Shannon’s Dual Citizenship Party Invitations

Any cause for celebration is the perfect reason to throw a party – and designer Shannon DeCock decided to do just that when she was granted dual U.S.-British citizenship this past spring!  Shannon drew inspiration from the two Durhams – her current home town of Durham, North Carolina and her mom’s birthplace of County Durham in England – and incorporated a custom plaid in shades of red and blue.  So fun!

From Shannon: My mom was born in England and moved here when she was 20.  Due to the laws in place at the time, I did not receive dual citizenship at birth – so I applied for my dual citizenship last summer.  I took the oath this spring and thought it was the perfect excuse to throw a party!

I live in Durham, North Carolina, the Bull City, and, coincidentally, my mom is from County Durham, England.  I thought it fitting for the two Durhams to collide — giving the Durham Bull a bowler hat and a monocle.

I also created a custom plaid for the back of the invitation.  Although tartan is typically Scottish, I thought the pattern added a colorful pop to the back, and County Durham is pretty far north.

Thanks so much Shannon – and congratulations!

Turcan + Ev’s Formal and Elegant Black + White Wedding Invitations

Turcan and Ev wanted classic wedding invitations with a few bold yet sophisticated elements.  They worked with Sarah from The Happy Envelope, who created a stunning black and white invitation design.  The entire suite was letterpress printed on super-thick paper, with a vintage rose illustration on the reverse side and cobalt blue edge painting.  So pretty!

From Sarah: Turcan + Ev had a church wedding followed by a reception at the bride’s aunt’s private residence in Maryland.  The couple wanted something stunning, but still classic in tone.  Their wedding colors were black and white with cobalt blue accents. We decided to letterpress print everything on super thick 4-ply board so that we could paint the edge with a bright pop of their blue as a fun surprise.

The reverse side of the invitation was letterpress printed in black ink with a vintage rose botanical illustration.  The custom printed liner on the inner envelope was also cobalt blue for that extra “wow!” factor.  The bride wanted the reception card to really sing and stand on its own, so we letterpress printed it in two inks, utilizing her cobalt blue for a bit of visual pop.  Calligraphy by Feast Fine Art + Calligraphy sealed the deal!

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone!  This week practically flew by for me – but we’ve been keeping busy behind the scenes with lots of baby-related projects, some of which I hope to share here soon!  I finally started to feel tiny baby kicks a couple of weeks ago and they’ve been getting stronger ever since; it’s still so funny to look down and see my belly actually move from a particularly strong kick!  This weekend I’m looking forward to a movie date with friends and picking a paint color for the nursery.  But in the meantime…

Amy + Doug’s Western Romance Lace-Inspired Wedding Invitations

Amy and Doug wanted wedding invitations that reflected their romantic and rustic wedding style while also maintaining a certain level of formality and sophistication.  They worked with the team at Lucky Luxe Couture Correspondence to create a beautiful lace-inspired invitation suite that incorporates traditional but non-fussy wording and envelope liners made from vintage floral wallpaper.  So pretty!

From Erin at Lucky Luxe Couture Correspondence: Amy told us that she was planning a romantic western wedding overlooking Glacier National Park, with a wooden barn and log lodge as backdrops.  The wedding weekend will start with a kitschy Western theme rehearsal dinner, followed by a more formal and refined wedding with rustic linen and lace.

We imagined homemade cotton dresses, lace, and simple fonts without any fussy language.  The envelope liners are made from vintage floral wallpaper in shades of blue, peach, and cream.

We created handkerchief save the dates for the wedding with kraft paper envelopes, and since Amy was looking for something a little more refined but nothing too traditional, we used a metallic sand-colored envelope that looks like kraft paper’s glamorous sister for her invitation suite.

We used vintage eyelash lace to create the artwork used throughout the suite and printed in robin’s egg blue and subtle metallic bronze on 100% cotton ecru paper.  The small floral icons are from a circa-1900 cookbook that tie in with the vintage envelope liners.

Lauren + Josh’s Pacific Northwest Summer Wedding Invitations

I’ll always be a huge fan of outdoor weddings – my own wedding took place on a beautiful Memorial Day Weekend evening four years ago.  Lauren from Balue/Co. sent over these beautiful save the dates and wedding invitations that she designed for her best friend’s outdoor summer wedding in the Pacific Northwest.  Lauren chose a natural color palette of blue and green with kraft paper elements to reflect the bride and groom’s love for fishing and the outdoors, along with sophisticated details perfect for an evening wedding.

From Lauren: When one of my best friends, also named Lauren, told me she was getting married this summer, I immediately knew I wanted to design their wedding suite.  Lauren and Josh are true Pacific Northwesterners and share a love for fishing and the outdoors.  Their wedding invitation design needed to reflect that love in a tasteful, subtle way.

Using soft tones of grass green and kraft paper, the color palette and design unifies the playful elements of the summer in the Northwest while remaining elegant for an outdoor evening July wedding.

Working with Seattle letterpress shop Pike Street Press, we created two-color wedding invitations complemented by a more informal save the date featuring a beautiful portrait by Kristin Boyett.

That same lighthearted feeling is carried through to the RSVP cards, which encourage guests to write a handwritten note to the couple on the back.

Thanks Lauren!
