Bettina + David’s White and Gold Winter Wedding Invitations

It’s not an easy thing to pull off an all white wedding invitation, but that’s exactly what Emily and Dianna from Fourth Year Studio did for Bettina and David’s winter wedding! The invitation was letterpress printed on thick cotton paper, with gold details in the RSVP and envelope and a silver striped washi tape accent. Perfect for a sparkly wedding right before New Year’s Eve!

From Dianna: Bettina is a good friend of mine. She catered my wedding with LUXE and since then has started the Sweetery. She has phenomenal style and I was thrilled with she was planning a wedding of her own. Bettina and David got married just before New Years Eve at the Knoxville Modern Art Museum.

The venue was perfect for a sparkly winter wedding. All the decor was white with touches of gold and silver throughout.  At our first design meeting Bettina and David said they wanted the invitations to be white – all white. Yippee!! Letterpress on 220lb cotton paper was the perfect way to achieve the all white (no ink) invitation. A silver stripe washi tape was used as an accent.

We printed in gold on the RSVP and envelope. Bettina and David had been together for a number of years and had quite a story of their relationship. Their story was printed on vellum and wrapped all the pieces together. It was finished up with a gold elastic tie. We had so much fun working together to achieve an invitation set we both though was perfect. To see the wedding in its entirety check it out on Dixie Pixel’s site. So much loveliness in one place!!

Erin + Jeff’s Sweet Colorado Aspen Tree Wedding Invitations

The image of initials carved in wood is such an icon of love, and so very sweet as part of a wedding invitation! Chloe from hello there, design created these invitations for a fall wedding in Colorado, incorporating the heart illustration along with the bare trunks of aspen trees. The invitations and RSVP envelopes were then screen printed by the talented folks at Mama’s Sauce for an added element of color and texture. Pretty!

From Chloe: The wedding colors were purple and silver/gray; so a mixture of two whimsical and romantic typefaces in two purple hues are really set off against the white and pale gray background. Erin really wanted to capture the physical place, Breckenridge, Colorado, in the invitations. Aspen trees came up in our very first conversation and became our primary design motif. I love the look of bare aspen trees and created an illustration of some aspen trunks.

I incorporated a little “tree carving” that says “E+J” which added a little extra sweetness. This heart with the “E+J” became the second motif used in the invitations and was carried over to the RSVP cards and envelopes.

Kim + Garrett’s Whimsical Illustrated NYC Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! We’re still trying to get over the cold that brought our entire family down late last week (I was the final victim over the weekend), so I’m off to a rather sluggish start to the week. Thankfully these whimsical New York City skyline wedding invitations from Katie Fischer Design are helping to brighten the morning!

From Katie: Kim and Garrett are both professors and they met and fell in love in New York City. For their invitations, they wanted the city reflected in an artful, whimsical way.

I did a charcoal, pencil, and watercolor drawing on textured watercolor paper of the New York City skyline using energetic, graffiti-like lines. I hand-painted metallic silver accents to the finished pieces. The suite is flat printed on thick white cover with charcoal gray envelopes.

Courtney + Paul’s Brooklyn Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! We’re kicking the week off with the totally awesome wedding invitations of Courtney from Swiss Cottage Designs! Courtney was inspired by her adopted home town of Brooklyn and her love of music to create a stunning black and white invitation suite with hand drawn illustrations, cute silhouettes, and even a miniature record rsvp card. So cool!

From Courtney: We didn’t really have a theme going into our wedding but one thing that kept coming up was music and the colors black and white. Our save the date was based on the Rob Base song “It Takes Two” so we weren’t afraid to get a little weird. For the actual wedding, I used a line from a Biggie song that ended up being a repeating theme throughout our invitations and day-of pieces.

I knew I wanted the invitation to be focused around a hand drawn illustration since that is what I love to do. We got married in the DUBMO neighborhood of Brooklyn which has some pretty awesome views. There is one iconic street that showcases the Manhattan Bridge with the Empire State Building nestled below; I chose that as our main image.

The invitation was printed in two parts then duplexed to #220 and printed on Crane Lettra. One of the important things for me was to have the invitation sound like the way we both actually speak. We have a very dry sense of humor and we really wanted that to come out in our invitation text. The ridiculously talented Jenna of Love, Jenna Calligraphy addressed our black envelopes in white ink.

My personal favorite detail was the envelope liner! My friend is a photographer and when looking through her pictures, I saw one of a guy with knuckle tattoos. I knew I wanted to incorporate that same idea into our suite somehow. One I realized that “BROOKLYN” fit on the knuckles, it was a done deal!

For the RSVP card, I created a letterpress printed mini-record complete with glassine sleeve. I paired this with a 4″ x 4″ square black envelope and had our return address letterpress printed in matte silver on the front. We also provided our guests with an insert with suggestions for spending a perfect winter weekend in NYC and Brooklyn. This was printed flat on kraft paper. I finished the suite with black + gold twine (from the awesome Knot & Bow) and had a die cut tag created to hold everything together.

I love little silhouettes and created one of our hair to use throughout our suite as a continual theme. Overall, we wanted our invitations to feel classic, set the tone for our wedding, but most importantly to make our friends and family laugh.

Downton Abbey-Inspired Wedding Invitations

Another season of Downton Abbey has come and gone, and while I won’t get into the season finale I can definitely say that my favorite part of this season was Mary and Matthew’s wedding! And it appears that I’m not alone, since Erin from Lucky Luxe Couture Correspondence sent over this Downton Abbey-inspired invitation design! Called Lady Mary, the invitation features antique typefaces and flourishes inspired by the post-Edwardian period. Such a lovely combination!

From Erin: We took cues from Mary’s delicate dress, the warm grey color that permeates every scene in the sky, the silver, the clothes. We included ivy embellishments in the corners inspired by the gorgeous ornate veil piece Mary wears. The antique typefaces we used were created in the early 1920s and give the design post-Edwardian authenticity with polite English style.
