2012 Calendar Round-up, Part 1

Y’all, I can barely believe it, but it’s that time of year… calendar season!  Today is the first of what I’m sure will be many calendar round up posts (last year there were nine!), and for the first installment I’m focusing on 2012 editions from some of my favorites from 2011.  First up, the always lovely nature-inspired minimalist designs from one of my perennial favorites, Satsuma Press:

This year Rifle  Paper Co. is offering three different calendar formats – two monthly wall calendars in botanical or fruit themes, and a twelve month floral wall calendar:

I first glimpsed the Pistachio Press cross stitch calendar back at the National Stationery Show in May, and it’s still one of my favorites for 2012:

The Sycamore Street Press 2012 calendar was inspired by French pastries, featuring a twelve month wall calendar with a dozen illustrations, from macarons to éclairs – yum!

I always love the wood veneer calendars from Night Owl Paper Goods – this year they’re offering half a dozen adorable formats, from the critters desk calendar below to hanging wall calendars.

I love the modern illustrations and patterns on the 2012 calendars from SusyJack*.  Susy is also offering two formats this year – a hanging wall calendar and write-on wall calendar:

Linda & Harriett is offering two super limited edition 2012 calendars – a wall calendar inspired by watercolors and an adorable letterpress calendar (the bottom of each month detaches for use as a postcard!).

The Ilee calendar has been one of my favorites for the past three years – I can’t wait to receive my 2012 edition!

And last up for today, the Simplesong 2012 limited edition calendar features three months to a page, with a super fun color palette for each season.  So cute!

Inspired By: The Night Sky

I’ve been fascinated with astronomy ever since I was a little kid; my Dad and I had a telescope and would spend hours gazing into the night sky trying to see Saturn’s rings or Jupiter’s moons.  So today I thought I would round up a few of my favorite zodiac- and constellation-inspired paper details!

No. 1 Stargazer letterpress prints by Poshta Stationery and Design; No. 2 Zodiac cards by Printerette Press; No. 3 Constellation screen prints from Little Gray Owl Studio; No. 4 Constellation artwork by Nature’s Cubbyhole; No. 5 Print from The Wheatfield; No. 6 Constellation embroidery by Chloe Giordano

And finally, this screen printed constellation poster from designer Scott Benson is just about the coolest thing ever.  It even glows in the dark!

Studio Tour – Czar Press

I love getting a sneak peek into printing studios.  I’m constantly in awe of the heavy duty cast iron machines that produce such beautiful and delicate stationery.  I was absolutely thrilled when Michael from Czar Press sent over this fun tour of his letterpress printing studio in Orange County, California.  Let’s take a look!

From Michael: We’re a full service wholesale and commercial print shop.  We make our own film and photopolymer plates and offer letterpress printing, flat printing, die cutting, scoring, duplexing, edge painting, and some other good stuff.  Our shop currently consists of four letterpresses: Chandler, a 12 x 18 Chandler & Price; Ivan, a 10×15 hand feed Kluge; and Boris and Lenin, both 10×15 auto feed Kluges.  We also have a little nursery for my little one, Piper.  We welcome vistors!

And here’s the cozy play area that Michael created for his adorable daughter Piper!

Annie + Jeremy’s Illustrated Portrait Save the Dates

Printerette Press was one of my favorites at this year’s National Stationery Show, so I was thrilled when Catherine from Printerette Press sent over these sweet and whimsical save the dates that she created for a recent couple.  Catherine incorporated the most adorable illustration of the bride and groom – even the bride’s sweet freckles!

From Catherine:  Annie & Jeremy might be the most down-to-Earth, funny, and sweet couple we’ve ever worked with.  Annie is a clothing designer and Jeremy is a librarian here in Minneapolis.  Both of them being from St. Louis, they planned a (hot) summer wedding in their hometown.

We love incorporating sweet, simple portraits into wedding stationery and we were delighted when Annie and Jeremy were on board with our idea!  I think my favorite element of the whole piece is Annie’s freckles.  The save the dates were printed on cotton paper with hand-mixed inks and lovingly hand-fed one at a time on our 100-year-old press.

Thanks Catherine!

Charles + Jazmin’s Silhouette Letterpress Wedding Invitations

A few weeks ago, I came across these gorgeous silhouette wedding invitations created by Meg at Low Country Press – and immediately fell in love with the entire suite.  The design was inspired by the professions of the bride and groom (teacher and welder, respectively), with hand rendered illustrations of icons from their careers and silhouettes of the couple.  Meg was kind enough to share some additional images of this beautiful invitation suite courtesy of Elk Photo and Jade + Matthew Take Pictures, so let’s take a look!

From Meg: Jazmin and Charles both have a passion for what they do – she’s a teacher and he’s a welder – as well as for life, and ultimately each other.  They wanted to bring that to life through their stationery suite by including custom silhouettes as well as icons to represent what they do: a ruler, apple, and books for her teaching, and a welding mask, tool box, and spark for his welding.  The invitations were a true first impression for the wedding, which included a photobooth complete with chalkboard backdrop and welding equipment as props.

The gray and yellow color palette represented both the bride and groom – inspired by bright yellow school buses and industrial metal.  We incorporated the color palette not only through the ink colors, but the corresponding envelopes as well.  The envelopes also carried over the silhouettes from the invitation.

The invitation itself was printed on 220 lb Crane Lettra Bright White paper, giving the two color design beautiful letterpress impressions.  They saved money by printing the corresponding pieces, including the RSVP card and a map, digitally.  Overall, the suite reflected the happiness and love of the couple through what they do, and each other, shown through my love of paper goods.
