Pretty Paper in the Office: Calculators

I refuse to let go of some things; calculators are one of those things. I’ve used the app that comes standard on phones, but there’s something about the tactile act of pressing the keys that lets me get into a flow in a way I never could on a touchscreen. (I also can’t get over the accuracy issue. I always mess up on the phone!) After attending my first NSS a few years ago, it became obvious that with some work, it’s just better to have an actual calculator in hand. Luckily there are still plenty of great options out there for those of use who like to crunch those numbers the old school way.  – Julie

Lisa + Paul’s Gold New Year’s Eve Wedding Invitations

With 2015 just a couple of weeks away (!!), I couldn’t resist sharing these sparkly gold New Year’s Eve wedding invitations from Courtney Callahan Paper. Courtney paired gold foil and calligraphy with clock and confetti-inspired details – the perfect mix for a New Year’s Eve wedding!

From Courtney: Since Lisa and Paul’s New Year’s Eve wedding will take place at Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago, their wedding invitation had to be equally luxurious. Each piece of the invitation is printed on Crane’s Pearl White Lettra stock and features gold foil and custom calligraphy.

To tie in the “festive” part of their wedding, the inner envelope was lined in gold glitter and the entire suite was tied together with a gold glitter belly band and tag featuring the couple’s names, wedding date, and a clock at the stroke of midnight – which was also featured on a custom stamp. Guests also noted if they would be “ringing in the new year together” or “toasting from afar.”

Persimmon Margarita

Nole recently picked up some persimmons from Union Market and, naturally, I decided to turn them into cocktails. The results were good. Persimmons have a sweet, rich earthiness that’s really perfect for this season, and their flavors really shine once they’re cooked a bit. I came up with a few really delicious syrups that I talked about on my Instagram feed, but Nole wanted me to feature one of her favorites here today. I can’t say no to her. – Andrew

Persimmon-Date Honey Syrup

1 cup Honey
1 cup Water

Those persimmons take a drink that I had previously only considered for summer and turn into a rich, dark, earthy winter cocktail. Fantastic.
