the sugar is melted, then add in the spices. Simmer for about twenty minutes, stirring frequently so the sugar doesn’t burn. Remove from the heat and let it sit, covered, for an hour. Strain out the spices, bottle the syrup, and refrigerate.

The syrup is rich and dark, and the house smells fantastic while it’s cooking. The resulting rum sour is tart but redolent with baking spices and the rich sweetness of brown sugar. (I’ll confess to overlooking brown sugar – which gets its color and some flavor from molasses – as a cocktail ingredient, but am now a total convert.)

This recipe started out as a lark but might have become my go-to for the season. And the syrup is tremendously versatile, something that you can incorporate into a variety of other drinks – or desserts.

Happy Weekend!

Hello! And greetings from Exhaustion Town, population: my family. Between the newborn and the toddler, we’re not faring too well when it comes to sleep these days. Anyone else experience major sleep issues when their toddler hit the 2 year mark? Sophie now goes into complete meltdown mode each night towards the end of her bedtime routine – and I’m having minor little panic attacks thinking about what this might mean for us as we try to get Alice into a regular night routine over the coming weeks. All advice is welcome! But in the meantime…
