DIY “Happy Tears” Hand Painted Handkerchief

We’ve collected vintage handkerchiefs here at Antiquaria for years. There’s something so sweet and sentimental about the delicate fabric and pretty designs. For today’s DIY tutorial, we repurposed a few of them as gifts for some brides-to-be in our lives. This simple and fun project is the perfect thing to make for a loved one on their wedding day, or for you to give your mom or gals on your own wedding day. –Bailey and Emma of Antiquaria

Step 1. Print out the “For Happy Tears” download (available here) or design your own to fit the handkerchief you’d like to letter. Lay the design underneath and set something heavy toward the top to weigh down the fabric. Luckily, most vintage handkerchiefs are made of pretty transparent fabric so seeing the design is very easy.

Step 2. Prep your paint. We used a water based screen printing ink that we had on hand and diluted it with water so that it would flow nicely through our brush. Test the ink consistency on a scrap piece of fabric. Too much water will make the paint spread and not give a crisp line.

Step 3. Carefully trace the design. It’s always best to write on the very (thin) tip of a paintbrush. For the thicker portions, come down a bit to give the line some weight. Want to see the lettering in action? There’s a video of Bailey lettering an entire handkerchief on our blog.

Step 4. Heat set the design to make it waterproof. Simply follow the manufacturers instructions using an iron and a pressing cloth.

From Rachelle:The client wanted an invitation that reflected the venue, The Beverly Hills Hotel, while still keeping a feminine bridal feel. We had so much fun with this one! We created a double sided invitation on double thick cotton paper. The front was flat printed with gold foil and the back was flat printed with a pattern reminiscent of wallpaper at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

We incorporated pink stripes from the décor at the Beverly Hills H0tel for the envelope liner to create cohesiveness without being too matchy matchy. There was a also custom postage to coordinate, which I always think really completes the presentation.

Navy and Gold Foil Stamped Wedding Invitations

Navy and gold is such a classic color combination – and for good reason! For these timeless wedding invitations, Sam and Kelly of Deliver combined shiny gold foil with classic typography and ornate borders to create a truly elegant design!

From Sam and Kelly: Anna Beth had clear vision and great taste. She knew right away she wanted her invitations to include lots of gold and touches of navy, which we were happy to work with. She loved a more traditional look with classic typography and intricate details. We love line work and she encouraged us to push it further in hopes of creating an ornate, yet sophisticated design.

The borders came alive when they were foil stamped as you could interact and feel the texture of all the detailed lines. We also created a simple logo to incorporate on smaller pieces to tie loose ends together – it helped create a sense of identity for Anna Beth and David’s new life together. The entire suite was foil stamped in metallic gold and her programs and envelope addresses were digitally printed in navy ink.

Gold Foil and Lace Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! Designer Lauren Chism shared these beautiful gold foil and lace wedding invitations here a couple of years ago – and today she’s here to share a slightly more traditional spin on that combination! The invitations feature gold foil text surrounded by a subtle lace-inspired letterpress blind impression pattern, and a beautiful gold floral envelope liner. So classically beautiful!

From Lauren: Gold foil is definitely having a moment right now… and you would think if you’ve seen one gold foil and lace wedding invitation, you’ve seen them all, but these invitations might prove you wrong!

Brittany and her mom were drawn to Carley and John’s wedding invitations but were looking for something a little more traditional with lace accents instead of the lace taking up the whole invitation background. I played with a lot of lace arrangements before we landed on this classic look and I love how timeless and elegant this suite is.

The insert and RSVP card were also printed in gold foil, with the insert featuring the lace again, that coordinated, but wasn’t exactly the same. We paired them with ivory envelopes and Brittany picked this gold floral paper from Paper Source for the liners, which she ordered and I cut down to fit her envelopes. I love how two invitations with the same printing method and general ‘style’ can be so different!
