Kris + Lowell’s St. Patrick’s Day Wedding Invitations

Is it really possible that I’ve been blogging for nearly 5 years without featuring some St. Patrick’s Day wedding invitations?!? Well, better late than never! J from Grey Snail Press sent over these beautiful invitations that she designed for a St. Patrick’s Day wedding. The design combines a stylized shamrock (a must!) with J’s whimsical hand lettering and watercolor accents. Beautiful!

From J: These wedding invitations were a nod to both the bride’s Irish heritage and the St. Patrick’s Day nuptials. A stylized shamrock illustration and hand lettering were letterpress printed in Kelly green by Hound Dog Press on Crane’s 110# Lettra in fluorescent white.

A Kelly green envelope was chosen with custom watercolor and ink shamrocks digitally printed on lightweight cerulean paper for liners. RSVP cards were printed digitally, along with two shamrock accents and complementing cerulean envelopes.

Andrea’s Rustic Woodland Theme Baby Shower Invitations

When it came time to plan her winter baby shower, Andrea from Featherpress Design and her friends decided to go in a slightly non-traditional direction with a rustic woodland theme. Andrea illustrated an assortment of woodland creatures for the invitation and rsvp card, and lined the envelopes by hand in a woodland-appropriate green and white plaid pattern. Too cute!

From Andrea: I wanted something different for my own baby shower invitations. We started with the woodland theme of the shower, and I illustrated forest creatures like owls and deer in green and white. The invitations were paired with brown envelopes with plaid green and white envelope liners.

We kept costs down by using digital printing and lining the envelopes by hand. To continue the theme throughout the baby shower, I designed all the shower games to match the invitation.

Katie + Matt’s Classic Southern Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! Today I’m hanging out at the New York International Gift Fair, and I can’t wait to share some of my favorite finds from the show later this week! But in the meantime, designer Kristen Smith sent over these classic invitations that she designed for a Southern wedding. I’m loving all the vibrant pops of red – such a great touch!

From Kristen: Katie is an art teacher and Matt is an industrial designer, and when it came to the invitations they wanted something elegant and classic with a few modern touches. We first set to work creating a custom monogram (since the bride and groom have last names that begin with the same initial), which could be used on everything from invitations to favor tags. The monogram was one of my favorite parts!

The RSVPs were done as postcards and pre-stamped so attendees could simply return them in the mail. On the front of the RSVP was a “Marriage Advice” madlib for guests to fill out and return as well. At the reception they were hung in a tree near the tent for everyone to see!

The invitations were letterpress printed while the other flat pieces were printed digitally. All three were then edge painted in a beautiful red to match the red liners chosen for the envelopes. The belly band that held everything together featured a gate on the front with wreaths containing their initials. On the wedding day, similar wreaths were hung with moss initials for both Katie and Matt.

The programs were done to match the invitations with the monogram and names prominently featured on the front. On the inside we used the same red from the liners and edging to make the pages stand out a little more. The inside featured information and historical tidbits about the venue as well as the history for all of the important items incorporated during the wedding ceremony. The programs were punched and tied with bakers twine as well.

Thanks Kristen!

Step One: Lay a 5 1/2″ square notecard down on a firm, clean work surface. Ink your stamp (we used our Vintage Calligraphy Save the Date stamp) and center it over the square card. When ready, press the stamp down on the card, using moderate pressure (too much can give a muddy image). Lift stamp off and set aside to let the print dry. For more details on how to ink and print the stamp please visit here (see step 1).

Step Two: Once you’ve made all of your prints and they are dry, you will move on to the watercoloring. With a pastel pink watercolor, paint dots in vertical rows from left to right (if right handed or right to left if left handed). Be cautious not to use too much water as it may run or warp the paper.

Step Three: Using envelope liner templates, cut liners out of a fun pattern. Simply use stick glue or double sided tape to install the liners into the envelopes (adhere around the top triangle).

Step Four: Lastly, you’ll want to stamp your return address (we used our Calligraphy Ampersand Return Address stamp) on the back flap of the envelope. We’ve been loving the tonal look lately (gold on gold, pink on pink…etc.) so that what we’ve chosen here with this design. Now all you have to do is address them, add postage, and send them on their merry way!

Janine + Craig’s Chevron Stripe Fabric Pocket Wedding Invitations

This wedding invitation suite from Janine Rae Design has so many elements that I love – a bold color palette, chevron stripes, and a fabric pocket to hold everything together. But the best part? Janine and her now-husband Craig incorporated their beloved dog Abbey into the invitation design and made a donation to their local SPCA in lieu of wedding favors. So perfect.

From Janine: Craig and I adopted our sweet dog, Abbey, while dating and she has certainly become an important part of our relationship. When thinking about the design for our wedding invitation I knew I wanted to have fun and also make the design deeply personal to us. The silhouette of Abbey with her collar flower pulled all of our paper goods together and represented our support of the local SPCA with a donation in lieu of favors at the wedding.

Boxcar Press did a beautiful job of letterpress printing our invitations, as well as the ampersand tags (which were later sewn to the fabric pockets) and our reply cards. I sewed each fabric pocket from the same fabric used as table runners at our reception and tucked all the enclosure cards inside for mailing.

The garden of love stamps fit perfectly with the invitations and our backyard wedding. Yellow striped envelope liners matched the design printed on the back of the invitations and thank you notes.
