{happy weekend!}

What a strange week!  From some crazy thunderstorms in the Mid-Atlantic area last weekend to the middle-of-the-week holiday, this week felt like a whirlwind from start to finish.  I’m looking forward to a low key weekend and hoping to escape the DC heat as much as possible.  I’m heading out a bit early today, but in the meantime…

Karie + Ryan’s Gold Foil Rock n’ Roll Wedding Invitations

The ladies of Primele are known for their beautiful hand lettering, but these invitations prove that they also create some really amazing custom designs!  Patricia from Primele sent over these fabulous custom invitations that she created for a wedding at the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.  I love the way she incorporated gold foil text over an abstract painting for a modern-meets-glam design!

From Patricia:  I loved, loved this creating this invitation suite.  I knew I was interested when the bride mentioned she was getting married at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but I was completely sold when she sent over her selection for bridesmaids dresses.  In the end the bridesmaid’s painterly Andrew Marc dresses played a significant inspirational role in the design of Karie and Ryan’s invitation suite.

For the invitation, we went with an artful grunge look and dressed it up with gold foil text over the offset printed painting.

We created double-sided reply cards, and for an element of fun we played up the wording and added a coordinating spot of gold foil.  We also included a map for guests with icons of key destinations.

2012 Paper Party

The booth recaps from the National Stationery Show may be over, but I have one final NSS post to share with you!  Every year for the last few years, I’ve had the pleasure of co-hosting a little stationery meetup with Erika from Delphine one evening during the show.  This year, we invited the stationery and design industry’s finest to come hang out for a few hours outside of the Javits Center – and an awesome turnout of exhibitors, retailers, and fellow stationery enthusiasts showed up to get their paper party on!

This year’s meetup took place at a fun little venue just a few blocks north of the Javits Center called Little Town NYC on Restaurant Row â€“ we loved the rustic vibe and brick interiors!  Our fabulous and talented friends Janice from Bellwether Events and Cyd from The Sweetest Occasion helped us pull all of the party details together.  We were thrilled to work with some really amazing sponsors who made the party possible, including Crane & Co., Stationery HQ, Tradeshow Bootcamp, Ladies of Letterpress, and Mohawk/Felt + Wire.

The super cute paper party details were provided by For Your Party, and DC Rentals helped us out with some gorgeous linens!

Of course, a paper party wouldn’t be complete without a fabulous goodie bag!  This year’s goodie bag was pretty hefty and full of amazing paper from Crane & Co., Dingbat PressLinnea’s LightsFig. 2 Design StudioRussell + HazelFigs + Ginger, TattlyKelp DesignsKate & BirdieCartolinaPaper + CupCrow & CanaryCzar Press, Knock Knock, Legion Paper, and Anthology Magazine.

Oh, and I can’t forget the invitations themselves!  Erika created the gorgeous design and the invitations were printed in mint green and gold foil by Stationery HQ.  The wonderful Michele from Meant to Be Calligraphy provided her beautiful hand lettering (in her Edwards style) for the invitations that we mailed out a bit further in advance.

We had so much fun at this year’s meetup!

Once again, a huge thanks and much love to our amazing sponsors: Crane & Co., Stationery HQ, Mohawk/Felt + Wire, Tradeshow Bootcamp, and Ladies of Letterpress, not to mention Little Town NYC for having us – and a million thanks to Janice and Cyd for all their help.  I can’t wait for next year!

There was no way I could fit all of the photos from this year’s meetup into a single post, but you can find the full gallery from the party right here!

National Stationery Show 2012, Part 12

Aaaaand… with a dozen posts full of paper awesomeness, we’ve reached the final recap of exhibitor booths from this year’s National Stationery Show!  I’m ready for a super long nap as we head into the weekend, but first let’s take a look at some of the final stationery eye candy from the show!  First up, the Smock and Bella Figura booth.  I was super excited to check out the new gift wrap patterns and notebook collection, not to mention some of the new foil printed greeting card and wedding invitation designs!

Smock + Bella Figura

Every year, the Crane & Co. booth looks like a Fifth Avenue storefront – complete with gorgeous window displays inspired by Bergdorf Goodman and other classic department stores!  I always spend a few minutes gazing at the beautiful collection in each display…

I’m so happy to see Crane & Co. embracing its extensive history with Americana-inspired stationery collections – they’ve been around since 1801 and have printed stationery for several presidents and even foreign kings and queens!  At the same time, they’re incorporating modern design with bright new color options for the classic Crane & Co. hand bordered correspondence cards.  And is there anything more classic and elegant than white engraved text on red paper?  Beautiful!

Crane & Co.

I’m a big fan of the rustic vibe over at Old School Stationers.  I always love their colorful letterpress art prints, greeting cards, and calendars featuring their signature hand-drawn illustrations!

Nashville-based Erin from Arboreal also has somewhat of a rustic vibe going on, but with a stationery collection largely inspired by Erin’s travels to Italy.  The line includes gift wrap sheets, gift tags, and beautiful boxed note card sets.

The talented sisters of Spark Letterpress made a return to the Stationery Show with a huge booth full of gorgeous invitations, fun party bunting, and beautiful foil printed certificates and greeting cards.  I’m a longtime fan of the Spark wedding invitation collection, but I’m so happy to see them branching out with more Bar and Bat Mitzvah invitations and other party invitation designs!

L2 Design Collective never fails to make me smile with their colorful screen printed cards and journals.  I’m seriously loving all the new holiday and Halloween card designs, and the bagel and cream cheese card below still makes me laugh!

Envelopments recently collaborated with Kristy Rice of Momental Designs on an exclusive new wedding collection, called Trellis.  Kristy was on hand at the Envelopments booth to talk about the new designs in person.  Kristy creates the most amazing one of a kind hand painted wedding invitations  – and the Trellis collection captures her unique style in such a beautiful way.

National Stationery Show 2012, Part 11

I’ve already featured more than 70 booths from the 2012 National Stationery Show, but today our coverage starts to wind down with a few final booths from this year’s show.  I look forward to the show all year long, so it’s hard to believe that the show has already been over for a week!  First up today, the fabulous screen printed cards from Gold Teeth Brooklyn.  I love all the rich color and subtle texture from screen printing, particularly when mixed with such playful designs!

Gold Teeth Brooklyn

I was so happy to stumble upon Bison Bookbinding & Letterpress at last year’s show – they have the sweetest collection of hand lettered note cards in collaboration with lettering artist Karolin Schnoor.  This year I loved the letterpress recipe cards and gold foil printed notebooks and card designs.

I’m a huge fan of Katharine Watson‘s Indian-inspired block printed designs.  This year, Katharine’s booth was packed full of gorgeous paper and textiles, from tea towels to greeting cards to coasters.

I love the illustrated folk art stationery from the gentlemen of Urubbu.  This year’s collection included some fun farm animal designs (I particularly enjoyed the chickens!) and some moody ravens.  They also added a bunch of wonderful wood sculptures sourced from artisans in Brazil!

We saw a sneak peek of the new notebooks from Kate & Birdie before the show, but I couldn’t wait to see the rest of the collection.  They definitely didn’t disappoint, with a booth full of fun greeting cards and lovely gift wrap!

Kate & Birdie

I have a special place in my heart for anything travel-inspired, including the airmail-inspired letterpress stationery from Double Bravo.  I particularly love the milestone collection – such a beautiful way to record sweet memories!

Double Bravo

Katie from Kelp Designs is one of the nicest people I know, and her bright and colorful offset printed collection is a true reflection of her sweet personality!

Katie is the founder of Tradeshow Bootcamp – a program to help prepare stationery exhibitors for big trade shows like the Stationery Show and Gift Fair!

I’ll have one final post from the National Stationery Show tomorrow!
