How to Create Unique Personal Stationery with Rubber Stamps

Wedding season is officially here and events of all kinds are in full swing. And with that… of course comes thank you notes! We’ve been designing lots of personal stationery as thank you notes for our clients recently so we put together some DIY versions to show how fun it can be to craft your own personal stationery. We used the same monogram rubber stamp for all three designs and the results couldn’t be more different! – Bailey and Emma of Antiquaria

It’s always good to have some monogrammed stationery on hand for when a last minute occasion arrises. Make a bunch at one time and store them in a pretty box with pens and postage. Monogrammed stationery also makes for a really great handmade gift!

Option One: Blue and white is such a classic color combination. We put a painterly spin on it with this gorgeous watercolor card. Adding white embossing on top of the paint really elevates the design and makes the monogram pop off of the card, literally!

DIY Tutorial: How to Create Unique Personal Stationery with Rubber Stamps by Antiquaria for Oh So Beautiful Paper

Step One: On the front of the card, in the center, paint a loose oval with indigo colored watercolor paint. Add multiple layers so that parts of the circle are darker than others. After the circle is complete, splash a little extra paint around the circle for a splattered effect. To do this we simply flicked the tip of the brush with our fingertip over the card. Set aside to dry completely.

Step Two: Stamp your monogram in the center of the watercolor oval using a white ink pad. Quickly sprinkle embossing powder over the stamped image. Shift it around until the monogram is completely covered with powder. Tip the excess off onto a scrap piece of paper.

Step Three: Using a embossing heat tool, melt the powder. You can watch our video tutorial of the process here.

Option Two: Wreaths have been a popular design element in stationery for a while now. We just can’t get enough of them – especially when they’re hand painted in shades of green!

DIY Tutorial: How to Create Unique Personal Stationery with Rubber Stamps by Antiquaria for Oh So Beautiful Paper

Step One: After stamping your monogram in the center of the front of your card, paint a little vine circle around it, leaving the bottom open (as shown above). Don’t try to make the oval perfect, a meandering vine will be more natural once the leaves are painted around it!

DIY Tutorial: How to Create Unique Personal Stationery with Rubber Stamps by Antiquaria for Oh So Beautiful Paper

Step Two: Add your leaves to the oval. The technique is simple: just load your brush with watercolor paint, lay it down flat, and then pick it up, dragging up to the point as you lift it off. This will give you the shape of the leaf with very little effort! Practice first before starting on the final cards until you get it down. Varying the size and color of the leaves will help give a more natural look to the card. Paint the leaves starting at the bottom and finishing at the top. Where they meet, leave a little space and paint a small dot in the top center to finish it off.

DIY Tutorial: How to Create Unique Personal Stationery with Rubber Stamps by Antiquaria for Oh So Beautiful Paper

Step Three: We also added little leaf adornments to each corner, using the same technique to finish off the card design.

DIY Tutorial: How to Create Unique Personal Stationery with Rubber Stamps by Antiquaria for Oh So Beautiful Paper

Option Three: This stunning, black and white design is both modern and whimsical at the same time. Plus, you don’t even have to pull out the paint for this one!

DIY Tutorial: How to Create Unique Personal Stationery with Rubber Stamps by Antiquaria for Oh So Beautiful Paper

Step One: Stamp your monogram in the front center of the card in black ink. Set it aside to dry.

DIY Tutorial: How to Create Unique Personal Stationery with Rubber Stamps by Antiquaria for Oh So Beautiful Paper

Step Two: Find a circle on your template that is â…›” to ¼” larger than the design, and trace it using a black felt tipped pen.

DIY Tutorial: How to Create Unique Personal Stationery with Rubber Stamps by Antiquaria for Oh So Beautiful Paper

Step Three: With a brush pen, add little black polka dots around the circle – but make sure not to put any inside. We didn’t make the size or pattern of the dots even for this design, so it has a lovely organic irregularity… plus it’s easier to do!

DIY Tutorial: How to Create Unique Personal Stationery with Rubber Stamps by Antiquaria for Oh So Beautiful PaperP-Stationery-final2

Step Four: Add little bitty dots around your polka dots to fill in the white spaces of your design by touching only the very tip of the pen to the paper.

Wedding Stationery Inspiration: Tropical

It seems as though lots of folks are already off on summer vacations. Palm trees, pineapples, drink umbrellas and all! So I have all things tropical on the brain as I daydream about paradise… including wedding stationery! Anyone having a destination wedding somewhere perfect and playing up its tropical locale? These day-of paper goods inspired by those faraway colors and motifs we all know and love will certainly help! —Kelly

Paper Party 2014!

Each year, I have the immense privilege of hosting a party during the National Stationery Show – and today I’m so excited to share the photos from this year’s party! The stationery community is full of some of the most wonderful and talented people, many of whom I’m honored to consider friends, and it makes me indescribably happy to see all of them in the same (big) room together and having a great time. Such an incredible evening!

OSBP-Paper-Party-2014-Charlie-Juliet-Photography-28

This year’s party was again held at Hudson Terrace. My talented friend (and professional event planner) Janice from Bellwether Events helped me plan the party and kept the entire evening running smoothly. We chose a floral theme for this year’s party, with a color palette of black, white, pink, and gold paired with shades of peach, mint, and other pastels. We also partnered with an incredible team of sponsors to bring the party to life: Minted, Mohawk, Etsy Wholesale, Smock, Hester & Cook Design Group, Postable, Mailchimp, Snow & Graham, Legion Paper, Gilah Press & Design, Ladies of Letterpress, Zazzle, and Balloon Time Helium Tanks.

I wanted to find a way of thanking our amazing team of sponsors – without which this party would seriously not have been possible – and Minted was kind enough to print this large scale (8′ long!) welcome banner using a modified horizontal version of their Botanical Wreath photo backdrop. Alexis Mattox created a beautiful gold and cream botanical paper garland to string around the banner. So pretty!

The first 125 party guests received tote gift bags provided by Zazzle and designed by Mr. Boddington’s Studio – and packed to the brim with AMAZING stationery goodies. All 125 gift bags disappeared in less than 15 minutes! But you guys are in luck: I set aside five tote bags just to give away to a few lucky readers. Check back tomorrow for the giveaway!

It has become a bit of a tradition for us to have a large decoration spelling out “Paper Party” near the venue entrance. Ashley from Fine Day Press created the letters and giant paper flowers using Mohawk Britehue, Opaque, and Strathmore paper and Smock gift wrap, with assembly help from Barbara of Double Bravo. The botanical garland was made by Alexis Mattox Design. I absolutely LOVE the way it turned out!

I like to incorporate an interactive element into the party each year. Hester & Cook Design Group provided this fantastic chalkboard paper table runner, which we used as a guest book! It was so fun to see what everyone wrote once the party was over!

Last year’s folded paper shadowbox decorations were a big hit, so I knew I wanted to do something creative again this year! To fit our floral inspiration, we scattered individual paper flowers from these peony and succulent wreath kits from Paper Source across foam core boards cut to the specific size of each shadowbox.

On the outdoor terrace, we set up a special lounge just for our friends at Etsy Wholesale! They commissioned a gorgeous custom sign and filled the lounge with some information about and goodies from Etsy Wholesale sellers. The lounge was full of retailers and sellers all night! I’m so excited to see what’s in store for this wonderful new wholesale platform.

We paired the balloons and honeycombs with pastel DIY tissue paper tassels that Mandy carefully transported all the way from Nashville to New York!

National Stationery Show 2014, Part 3

The 2014 National Stationery Show may have officially wrapped up yesterday (sniff!! miss you all already!), but my coverage from this year’s show is just getting started! And you guys, there were SO MANY amazing booths this year, I’m almost afraid to think of how many photos I took over the last three and a half days. So let’s get right back to it, with one of this year’s most hotly anticipated booths: Emily McDowell! I’m such a big fan of Emily’s compelling hand lettered greeting cards, prints, tea towels, tote bags, and temporary tattoos – and this year Emily added gift tags, sticker labels, and notepads to the collection!

After exhibiting with Crow and Canary a few times, Ashkahn made his official debut in a solo booth this year! I love the mix of foil and neon, not to mention irreverence and sentimentality, in his letterpress greeting cards.

Pineapples were everywhere at this year’s show (seriously), but that was perhaps most true at the debut booth from Hartland Brooklyn. Isn’t that wallpaper (made using custom gift wrap!) incredible? And so many fun greeting cards with gold foil, tropical illustrations, and yes, plenty of pineapples.

Minted‘s booth this year showcased their art prints, gold foil holiday cards, and additions to their letterpress wedding invitation and baby announcement collections. And how gorgeous is that folded paper backdrop?!?
