Graham’s Modern Letterpress Baby Announcements

Brooke from Curious & Co. and her husband Nick welcomed a baby boy, Graham, back in September (just a day after Sophie was born!). I’m absolutely in love with the modern announcements that she designed to welcome Graham into the world. Every detail is just perfect, from the vibrant red and aqua color palette to the fun elements inspired by vintage packaging. Too cute!

From Brooke: When I’m asked how to spell baby Graham’s name, I always explain, “Graham — like graham cracker.” When it came time to design Graham’s birth announcement, I took inspiration from colorful vintage cookie and cracker packaging in order to put a fun twist on his name. What resulted was this red and aqua letterpress piece (with overprinting to create a third color), which serves as a cheery and playful welcome to the newest member of the Curious & Co. extended family.

Best of 2012: Silhouette + Bow Tie Birthday Party Invitations

I’m already looking forward to Sophie’s first birthday party, if for no other reason than the opportunity for seriously cute party invitations! When designer Emily Ley celebrated her son’s first birthday she turned to her friend Amber from Pitbulls and Posies to create these incredibly adorable silhouette and bow tie invitations. Isn’t that just the best combination for a little boy?

Sophie at 3 Months

Sophie reached the 3-month mark last week, and while I haven’t been very good about taking a monthly photo of her in the same place I wanted to capture her in this adorable and smiley stage before she gets even bigger. So before we all go running off for the holidays, I thought I’d share a few photos!

Before Sophie was born, I remember thinking that the three month mark was going to be this huge milestone. She’ll be doing things! Less crying! Sleeping through the night! Ah, the optimism of pre-babydom… I can’t help but laugh at my earlier emphasis on an arbitrary timeframe. Sophie is so different now compared to her first few weeks as a newborn, but you definitely trade old challenges for new ones with each stage. Right now, we can’t get enough of her gummy smiles and tiny laughs. We’re still working on the whole sleep-through-the-night thing, but my mom reminded me that longer sleep often comes as a baby gains more weight. Sophie is a small baby (only 10.5 lbs at 3 months), so it could take a while and we’re trying to be patient.

Sophie has had such a sweet and happy temperament ever since she was born – we feel so lucky! She absolutely lights up whenever she sees us, and it almost makes my heart burst when I hear her making happy cooing noises at her papa while I’m doing something in another room. She also makes the most hilarious faces and noises that crack us up to no end – even though she has no idea that she’s been so funny! I’m looking forward to all the milestones to come, but I’m also really loving this stage in her life.

This weekend we’ll be making the loooooong drive up to Syracuse to spend the holidays with my husband’s family, and while I’m excited for Sophie to (hopefully) experience snow for the first time, I’m a bit nervous about how she’ll handle the several-hours-long car ride. Anyone have any tips for making long drives with young babies? I’d love any advice or tips that you experienced mamas could share!

“You’ve Got Mail” School-Inspired Paper Goods

I’m a firm believer that you can find inspiration in just about anything, even a romantic comedy from the 1990s. Ha! Adrienne from The Paper Suite loves the movie “You’ve Got Mail” and was inspired to create these school chalkboard paper goodies. Adrienne used them for a bridal shower photo shoot, but I could easily see these working for a baby shower or birthday party!

From Adrienne: One of my favorite movies is “You’ve Got Mail.” I don’t know exactly why I love it so much, but it gives me the warm fuzzies every time I watch it. My very first email account was an AOL account way back in the late ’90s and there is no doubt that those three words “You’ve Got Mail” always made me giddy with delight!

The movie “You’ve Got Mail” begins in the fall in New York City.  One of the best lines in the movie is when Tom Hanks writes to Meg Ryan and tells her that if he knew where she were, he would send her a bouquet of freshly sharpened pencils. While not quite as exquisite as a bouquet of fresh flowers there is something sweet and whimsical about the whole idea.  So sweet and whimsical that it inspired me put together this school room influenced styled shoot complete with freshly sharpened bouquets of pencils!

{happy weekend!}

Happy Friday everyone! So, we managed to get our tree and string lights… and haven’t made an ounce of progress since. I actually kind of love the look of our minimalist tree. This week Sophie turned 3 months old and my husband and I celebrated our 7-year dating anniversary by hiring a babysitter and going out to dinner alone for the first time in three months. We went to a new semi-secret restaurant in our neighborhood – very good food, but definitely not baby appropriate. Sophie handled the whole thing so well, I’m already looking forward to our next date night out! But in the meantime…
