Navy and White Modern Eclectic Wedding Invitations

These navy and white modern eclectic wedding invitations from Camille of Robinson Paperie combine clean, modern lines inspired by the wedding venue SoDo Park with playful brush lettering on the envelopes! I love the way Camille translated the industrial cement floors and exposed air ducts into an elegant invitation design. The white brush lettering on navy envelopes and gold wax seals are the perfect finishing touches for this suite!

From Camille: I actually had the pleasure of knowing the bride and groom before I started working with them. We all attended the same college and that is where Patrick and Tana met for the first time many years ago! We started Patrick and Tana’s design process by trying to incorporate the look and feel of their wedding venue, SoDo Park. A downtown Seattle venue known for its modern eclectic style, cement floors, and high vaulted ceilings with exposed ducting. It is a lovely venue that doesn’t need a lot of extra decor to feel dark and romantic but modern and elegant at the same time.

I knew that I had to make something bold and beautiful, but also not let it feel like it was overpowering you with too much color or too many soft touches. Their wedding was in the spring, but aside from the time of year, the bride didn’t want to do anything with the traditional florals and watercolor she had been seeing.

So we went on ahead with using the venue as inspiration. With its traditional finishes we stuck with clean lines, lots of white space and one of my favorite fonts of all times, Valencia. Everything was digitally printed on Crane Lettra’s Ecru White. The matte finish of the suite, mixed with a bold geometric pattern of the response card really captured the overall theme and feeling the couple was going for.

The navy guest envelope was finished with a cream brush lettering and an antique gold wax seal which added a touch of whimsy to the whole suite. We also added a rehearsal dinner invitation that mimicked the invitation suite. Overall, the bride and groom were very pleased with how everything came together and felt like it captured their look and feel perfectly!

Calligraphy Inspiration: Emily Rose Ink

Hello friends! I’m super excited to dive into the work of calligrapher Emily Asher of Emily Rose Ink today. It’s summertime, and we’re right in the peak season of being outdoors, where you want pretty things around you that feel fresh and organic, and even maybe a little romantic. That pretty much wraps up Emily’s style of calligraphy. So let’s jump in with a whole dose of lettering work that I think you’ll love. Jen

Of her inspiration, Emily shares, “I’ve found that I gravitate towards a style that feels romantic and organic but refined, a little imperfect without being too messy. I want my invitations to convey the formality deserving of a wedding without feeling stuffy or too traditional.”

Emily likes to use vintage stamps with her wedding projects. “It’s fun for me to choose stamps that correspond to the couple’s geographical location, their history, or their interests, and they dress up an envelope in a way that makes each guest feel like they are opening a beautifully decorated gift when they receive their invitation.”

“I am definitely inspired by nature and often my invitations have a sense of place – whether it’s a venue illustration or a floral border inspired by the local colors and varieties of flowers that will be used in their wedding,” shares Emily. This is one invitation for a welcome party that I’d want to frame afterwards!

I love this color palette for an invitation suite. That’s such a pretty blue and I love how it pairs with the reds.

“Lately I’ve been doing a lot of venue illustrations – both detailed architectural line drawings and watercolor scenes inspired by the natural beauty of the venue — and I love giving guests a preview of the wedding in this way,” says Emily. “The invitations also then serve as mementos for the couple, pieces of art that they can cherish forever.”

Here’s an example of when subtle is so perfect. The soft gray tones of the lettering and vine illustration on this table card makes the design feel more modern.

From Kara: This wedding invitation suite was designed for one of my best friends, Meg and her sweet husband, Brian. Creating their custom paper goods came easily to me! Knowing Meg and Brian’s personality and style I knew I wanted to design a classic, elegant invitation suite with a hint of some whimsical touches. To tie in Meg’s love for antique treasures from her grandparents, I incorporated gold foil accents and an intricately designed wedding monogram. After seeing the navy bridesmaids dresses chosen for their February wedding, I knew a deep navy envelope would make the perfect final touch to wow their guests. It created a gorgeous contrast from the bright white paper and the handwritten gold calligraphy that graced the envelopes.

The invitation design was 5.5″ x 8.5″ (A9) and foil printed on a thick Conservation Board paper. The details card was 4.5″ x 4.5″ and printed on the same paper using a dark navy letterpress ink. For an extra soft, romantic touch, a blush hand-made silk ribbon was used to tie the cards together so that they would stay stacked nicely inside of the envelope.

To tie the wedding program in with their invitation suite, I included navy lettering, custom hand painted watercolor florals and a charming illustration of the Chapel where Meg and Brian exchanged their vows. A soft, hand-made silk ribbon was also tied on the programs.

The custom designed details did not stop with the invitation suite. Throughout the ceremony and reception, there were several signs including; gorgeous navy and gold beverage and food signs, a welcome sign, direction sign and a little sign for the guests gifts from the bride and groom! To thank the groomsmen for being a part of their wedding celebration, we had custom Tervis Tumblers made with their wedding logo. This was of course a hit, along with the gold foil napkins and frosted beverage cups.

Illustrated Tropical Hawaiian Wedding Invitations

Oversized palm frond motifs, dainty pineapple wax seals, and a vibrant color palette; these wedding invitations have it all! Katie of Honey Brush Design designed these illustrated tropical Hawaiian wedding invitations for a bride who also happens to work as a florist! When the bride spends the better part of her days working with gorgeous blooms, you can definitely expect that her wedding invitations are going to be packed to the brim with gorgeous flowers and foliage!

Illustrated Tropical Hawaiian Wedding Invitations by Honey Brush Design

From Katie: This custom wedding suite was created for a destination wedding in the Kona, Hawaii. The bride drew inspiration from some of the favorite unusual blooms that she came to know and love as an assistant florist, as well as from the island the setting of her wedding.

Illustrated Tropical Hawaiian Wedding Invitations by Honey Brush Design

She wanted to step out and do something different than the traditional Hawaiian look. She opted for a wild and romantic feel to accompany her tropical invitations. With lots of greenery and jewel colored blooms, we chose a rich color palette rather than going bright. We went with cream colored paper to go up against the moody tones and to tie in the color of the white sandy beaches of Hawaii.

The Taro Plant is known to many Hawaiians as a life source and has beautiful large green leaves shaped like a heart. The bride loved the meaning behind this element and asked me to use it in the design. She also requested that I sneak in thistles to symbolize Scotland (where they got engaged!). Other details including a pineapple wax seal, monstera envelope liner, and vintage tropical stamps also bring in special touches to these paper goods. The invitation itself is adorned with unique watercolor flowers and brush lettering to add the wild look we were aiming for.

A serif typeface balances out the loose feel of the artwork with a more structural element. The RSVP postcard is coated in an ocean-inspired blue watercolor wash and the information card subtly sports a piece of fan coral. The creamy envelope liner and wax seal pop against the subdued blue envelope which is similar to the color found on the the RSVP card. The pieces of this suite have been flat printed on paper that is similar in texture to watercolor paper in order to highlight the artwork.

Elegant Copper Foil Wedding Invitations on Handmade Paper

What better item to choose for your “something old and something new” than gorgeous invitations inspired by your own parents’ wedding invitations? These copper foil wedding invitations on handmade paper from Alex of Al Stampa are an homage to the bride’s mother’s invitation from the 1970s. With elegant copper foil text on handmade paper with delicate torn edges, not to mention STUNNING emerald green envelopes, these invitations are a fresh take on a vintage beauty!

From Alex: Janice and Spencer have one of those love stories that you only see in the movies. In love in high school, separated for almost 10 years, only to then fall in love again years later when a friend organized them to be at the same New Years party.

Copper Foil Wedding Invitations on Handmade Paper by Al Stampa

Their wedding was set in a lavender field in Wiscasset, Maine at the stunning Marianmade Farms. To say it was a beautiful wedding is an understatement. Janice put her vision into every aspect of the wedding, and they both created magical moments all throughout the evening. Some examples include handmade paper florals, a watercolor backdrop for a photo booth, all of which came back to the colors we used in the invitation; lavender, copper, and emerald.

The most spectacular part of this suite was the inspiration. The bride wanted to emulate her parent’s invitation from 1973. The simplicity of this invitation, with the handmade paper, copper text, and hand torn edges, is something you don’t see too often nowadays and was an honor to use as part of this couple’s story.

Copper Foil Wedding Invitations on Handmade Paper by Al StampaCopper Foil Wedding Invitations on Handmade Paper by Al StampaI worked with Signora e Mare and ordered their ecru handmade paper, which had a subtle lavender color to it and was the perfect choice for this suite. Because the couple loves a certain modernity to their life and their special day, I opted for a modern font and added an illustration of the camper van that is situated on Marianmade Farm, in front of which they took their wedding portraits.

I foil stamped the invitation in the copper color, which was a beautiful contrast to the lavender hued paper. The RSVP card was our all time favorite, a small, almost circular tearing of the paper, with a matching envelope.

For the envelope, I scoured the internet for the perfect emerald color that the bride had envisioned. I found the most beautiful soft-touch emerald envelopes called Plike, and foil printed their return address stamp on the back. The finishing touch? Sarah Vaughan Stamps to throw in another rich color to the mix, and to nod to the couple’s love of jazz music.
