Happy Weekend!

Happy Friday everyone! The snow has finally disappeared in our neighborhood – we even had a couple of really warm days that have me super excited for spring! I know we’ve got many weeks before we get there, but I just keep imagining cherry blossoms, peonies, and all the amazingness that comes with spring in DC. But in the meantime…

…a few links for your weekend!

This week on Oh So Beautiful Paper:

That’s it for me this week! We’re back to cocktail recipes starting this month – so check back a bit later for this week’s recipe! Although I’m hoping we’ll be able to do mocktails every now and then throughout the year. I really loved our Apricot Tiki Mocktail! I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday! xoxo

Modern Hand Lettered Wedding Invitations

I always crave color in the middle of winter, and these modern hand lettered wedding invitations from Meghan of And Here We Are definitely have color in spades! While the main invitation features playful hand lettering in crisp black and white, the enclosures feature an explosion of color with ink and watercolor floral illustrations of peonies and poppies. And yay for bright yellow envelopes! So perfect for a spring wedding!

From Meghan: When Brittney and Scott approached me for their Memphis wedding invitations, the direction was simple: classic and clean, black and white, with pops of color. The bridal bouquet also became a point of inspiration.

The letterpress printed invitation and RSVP cards feature playful hand lettered script offset against clean and modern typography, printed in black onto double-thick bright white Savoy paper. We then digitally (flat) printed a separate reception card and a tri-fold map. Digital printing allows for more playful color and illustration, so we introduced an all-over ink and watercolor illustrated floral pattern of peonies and poppies to add color and vibrancy to the overall package.

Our custom map included several points of interest for Memphis — from art and culture, to the best BBQ and beer joints. We were able to add more pops of color through our envelope choices: the RSVPs came with magenta envelopes and the full wedding invitation suite was mailed in bright yellow envelopes. Mailing addresses were beautifully calligraphed by Mallory of Hush Lettering.

Montana Nature-Inspired Calligraphy Wedding Invitations

We’ve seen beautiful tropical-inspired wedding invitations and black tie garden party wedding invitations from Anna of Cast Calligraphy – and today she’s here to share some gorgeous Montana nature-inspired calligraphy wedding invitations! Anna kept a neutral color palette of gray and white paired with a soft powder green to accommodate the temperamental June weather in Montana. The design includes classic serif text paired with Anna’s modern calligraphy, a custom map of the Seeley Lake area, and vintage cactus stamps paired with a more recent (but still vintage-inspired) black and white rose stamp!

From Anna: Katie and Sam got married in June in Seeley Lake, Montana – one of the most beautiful places in the state, in my opinion! They wanted the wedding to simply reflect the beauty of the area, and were deferring to nature to make the biggest impression. The weather in Montana in June can be temperamental, so keeping the design neutral was important. Luckily it was a perfectly beautiful day!

The invitations were digitally printed on a thick eggshell paper in a charcoal grey ink and soft powder green. We had a lot of fun finalizing the custom map, which highlighted the venue, lodging sites, trails and recreation areas, and local towns. On the back side were the details outlining the weekend events and directions. It’s quite a distance from the nearest airport, but guests surely soaked in the beautiful views along the way.

Rubber stamps were used to print the return addresses and vintage stamps were mixed with the beautiful black and white rose stamps (which were very popular this year!). A perfectly natural wedding invitation for a perfect Montana ceremony. Congrats Katie and Sam!

The World of Illustration

Today I’m thrilled to introduce a brand new column on Oh So Beautiful Paper: The World of Illustration! I’m completely fascinated by and enamored with illustration – and there are so many amazingly talented illustrators that I’ve been hoping to feature in a more meaningful way here on Oh So Beautiful Paper. And we’re finally making it happen! I’ve enlisted Julie (who already authors our fantastic calligraphy column) to profile the work of a different talented illustrator each month. Here’s a little sneak peek of what you can expect to see in the coming months! – Nole

The world of paper leaves many possibilities for art and beauty. We see so many shining examples here on Oh So Beautiful Paper with the stationery and paper goods we showcase. This is why I’m so pleased to be sharing a new column with our readers that puts the spotlight on the amazing world of illustration! We’re going to dip our toe in today as I share a few inspirations of late; hopefully this will get you all as excited as I am for this new feature. – Julie

The Art of Opposites Watercolor Wedding Invitations

These beautiful watercolor wedding invitations from Caroline at Lovely Paper Things kind of defy genre descriptions, which seems appropriate for invitations reflecting the love of two opposite personalities! The invitations combine custom calligraphy with hand painted floral elements and abstract watercolor patterns. And I love that the invitation features a favorite poem printed on the reverse side!

From Caroline: Some couples just have such an incredible spark that you can feel it from miles away. And oh my goodness, Kyle and Dustin are one of those amazing, wonderful, and kind couples who are truly meant to be together. During one of our initial conversations Kyle mentioned that she & Dustin loved both art & unusual juxtapositions in the world around them. While brainstorming concepts for their suite, we fell in love with the concept of The Art of Opposites, which became the heart & soul of the design.

Kyle, a city girl from Dallas & Dustin, a country boy from Montana came from two very different worlds. But like contrasts in art and nature, sometimes opposites create the most breathtaking combinations and complements. Their stunning suite incorporates custom calligraphy, hand painted floral designs, and unique abstract watercolor paintings in the most lush antique plum inspired color palette.

The double-sided invitation includes a custom art print & a quote we found that perfectly ties everything together:

“We are sun & moon, dear friend; we are sea & land.

It is not our purpose to become each other;

it is to recognize each other.

To learn to see the other & honor him for what he is:

Each the other’s opposite & complement”

-Hermann Hesse
