Illustrated Wedding Invitations – Rifle Design

I love, love invitations that incorporate hand-lettering or illustration, particularly the work of Florida-based illustrator Anna Melcon Bond of Rifle Design.  Anna seems to effortlessly blend traditional illustration with folk art elements to create some of the most lovely Save the Dates and wedding invitations.

This first Save the Date is one of my all-time favorites – I love the the contrast between the black background, floral illustrations, and white hand-lettering is just so beautiful:

The next set is one of Anna’s most recent invitation suites, created for a late Spring wedding in North Carolina:

As you might expect, Anna designed the invitations for her own wedding.  She then carried those elements through to other elements of the wedding, such as the ceremony programs and even to the cake!

I love the way Anna brings a sense of fun and whimsy to every invitation design:

Calligraphy – paperfinger

Last week, I received an e-mail from Bryn introducing me to her calligraphy service, paperfinger.  Based in Brooklyn, paperfinger focuses on modern and playful calligraphy styles, offering a valuable resource for brides seeking an alternative to
traditional calligraphy.

Bryn will provide handwritten and
illustrated work for everything from weddings and events to keepsakes
and custom projects.  Here are a few examples from the paperfinger portfolio:

Katie + Ben’s Silhouette Booklet Wedding Invitations

If only I’d known about these invitations last week!  Kathryn posted this gorgeous wedding on Saturday, and I love, love the silhouette-inspired hard-bound invitation books that the couple created for their guests! The bride, Katie, is a stationery designer, so I happily clicked over to her stationery website, Chellé Paperie, and flickr page to learn more about the invitations and Save the Dates.

From Katie and Ben’s flickr page: The invitation is a hard cover book. We printed a full bleed on this beautiful oyster colored bookcloth and flush mounted it to the hinged covers.

The invitation was an 8 page hand-stitched signature, bound with red & white bakers twine.

The reply card is a perforated postcard.  Each book was personalized with a bookplate for the recipient, as well as a handwritten note to every guest on the last page of our book.

Some of the invitations were hand-delivered in boxes wrapped in woodgrain paper.

In addition to the post card rsvp and hand-written letter to each guest, the invitation book contained the main invitation, a map and directions, and weekend itinerary:

In addition to these gorgeous invitations, Katie also created a double-sided Save the Date poster, sent via custom mailing tubes:

Wedding Invitations — Hammerpress

With the holidays now behind us, it feels like a good time to start focusing on wedding invitations again.  I’ve had Hammerpress bookmarked for a long, long time, and I couldn’t resist sharing a few of my favorites from their custom letterpress wedding invitations portfolio:

I love Hammerpress’s use of pattern details, from maps to damask, to help the personality of each couple shine through in the invitation.  And as each invitation suite is entirely custom, Hammerpress would be a great option for any couple looking, as Hammerpress says on their website, “for something a bit out of the ordinary for your wedding day.”
