NYIGF August 2011, Part 3

I’m back with more from NYIGF!  This time we’re focusing on all of the awesome stationery exhibitors at the Gift Fair, starting with some pretty notebooks, holiday cards, calendars, and gift wrap from Snow & Graham.

I’m loving the Valentine’s Day cards and gift wrap from Smudge Ink:

NYIGF August 2011, Part 2

As promised, I’m back with a few more favorites from the summer Gift Fair!  First up today, the unbelievably gorgeous porcelain ceramics from Portland-based Pigeon Toe.  In addition to vases, bowls, and votives, they recently released a collection of porcelain string lights!  I’m also rather partial to the bird house and wind chimes.

Pigeon Toe

The next booth might take the prize as my favorite new discovery: UK-based Lazy Oaf.  I love the adorable line of bright greeting cards, illustrated notebooks, patterned tape, and jewelry.  And the booth design is just as fun – the design was created using black electrical tape!

Lazy Oaf

Next up, Russell + Hazel.  They have lots of calendars and office stationery, but I zeroed in on a new collection of boxed notecards.  Each one has a different message, from birthday cards to change of address cards.  So pretty!

These are oversize gift cards.  They’re huge!  They’re around 6 x 8″ and come with a gift card enclosure envelope affixed on the back of the card.  I love the gold borders!

It was so nice to see Viola from Chewing the Cud at NYIGF – I love her collection of pretty fabric gift wrap and tote bags, and of course her beautiful stationery and stamp kits.  Viola just introduced some amazing limited edition DIY kits in vintage cigar boxes.  Fun!

Chewing the Cud

I stumbled upon these gorgeous patterned textiles from Pehr.  Each design is hand-printed in India, including napkins, table runners, placemats, and pillows.  Of course I love the stripes and chevron pattern, but I’m also really loving the more organic and floral designs.  So pretty!

Pehr

The collections from Bailey Doesn’t Bark combine three of my favorite things – ceramics, stationery, and beautiful textiles.  I love the four seasons tea towels and mugs below, not to mention the postcard mugs!

The Pistachio Press booth was full of fantastic stationery, from birthday cards to calendars to a new notebook collaboration with designer Christen Maxwell.  They also snuck in the adorable new art print below that I absolutely love.

I’m really loving the canvas tote bags, wall art, and apparel from San Francisco-based Fluffy Co.  They also make adorable baby onesies!

NYIGF August 2011, Part 1

As promised, today I’m kicking off my coverage of the Summer 2011 New York International Gift Fair.  If you follow me on twitter or instagram you’ve already seen a few sneak peeks, but there’s tons more that I’m excited to share.  Like the National Stationery Show, the Gift Fair is a wholesale trade show, but this show takes place twice a year and covers way more than paper.  There are sections just for global importers, handmade products, home and bath, baby and kid products, and lots, lots more.  It’s huge!  I only feature a small part of the show here – and today we’re starting with a few of my favorite exhibits in the Handmade section!

First up, the lovely Shanna Murray, making her trade show debut at this show.  I’m a longtime fan of Shanna’s wall decals and was thrilled to see her beautiful booth at NYIGF.  Shanna recently introduced some gorgeous new designs, as well as a brand-new collection of decals specifically for windows!

My friend Laurel from Laurel Denise is a trade show veteran and I always look forward to seeing her creative booth displays.  This year Laurel went with a cool industrial vibe – using old manuals and charts! – as a cool contrast against her delicate jewelry and beautiful glass vases.  I’m loving the colorful new silk edition of her simply stated collection below.

The 2012 edition of Laurel’s awesome yearly planner (available for pre-order here).

I also checked out the Walk Up Press booth a couple aisles over.  The fill-in-the-blank letterpress cards and day of the week lunchbags are so much fun, and I’m loving the new letterpress gift wrap sheets!

It was such a pleasant surprise to find Jessica Rust Designs at this year’s show.  I love Jessica’s personalized mugs and heirloom plates (they make a perfect wedding gift).  Jessica recently added some new etched glasses made from recycled wine bottles to her collection, along with some farm animal designs and cute personalized pet food bowls.

Speaking of dinnerware, it was wonderful to see Asya from Gleena at this year’s show.  I’ve been a fan of her beautiful numbered porcelain bowls for a couple of years now, and I love the newer botanical designs and color additions to her collection.

Also in the Handmade section, Brooklyn-based Haptic Lab – they make the most gorgeous embroidered fabric map quilts.  Each of the large quilts is literally hand sewn (no machines)!  Such a lovely heirloom.  They also have a fun DIY option; city maps are screen printed onto smaller quilts and come with little icons and patches that can be sewn onto the quilt to indicate homes, locations of first dates, etc.  They also have a DC version, which made me very happy.

Haptic Lab

After checking out the exhibitors in the Handmade section, I wandered off to Baby & Child where I had a great time catching up with the folks from Wee Gallery.  We played with their rubber stamp sets and checked out the new (moveable) wall decals and art cards, and my husband and I totally want to get the temporary tattoos for our niece and nephew!

I’ll be back with more from NYIGF tomorrow!  You can check out past year coverage from NYIGF right here.

Rachel + Stefan’s Modern Pink Wedding Invitations

One of my favorite jewelry designers, Rachel from Elephantine, is getting married in a few weeks – and she’s here to share her wedding invitations!  I first fell in love with her sweet and simple illustrated save the dates back in December, and I love the way she incorporated her signature modern style into a sophisticated and meaningful invitation suite.  Rachel and Stefan are planning a small wedding and were able to invest some time into creating a personalized invitation for each recipient.  So pretty!

Modern-Pink-Wedding-Invitations

From Rachel:  I’ve always had my heart set on a wedding invitation with multiple parts to it. (I’ve also always had this fascination with things that contain several smaller things, like matryoshka dolls.)  Our invitation is made up of three flat cards, printed on both sides: one is the actual invitation, another has important details and a detachable RSVP, and a third has a map & directions.  Then there’s the RSVP envelope and the mini calendar reminder for guests to put in their day planner or on their fridge.

Modern-Pink-Wedding-Invitations-Detail

I wanted the invitations to feel personal to the recipients. The whole “suite” is held together by a band that I reverse-printed each invitee’s name on.  When the band comes off, it reveals the “Love, R & S” on the first card.  On the back of the first card is the actual invitation.  The fonts are Whitney and Cyclone.

The last card has the nitty-gritty details and the RSVP, which can be detached.  I lightly perforated the “detach here” line above the RSVP with a tracing wheel.  On the back, there’s a quote from A.A. Milne, aka Winnie-the-Pooh’s author (“Some people care too much. I think it’s called love.”) and then there are a few lines for guests to write a note to us, if they’d like to.

I printed the mailing & return addresses directly onto the envelopes, added a little bit of gold washi tape, and used my favorite stamps.  Et voilà!

National Stationery Show 2011 – Part 12

Whew!  With more than 90 booths covered from this year’s National Stationery Show, this is the final post for this year’s show!  I’m ready for a nice long nap at this point, but first let’s get to the good stuff.  First up, Portland-based Oblation Papers and Press, with an industrial-meets-vintage booth design and a collection of classic and clean letterpress cards, invitations, calendars and notebooks.

Letterpress advent calendars – such a cute idea!

My husband would looove these architecture cards…

Oblation Papers & Press

The collection over at Someday Designs is seriously amazing – not only are the letterpress cards seriously adorable, but they’re also hand watercolor painted one by one.  The result is a delicate card that is both completely unique and entirely hand crafted.

Someday Designs

Lots and lots of super colorful stationery over at the Kelp Designs booth – pretty and eco-friendly at the same time!  In my opinion, Katie from Kelp Designs is pretty much superwoman; not only did she put together a fabulous booth for the Stationery Show, but she also organized Tradeshow Bootcamp (to help new trade show exhibitors) and exhibited at 8 months pregnant.  Ah-mazing.

Love those cardboard clipboards!

Julie from Up Up Creative made her trade show debut this year, with a super colorful (hello orange!) booth and modern collection of note cards, calendars, gift wrap, and artwork.

Love this color wheel alphabet print!

Like the Ladies of Letterpress booth, the Let {Her} Press booth features multiple exhibitors – this year it was Paper Stories, Paper Parasol Press, Robin Beth, and Lucky Bee Press.

So much color and pretty paper at Envelopments – and a brand new lookbook showcasing some of Envelopments’ custom wedding, baby, and social stationery designs.

Envelopments

At Crane & Co. this year, I got to browse through the new wedding album, check out some of the new social stationery designs, and look at tons of new holiday cards and designs.

Loving the crisp and modern combination of red and white in these two sets of engraved social stationery…

And of course, lots and lots of holiday cards…

Crane & Co. usually offers a fun demonstration in its booth – this year it was the custom monogram process.  I chose a classic swirly monogram for myself…

For a little something special, this year the Crane & Co. booth had these stunning window displays – just like fancy New York department stores!  So stunning…

Crane & Co.

That’s it folks!  I hope you enjoyed the recaps from this year’s National Stationery Show!  If you missed any of the last eleven posts or want to check out the booths from last year, you can see all of my stationery show coverage from the last three years right here!
