Friday Happy Hour: The Aviation (Revisited)

We’re still getting settled into the new house and haven’t had much time to experiment with new cocktail recipes, so this week we thought we’d revisit one of our favorite classic cocktails – The Aviation! Made with a liqueur called Creme de Violette, this cocktail is the most lovely shade of pale blueish-purple and has a delicate and sweet floral taste. Even people who normally don’t like gin will love this drink!

William’s Hospital Bracelet Baby Announcements

I couldn’t resist rounding out the week with one more baby announcement! I have all of our hospital bracelets saved in Sophie’s baby book at home, so these hospital bracelet baby announcements from Sarah Jane Winter seem like such a great idea! The bracelet opens to reveal a photo of baby William and his loving parents. So sweet.

From Sarah Jane: William’s father is a pediatrician that specializes in Neonatology (newborns) so I played with the idea of the new baby coming home from the hospital. A baby hospital bracelet was mimicked with the ‘vitals’ including name, date of birth, length, and weight. This was wrapped around the card and fastened with a button brad. A blue vellum sleeve wrapped the card.

The card was printed front and back with the photos I took of the family and a simple greeting.

Audrey + Erik’s Gingham Letterpress Overprint Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone! Today we move into our new house, and I’m both incredibly excited and terribly anxious to put this whole move behind us (fingers crossed that we’ll have internet at our new place later tonight)! While we pack the final boxes and move our furniture, I have a couple of really gorgeous wedding invitations to share with you. First up, some gorgeous invitations from Sarah of Studio SloMo that incorporate one of my favorite letterpress techniques – overprinting – to create a colorful gingham pattern for a casual Fourth of July wedding. Love!

From Sarah: We designed these invitations for Audrey and Erik’s casual July 4th wedding at a local park in Carmel Valley, California. The only guidelines Audrey gave us were to use bright colors and possibly incorporate gingham. Audrey and Erik were planning a BBQ in the park after the ceremony and using all gingham tablecloths.

Audrey also made strawberry jam with gingham jar tops for wedding favors. We created the thank you tags to tie around the top of the jam jar lids.  In keeping with the casual theme, they opted for a small folded RSVP tag tied to the invite directing guests to email their reply + check out their wedding website. Our favorite part of this invitation suite ended up being the little heart inspired by the gingham pattern.

{happy weekend!}

So I have big news: we finally bought a house! You may remember that we’ve been hunting since early December, and after a few unsuccessful offers we’re finally under contract on a cute little rowhouse – we move in just a couple of weeks! We’re just a wee bit stressed out trying to make arrangements for the move and some minor house repairs that need to be done after we close, and of course pack up our entire apartment (ugh), so if things seem kind of erratic for the next few weeks I hope you’ll bear with me! But even with the stress of a move, I can’t wait to start making our new house our own, starting with a fresh coat of paint in every single room. Yay! But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

We have a fun cocktail coming up for you this afternoon, so check back a bit later for the recipe!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday!  xoxo

Lucy + John’s Romantic Floral Wedding Invitations

After Mother Nature dumped a few buckets of rain and snow down on us yesterday, I’m definitely craving signs of spring – and that means anything floral! These wedding invitations by Kate of Blue & Theory were inspired by one of spring’s most delicate flowers: Lily of the Valley. Kate created a floral border for the invitations and the rsvp card, with a muted Earth tone color palette for the entire invitation suite.

From Kate: These invitations were inspired by a feeling of vintage romance combined with delicate Lily of the Valley. During the creation of this set, I found it very important to strike a strong balance between whimsical and traditional. I wanted to create floral illustrations that that represented the romantic and intimate feel of the upcoming wedding, while anchoring the invite with traditional and structured type.

For the color palette, Lucy and John wanted to stay on theme with Lily of the Valley with muted earth tones. It was important for the illustrations to be very pronounced without the use of bright, bold colors. For the envelopes, rather than have the addresses printed, I had a custom stamp made of the floral illustrations, as well as the return address, to enhance the personal feel and look of the invitations. Inspired by old love letters and packages sent in a time before email, I chose kraft colored envelopes as well as baker string to enhance that old-fashioned-love-letter feel.
