2012 Calendar Round Up, Part 9

I’m working on a few more holiday card round ups for tomorrow, but first we have a few more 2012 calendars to get through!  Today’s round up features one of my favorite artists, a fun neon calendar, two beautiful constellation calendars (I think I might need to get both for myself), and lots of beautiful illustration and letterpress work.  Let’s get started!

I love the sentiment of this hand lettered calendar from Alexander Sprugle

Hellloooo cute calendar from Mr. Boddington’s Studio!

I love anything from Rob Ryan, including these annual desktop calendars.  This one is currently sold out, but I’m hoping they’ll add more soon!

This illustrated letterpress desk calendar from Studio on Fire has lots and lots of neon – so fun!

Delicate line illustrations in this monthly letterpress calendar from Lark Press

For those of you who love astronomy as much as I do, you’re in luck this year with two constellation calendars!  The calendar from Prismatic (left) features the astrology constellations for each month, and Little Bright Studio (right) features an illustration of the northern hemisphere night sky.

This illustrated monster monthly calendar from 55 Hi’s is so ridiculously cute!

Buy local calendar and tea towel calendar from Claudia Pearson

An eco-friendly desktop calendar from Cat Seto

A lovely woodblock calendar with bird illustrations from Bowerbox Press

Botanical illustrated calendars from Miles of Light

Pyramid Atlantic is a book arts center here in Washington, DC – and this year they created a community letterpress calendar!

A letterpress monthly tear-away calendar from May Day Studio (left); and a fun calendar for meat lovers by Drywell (right)

Spirograph patterns on this letterpress monthly calendar from Paper Boat Studios

Keep your calendar close by with this letterpress coaster calendar from Meadowlark Creative

Elias + Nancy’s Watercolor Letterpress Wedding Invitations by Oh Happy Day

I credit Jordan Ferney for my obsession with watercolor and letterpress.  If you’re not already familiar with Jordan, she’s the writer of one of my very favorite blogs, Oh Happy Day (she always has the most creative ideas!) and a fabulously talented letterpress printer.  Jordan started experimenting with watercolor and letterpress last year, beginning with these business cards and her family holiday cards, and I’ve been hooked ever since.  Jordan sent over these amazing wedding invitations that she created for a destination wedding in Greece earlier this year.  The complete suite includes a bilingual invitation, accordion booklet with travel and accommodation information, along with ceremony programs and menus for the reception – and each element was watercolored by hand!

From Jordan:  The invitations were watercolored individually by hand before being letterpress printed in a very light grey ink.  The English and the invitation and the Greek invitation were then duplexed together with one language on the front and another on the back.

The accommodations and travel information were listed in an accordion booklet.  The booklet cover was letterpress printed then duplexed with a letterpress striped paper.  The inside was watercolored by hand, scored, and then it was all sewn together with metallic silver thread.

The complete invitation suite was tied together in silver thread.  The outer envelopes were also letterpress printed and watercolored, and addresses were calligraphed by Emilie Friday before being mailed to guests.   The menus and wedding program were also hand watercolored and printed with a dark grey ink.

Thanks Jordan!  For more from Elias and Nancy’s wedding in Greece, check out their feature on Martha Stewart Weddings right here!

Lauren + Joe’s Red and White Carnival Wedding Invitations

Lauren and Joe’s wedding invitations are so bright and cheerful, they make me happy just looking at them!  You might remember Lauren as the designer of Emily and Matt’s awesome German beer wedding invitations, and today she’s back to share the invitations from her own wedding!  Lauren incorporated big bold pops of red along with fun stripes and patterns into her booklet style wedding invitations, complementing the vintage carnival wedding theme.  So fun!

From Lauren: Our wedding had a vintage carnival theme, so we wanted the invitations not only to reflect that but also to really create some excitement about our big day.  We came up with the idea to do booklets that had the feel of old carnival or circus programs, complete with an “Admit One” ticket as the RSVP.

The booklet format was great because it allowed us to include a lot of information (since we were requiring guests to ride buses to the venue, etc.) and to carry out the sensationalist tone we were going for.  The booklets were offset printed on Ecru White Cotton Lettra paper.  Interior pages and other elements were printed digitally on Mohawk Loop Antique Vellum in Milkweed.

To make them even more fun and interactive, guests received the invitations in a fun, moss-filled box.  The boxes took many hours and required quite the assembly line, but we’d say it was well worth it in the end!

Thanks again Lauren!

Jillian + Tim’s Eclectic Vintage Wedding Invitations

Happy Monday everyone!  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  The first day back from a long holiday weekend can be a bit rough, but I’m hoping to help you ease back into the week with a couple of gorgeous wedding invitation suites.  First up today, these lovely vintage-inspired invitations from Allie Ruth Design.  While the main invitation is a classic and reserved black and white design, Allie incorporated color and fun materials with the envelopes, liners, and belly band, all complete with beautiful vintage postage stamps.

From Allie:  I love that the colors in this invitation suite look like they could have been pulled straight out of the ’40s.  The mustard yellow envelopes were the starting point for the entire design, around which we built a color palette of turquoise, kraft, cream, and light green.

My absolute favorite part is the envelope liners.  They are made from authentic 1930s wallpaper, that was printed using a technique called “surface painting” that gives the paper a hand-painted look.  I am absolutely in love with this paper and will certainly look forward to using vintage wallpaper in more of my custom designs.  The belly bands are kraft with vintage lace sewn on.

So pretty!  Thanks Allie!
